Great review. I have purchased AS for FSX, P3D, XPL.. but knowing the limitations that MS (via metoblue licence blah blah..) But I actually hesitate on this given the other products that have tried within these same limitiations (yep, I even bought XE for MSFS) I knew it could be potentially better given Damians 'track record' of going above and beyond on the same product for the other platforms, but I can wait. Your review picks out exactly what I was hoping it would do.. layers and wind / turb depiction so I am happy to have read your views on it. Not sure I need to wait now, lol.

Crikey, that escalated quickly. Was alluding earlier to the limitations imposed on 3rd party devs, especially for weather add-on devs. ASFS is working well within the limitations and offers a good alternative to the inbuilt weather system. As usual many people jumping up and down without reading the short but detailed description of what ASFS does. What a thing to be a flightsim dev, Damian is doing a sterling job. I'd be mad as a hatter seeing how people who havn't bothered to 'read the ahem manual' are streaming their 'hot take' to the world.

Active Sky coming to MSFS
Freq_flyer44 replied to carlanthony24's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Great news, this dev has been the cornerstone for the FS cloud/weather addon since FSX days and could be a game changer .. but .... ( Trigger warning ahead) Basically 90% of MSFS falls short, in every area IMHO (yes every area.. I did warn of the triggering!) And we have 3rd part devs to thank for rescuing it. The Xbox has been a blessing and a curse I know. It gave the huge playerbase and so huge $$$$ inflows, so thus Devs can make good $$ and worth their great efforts to make the needed addons. We are basically coming full circle like FSX / P3D legacy again, where the 'base sim' is a best-effort and we need to load up 10 addons to make it any good. I really hope Damien Clark can work wonders with the live weather cloud depiction in MSFS. Knowing how restricted to 3rd party the access to the weather side of it is (thanks Meteoblue) I am kinda skeptical, but if anyone can make the best of it, Damien can. -

Latest update from PMDG....
Freq_flyer44 replied to jrw4's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
I think it will likely be the -200 first, to cash-in from the army of content-creators wanting to cash-in on that sweet, sweet Omega-hype (and a few normal folk who watch saic CCs and gotta get it too, I guess) and then a couple of weeks later, the -300. -
New water masks next week?
Freq_flyer44 replied to Fielder's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
They have a good reputation for doing this kind of thing. Other things that have gone the way of the dodo - snow, lightning (from the worldmap too), accurate icing, logbook entries, rainbows, autogen (sometimes), photogrammetry, trees/grass moving in the wind, taxiway signs >5m away, accurate simulation, DX12 ever being 'finished' And the update is 11GB for these small islands? If watermarks are included you could be looking at a 50GB'er? Capt Cynical sounding off ! -
Agree .. But there hasn't been much additional models to the CSL AI model library in the last year (A320 Neo, 737 Max...) Am grateful for what is available though, it's just enough to populate most airports with a nice traffic level.

Potential improvements for sky colors

I prefer the ARPC colors too but everyone sees colors, even spell colours, differently - as proven right here is this very thread! -
TFDi Design granted access to the MD-11...
Freq_flyer44 replied to Nuno Pinto's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Why presume 737NG Driver that you didn't even watch? It was as likley the clickbait, punchable-faced swiss guy using a pic of the MD11 inverted crashing into the ground, arrow pointing at the tail-engine, with the title 'The New MD-11 For MSFS Isn't Perfect LOL' ?? -

MSFS at Gamescom @ 11:11AM Eastern
Freq_flyer44 replied to Tuskin38's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
The short time given to MSFS at a gaming event should be a positive by the simming community. Jorg and Seb were at the >> Flightsim Expo << and gave us all the news we needed to see us through '2024 Trailergate' !! -
