March 6, 201313 yr You are welcome Paul. I remember when we first found out about this it was one of the best "tweaks" I had ever used in FS9. So I'm hoping we can reawaken the thread and see if anyone has any new fixes to share. In my case, I have become obsessed with retro traffic so I have dozens of models I'm now using that I haven't modified yet. Those "triangle lights" are like a slap in the face once you've become used to not seeing them... I just wish there was a simple "hex" that we could put on the whole program to make it change! LOL Unfortunately, there's no easy voodoo fix... But once the work's done, you will all be pleased with the results
March 6, 201313 yr 220039000A220039002E220039000E220039000C2200390042??? You have got to be kidding... If I did one a minute, I'd still be here next week, with matchsticks propping open my exhausted eyelids, and half my AI models crippled in strange ways with the mistakes I'd make. Ian, this really looks like a candidate for your FS9 Open Source Project (FOSP) for next holiday. So much work has been done by so many... be criminal to lose all that, or have to replicate it in dozens of sims all over the world.
March 9, 201313 yr I totally agree mate. In fact, it was this very issue that planted the idea in my mind. It's insane for everyone to invest all that time doing all those models when we could share the work. But as was discussed at the time, the fear of modifying other people's work without permission and the difficulty of obtaining that permission meant that although we shared the data, we still each had to make the modifications ourselves instead of just uploading the modified files... 220039000A220039002E220039000E220039000C2200390042???You have got to be kidding...If I did one a minute, I'd still be here next week, with matchsticks propping open my exhausted eyelids, and half my AI models crippled in strange ways with the mistakes I'd make.Ian, this really looks like a candidate for your FS9 Open Source Project (FOSP) for next holiday. So much work has been done by so many... be criminal to lose all that, or have to replicate it in dozens of sims all over the world.
March 9, 201313 yr AVSIM has a robust policy about uploads: if anyone objects, it is gone. To me that is the safety net in a process which might go: Modify the original file email the author for permission to upload (you'd have a standard patter about how this is for the benefit of all mankind, no commercial advantage etc) Wait 2 weeks Comply with the reply No reply? Upload the file. Even if just one file successfully makes it to upload, there is benefit to the community.
March 9, 201313 yr That's sort of what I have in mind... I'll keep you all posted when I get started on it. Until this semester is over, I don't want to start any new projects. I'm getting too old to multi-task! LOL
March 10, 201313 yr Can someone post a screenshot of an open hex editor? I've downloaded the one in the link, opened it, opened an AIA file and I don't see the strings that are mentioned. Where should i be looking? Thanks
April 5, 201313 yr Anyone? Why when I search for said strings in HXD there's no result? How about a screenshot on how the lights look?
April 6, 201313 yr these modifications don't enhance AI light effects. What it provides is a means of permanently turning off the triangle and cone light effect from AI or user aircraft. The modification is intended to enhance your night operations in foggy conditions by removing those effects from AI models. Once you have those effects permanently turned off, you can then enhance your AI light effects by using 3D light effects such as these (payware) or these (freeware-fx_Enigma_3Dlanding). I understand some people think this is a crazy process (time consuming), but once completed, you can truly become immersed while flying that 1/2 SM ILS into CYYT without seeing these white triangles on the ground.I'm not sure what you're doing wrong with your hex search, but here are a few before/after shots of the AI FAIB 737-200 (gravel kit) model. These shots were taken with a visibility of 1SM to show you the triangle and cone effects.RJ
April 7, 201313 yr Thanks so much 3Green for your reply. The effect looks fantastic! I don't know why I can't find the strings you mentioned in your previous posts. I used the freeware HxD and used the search function, put in the numbers you mentioned, and it doesn't come up with anything. The link to the freeware lights doesn't point to anything so I'll give it a search. Now that I've seen the pictures I REALLY want to work on fixing the AI lights.

The link I mention is broken, but you can search www.flightsim.com file name: 733enigmanas.zip. Unzip it and you can use the 3D effects "fx_Enigma_3Dlanding.fx" and "fx_Enigma_3Dtaxi.fx". What AI model were you trying to work on and couldn't find the hex values? RJ
April 13, 201313 yr Due to the shear number of AI models and because everyone has customized their AI to their own needs, writing a C++ program to fully automate this model conversion is nearly impossible. I have found a semi-automatic solution which makes this chore much easier. As an example, it's now possible to convert your entire aardvark (aia) fleet in about 20 minutes or less and you no longer require matchsticks to keep your eyes  open while doing voodoo. Not perfect but better. If their is enough interest, I'll put together a triangle/cone removal kit.RJ
April 13, 201313 yr A batch option? I'd like it, even if I have to copy all my AI aircraft to another folder and then batch deleting everything but the model folders. April 13, 201313 yr I would be very interested in that RJ- keeping my fingers crossed that there's enough interest. -certified speed-junkie and jet-junkie.
