Nick and/or Jesus - Almost there...

I have done your tweaks and I am impressed. When I bought this machine a month ago, I swore off the tweaks altogether since it should be fast enough to run FSX at max everything. Wrong. But with the tweaks, I am getting a very satisfying frame rate and no apparent stability problems or stutters at all. My question to you is what setting should I change to better load the auto gen to stop trees/bushes and buildings from slowly popping in. By slowly popping in, I don't mean they pop in and then disappear, some are just popping in late. It's like most of the scenery is there but FSX decides to add a few trees here and there, maybe a house over there, etc. It's very noticeable when I'm staring out of the cockpit or using an outside view. So what can I do to stop this behavior? The tweaks I have applied are TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=0.7RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=0.7RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=0.7RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=0.7TextureMaxLoad=9FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.25TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096HIGHMEMFIX=1PoolSize=0AffinityMask=14LOD_RADIUS=6.500000TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=600I have Anisotropic and AA set in-game. I am using ENB with Nick's settings, and unlimited frame rate in-game with a 24FPS external limiter. Thanks in advance, dolph

I've noticed this too.. they slowly 'fade in' obviously this is more noticeable on high end machines, because everything runs so great, except that particular autogen fade in thing...I think Nick can definitely answer that question much better, my guess is that FSX was designed that way, but I really don't know...

dolph,The only setting that you can adjust that helps to reduce the autogen "popping" is to increase your LOD radius. With the LOD slider full right in FSX settings the highest LOD radius you can attain is 4.5. You can manually edit your FSX config file and increase this setting. The higher the setting, the less "popping' you will notice. However, the higher you set it, the more you tax your system because you are asking it draw much more autogen at any one point in time (so it can be very taxing in dense areas of autogen). Increasing the LOD will also help to keep your ground textures sharp. You must experiment to find a sweet spot. I happen to prefer an LOD of 6.5. Also keep in mind that if you make any configurations settings within FSX your LOD radius will revert back to 4.5 and you will have to again edit your fsx.cfg file to increase it.There is nothing you can do to stop it, only minimize it. This is the manner in which FSX was designed.Regards,Bob

Ah, the pollen count. Maybe we can make diesel fuel from it?Add the LOD to my list above, I already have it at 6.5. Thanks. Maybe I should do 9.5 as I did in the past...I noticed that even if you turn shadows on or off, you have to go back in and set LOD to 6.5 and TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD to 4096.

I think this is where SSD's can make a big difference with texture loading, but I don't know if that includes autogen. I am going to be installing Windows 7 64 and FSX Acceleration on two seperate SSD's with 200 MB/s read speeds this coming week, so I will know better than.

I believe Phil Taylor recognized this as a problem at the outset. After SP2 he admitted that Aces did not have the time to get to what he called *Alpha Fade* and therefore it was not addressed and not fixed. Said they had to move on to FS next. And you know what happened next!

And now bye... to bed :)

--------------------------------------------------------The 'sweet-spot' for me is a LOD of 6.5 also. No performance hit, only scenery-rendering pluses. Beyond that...you get hit. i7-975/GTX285 1GB
