October 23, 200916 yr Author Thanks for posting this. Always fun to hear from someone that is having a good time with this sim.BobHi Bob!Yes, I'm having the FSX time of my life! :)I think that it's pretty cool that I drop no further than 24, with everything important, running at full-bore. Truly, it is just amazing to see the landscape around you as you bank off from your rise above the runway! I have waited 24 years to be immersed like this! This is the first system since 1985 that is DOING IT! No compromises. Doing it...each and every FSX second.... (appreciated sigh!)I have never been more satisfied and happy with flight simming, than the last three months! :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))Cheers!Mitch'er
October 23, 200916 yr Author I never could understand why somebody would spend $2000.00 on a computer to play a game like CryisI do understand it for FSX because of all the free addons and new payware which makes FSX worth it.I'm going to stay put with my system until. Gulftown I hope that may just be the cores, threads and memory bandwidth that can pushFSX over the top. From what people have postedI7-975 seems to be the best for now. I'm stuck with a lowly Q9550 which is not bad.----------------------------------------------------Geez...what's LOWLY about a Q9550 system!?! I ran for years with a Pent 4! :) Now....THAT was behind the curve, so to speak, with regards to your present system. :))Mitch

If you are happy with the situation then that truly is all that is important.--------------------------------------------Hi Slait!Honestly, I never took your post in that way, absolutely not. I only thought that you focused on the 24 figure, but not on what I was asking of my system to render to BE at the 24 fps sustainable. I mean...I have everything flat full-out in the Scenery and Weather Departments..and I can STILL get 24 FPS!!!!Slait, for me, it was worth the money. I now have true-to-life flight immersion. Before this...nowhere even remote to that aforementioned statement.I stayed with the P4 until I had saved the money to purchase the system I had decided upon. Was it worth the wait for i7 technology to come to the fore? YES! An unequivocal; YES!Cheers!
October 23, 200916 yr I have to agree with Mitch.......I have bought one computer and built three since I got FSX in Oct. 06.....OVER 4000.00 in hardware in 3 years JUST for FSX...Latest rig is an i7 920@4ghz,GTX285SC oc,ed,6g RAM,P6T V2 Deluxe,blah,blah....And it is all worth it for me...All I do now is fly, instead of adding "stuff" and tweaking....Lou BMG50 C172P N97674 PPL SEL Complex High Performance
October 23, 200916 yr Author Hi all, Just wanted to make a universal correction to my O.P. Everything in SCENERY is ticked/or sliders, full on, EXCEPT BLOOM Effect which is never used by mysef and not activated within FSX.This was important to clarify as BLOOM sucks FPS down to its death. With bloom on, I can drop to 10-14 FPS with ease. I never use it.Thank you.Mitch
October 23, 200916 yr I also have to agree. I don't know how much I have spent on hardware in the last 10 years just to find small increases in performance with each upgrade. This is the first system I have put together that has wowed me. I do get a hit from UT2 at 100% but it is definitely manageable. The immersion of slicing through 4096 REX2 clouds at MACH1 in the F18 is amazing - like nothing I have experienced with FS until now.Another thing that helps - I just all lost of my FS files except payware installers and a FS9 backup in a HD crash. I was forced to start from scratch with this FSX and OS install. The only annoying part is getting the sim back together. Just reinstalling POSKY 737's and meshing them with FSX vc's is enough to make me pull my hair out. October 23, 200916 yr Mitch,I am curious as to why you are still using the FPS Limiter with your current system. Have you tried locking your frames to 30 within FSX and not using the FPS Limiter?? On the i7 systems I have helped to configure for FSX thus far, I have found that setting the frames to unlimited in FSX and using the FPS Limiter actually degrades performance. On my previous system, which had a QX9650 the FPS Limiter seemed to help smooth things out. I just haven't found an i7 system as of yet that benefits in any way, shape or form when utilizing the FPS Limiter.

I'll just fire up FSX and set the internal limit to 30 and see if there is a difference. If not, then perhaps, will as you suggest, just cap the FPS internally.Cheers!Mitch

This alone is a reason for meto stick with the Frame Limiter application. Less utilization = less heat = less fan noise etc. Bert
