Frame rate limiter

Featured Replies

I'm no longer using the frame rate limiter program, as I'm running DX10, but quickly looking at the bat file, shouldn't the linestart C:\"Program Files\fps limiter\"FPS_Limiter.exe /f:30 /x:OFF /l:OFF "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe"read asstart "C:\Program Files\fps limiter\FPS_Limiter.exe" /f:30 /x:OFF /l:OFF "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe"(note the locations of the quotes on the first half of the line).I'm not sure, again, as I haven't run the frame rate limiter program in quite some time, it just looks 'off' to me the way it is being used here.
I also don't use the limiter anymore, but my previous example is copied from the bat I used the last time I used the limiter: the " are indeed in odd places, but that's where they are supposed to be! I didn't check if placing those " differently really makes a difference or not, but I would keep them in those odd places if I were to use the limiter. :(

I have finally go this fps limiter to work. I locked the fps at 27. Why is it when I go to full screen mode it seems to lock it a 9fps? Doing the math, 9 is 1/3 of the 27 which is my locked fps. I have 3 monitors running btw. SO I just thought off the top of my head that maybe this fps limiter is sharing the fps for 3 monitors. SO now I tried to limit the fps to 60. With fps limiter it looks that my average fps is 19-20 (In full screen mode). AGAIN with 3 monitors that 20 is 1/3 of my locked fps in fps limiter.NOW I tried to limit the FPS to 90 with fps limiter and it look like it tries to lock my FPS at 19-20 STILL. This is probably because my max fps is limited to the hz refresh rate on my monitor which is 60. AND if I am running 3 monitors then 1/3 of 60 will be 20. So 20 is the most I will get out of 3 monitors. So my next step was to try and disable one monitor. Now my FPS went up drastically to 31. So far that makes sense. with fps limiter locking my fps to 60 and 2 monitors sharing that 60 fps each monitor would get 30 fps which with my 31 fps is very close.SO now I disabled another monitor, leaving me with one monitor, and fps limiter locking my fps to 60 sure a heck I am getting 60 FPS with one monitor. SO why is it that FPS limiter is dependant on how many monitors I am running AND only when I am in full screen mode? Just to finalize it all and make sure I wasn't going cookoo, I went back to three monitors, ran FSX in full screen mode with fps limiter locked at 60 and sure as heck all I could get was 20 fps. If I go to windowed mode it jumps up to 60 fps as it should.

I also don't use the limiter anymore, but my previous example is copied from the bat I used the last time I used the limiter: the " are indeed in odd places, but that's where they are supposed to be! Yeah, the quotes do look off to me, but if it works, it works. :) Like I said, just from looking at it, it didn't look right, but that's why I said I wasn't sure as I haven't used the limiter in a really long time. Thanks for clearing that up, as I don't want to post incorrect information. Thanks for the heads-up, greatly appreciated.-George

Does anyone know where i can get a copy of this.I have tried all the download links and just get errors.
Same here. Googling fps_limiter_0.2.rar came up with some files, but something from a trusted source would be welcome.

Thanks, Bert -- that had it.

Something that has not been discussed in length about the FPS Limiter:You can set it to any FPS (#) you want. Ideally, it should be your AVERAGE FPS.So, if it is 45 FPS on average... This is what you should set your .bat file to, 45 instead of 30.I set it to 60 just to test and of course, my average was no where near that number. The flight was smooth, but the actual FPS was still fluctuating from 35-45. This is one way to find your average FPS if it isn't blatantly obvious by looking at the Ctrl+Z numbers. The reason the average is important is because it might be higher than 30.Even though FSX smooths out the frame rate at lower (average) frame rates, a higher frame rate is still desirable like most other games; it gives you more headroom. Especially for a smoother visual image and more importantly, better control responsiveness.
And also, you can set the lock in realtime anytime by using the F11 (goes down one/button click) and F12 (goes up) keys. I do this because ground traffic can get a little jerky unless i dial the lock down to 26 or so, then back up to 30 or higher once I'm airborn.NoelNoel

I have installed the limiter, and it seems to be doing the trick my frames are sticking around the 30 mark. However when trying to manually adjust the limit using F11 and F12 all i get is a view change.Do i need to assign keys to this command so that i can adjust the setting, or is this something that the installation does autmatically. Can anyone offer any advice to resolve this.ThanksTom

Why not read some useful tips and tricks - http://forum.avsim.n...22#entry1965722

You should get a view change and a change in FPS. Display the FPS in FS, then hit F11 repeatedly and you should see the number drop.
How do you install it? The one that I downloaded has a German read me OrIs there a manual for it?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------This one program (I now use it all the time) has completely eliminated the occasional FSX freeze-up that some as well as I have reported. With this managing things, no more screen freeze. I have mine set for 30 (it comes that way as default FPS setting) and with in-FSX as unlimited.Enjoy when you get it set up.Mitch

The FPS Limiter program has made an enormous difference in FSX performance for me. I have it set for 24 FPS but occassionaly from time to time it sets itself to 30 FPS. That works just as well though. This is just an example, and maybe the best example, of how an outside program can overcome an FS limitation (excuse the pun :( ).Stephen

hi,I installed FPS limiter. I set it to 60 because I have 2 monitors, created the batch file. I launched the exe file which launched FSX. I set fps to unlimited. I works except that the FPS is nowhere around 30 as expected but goes from 20 to 75.What did I do wrong?(XP 32 SP3 DX9, N vidia GT 8800 GT)Thanks

I've noticed that the program can be a bit random, sometimes starts with a limit of 30, sometimes 60 no matter what I set in the batch. My trick is to just keep windows focus on the FPS limiter DOS window as FSX is starting, thats the only way I get the limiters FPS display to consistently display. Then you can use F11/F12 to set your desired level and off you go.
