June 13, 200916 yr Moderator I have been trying to decide if I should get AES since it is now available for FSX. I never had it when I had FS9, but I know a lot of people love it. A few questions however for those that do have it installed in FSX.1. Is there any performance hit?2. How does it interact with complex addon a/c like the LDS, PMDG, and addons like UT2 or other traffic programs? 3. When using the follow me car, is that useless if you do not want to park at the gate that ATC assigns you? Most of the time when I land I don't use the FSX ATC for parking since they always send me to a gate that I don't want. If I choose to use the follow me car can I direct it to a gate other than the one FSX assigns me?Thanks for any opinions you can give me on this product. June 13, 200916 yr Author Moderator Does it only work for certain add-on airports? Not for default FSX ones? For the most part it is for addon airports, however it is free to use at one default airport EDDN and is free for a few other. These link show what airports it currently covers.http://www.aerosoft.com/shop-re/links/aesairports.htmlhttp://www.aerosoft2.de/downloads/aes/relnote_ENG.pdf Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
June 13, 200916 yr I personally think its overrated and very very expensive for what you get, they have the cheek to charge 15 Euros for 10 credits and 10 Credits will get you AES working in 2 large airports at 5 credits each. Half the time the AES vehicles collide with airport scenery and I don't like the way the vehicles disappear within site of the aircraft, why cant they drive off into the distance like any other airport ground vehicle. The sounds for the fuel truck do my nut in too, the loop is only about 1 second long and bloody irritating, also the fuel truck doesn't fuel your aircraft even in FSX and that would be an easy thing to implement in FSX.But to answer your questions though, no there isn't much of a performance hit, it interacts with your planes very well as you have to configure each plane so that the baggage trucks and stairs etc go to the correct places, its easy to do and you only need to do it once for each plane. And finally you select which stand you want to go to with a menu select system, so you can choose a different stand for the follow me vehicle than the one supplied to you by ATC if you so wish. Cheers, Andy.
June 13, 200916 yr I think its neat. I have it for both FS9 and now FSX. It adds to the experience when you at a supported airport. Mind you the list is decent and is expanding. It is a bit expensive but I suggest only get it at airports you frequent the most. There isn't a performance hit that I was able to notice. Christopher Edwards

I waited a long time for it. One could argue that it is not really necessary if all you do is cockpit fly but one could also argue that none of the addons are necessary.I think it enhances the overall realism of the sim.1. Not that I have noticed and definitely not more than FSX own fueling trucks (which I have never used)2. Perfect, you just need to configure the aircraft and that is done easily 3.You can choose the gate you want to and avoid the atc gate4. Download the program for free install it and then use the demo feature, it is free for a few minutes. You only have to buy the credits for the program which unlocks the airports. Hope this helps Mike Keigley
June 14, 200916 yr Author Moderator Thanks for the info guys. I think I will d/l it and try it at the airport that it works for free and see if its all its cracked up to be before I go an buy any credits. Really it seems as though it best used for taking cool looking screen shots with all the service vehicles attached. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
June 14, 200916 yr I don't believe its overrated, Ill admit it is expensive, it does add more realism for the sim instead of just arriving at the airport heading towards the gate with no marshaller or safe gate, hopefully in the future they can add more ramp workers walking around besides the vechiles all for that extra realism. you do spend most of the time flying but it is very fun and realstice after a long flight seeing some movement at the ramp. I myself used to work at the ramp with aa md80s so I do like seeing stuff like that on the sim. June 14, 200916 yr I'll tell you one thing. Once you have it, :( you won't want to fly to airports that don't. Robert Yunque PilotEdge Ratings = CAT-11 (2016-09-13) I-11 (2016-10-23) V-3 (2016-08-01)
June 15, 200916 yr I use it in both FS9 and FSX... I think it is one of the benchmark add-ons in the history the FS series! :(
June 15, 200916 yr I never buy scenery addons that dont have global effect.I will buy AEX when it covers most fs airports.

June 16, 200916 yr Currently have it activated for the FSDT KORD and damned if I dont love it. The ability of AES to nail the pushback every time without the flipping guesswork is worth the price alone IMHO.
