Ron, I do have to say kudos to you for coming on here and sticking up for you business decisions...however unpopular they may be. I was just poking around you website. I have to say that the SR-22 looks pretty appealing :( The question is how does it fly?

JP, devs have heard all the clamour for XYZ Product for FS9 and seen the, shall we say rather shallow ROI, and are now inclined to disbelieve the clamour and hyperbole in favor of the cold hard facts before their eyes. :(

Well it's hard to answer but after some three or so years we've had not one complaint on the way it flies that I can recall.By the way, our existing and a few future FS9 products will remain on our site despite our decision to gradually phase out FS9 development. :(

JP, we agree. If ones makes a statement and later changes their mind they should man up and apologize if needed. :(

I'm just going to add... Eaglesoft's decisions aren't based on sales of a single product. To claim or assume so is simply silly. People have stopped buying in the FS9 area... period. Sales volumes for FS9 are down, across the market. FSX is still going strong. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what to do.

Indeed,and as I am not a rocket scientist .... :(

Hi.As a scenery developer I may presume that is pretty different what you need in resources, knowledge, hours/work, etc, to develop an aircraft, comparing to a scenery. So, the decisions envolving this kinds of products are completely different regarding to market, platform, prices, and others.I could risk to say that we, scenery developers, are in a easier side on this FS9 / FSX development matter by now.So, I must admit that we keep producing for both sims. It`s easier for us to do this way.Since we put both FS9 and FSX independent installers together for each scenery we release, leaving for our users to decide wich to use, or to use both, we don`t even have to research market to discover if we sell more to 9 or X, we just keep producing both versions. No problem. Our present and future projects are targeted for both simmers:- Buenos Aires / Ezeiza: FS9 and FSX.- Bilbao / Sondica: FS9 and FSX.- Havana: FS9 and FSX.- Belize Intl`: FS9 and FSX.- Azores Complete Pack: FS9 and FSX.Now, talking as a simple simmer, I confess I use FS9. I don`t like FSX :( Maybe when PMDG 737NG for FSX is out I can add a decisive factor to try to change my mind on this, but for now...I have both installed here, my machine is able to run both on an enjoyable way, but I only use FSX to test our own sceneries before releasing them, nothing more. It`s just a matter of personal taste, I believe.Well... ok, let me be extremely sincere to you, folks. :( I think there is another cause helping this feeling too: by now, almost four years later, I have still not forgiven FSX for the big mess an all the pain it caused to us (devs) when it appeared. Done, I confessed. Feel better now. :( FSX hit us to hard to forgive it, then came SP-1 and hit us hard again, and finally SP-2 made it easier to deal with.As this is what we do for leaving, but at the same time we love to do it, our personal tastes and preferences must be considered on our decisions, under the risk to loose the pleasure to do a scenery. We enjoy and have a lot of fun doing an airport, how could we let our favorite sim away of this process? This is why we still produce for FS9 too: we use it.My best regards,Carlos Pereira.www.tropicalsim.com

Our best to you on your FS9 scenery efforts. :(

Hi Ron, thanks. The same for you at your projects too.In fact it`s not really an effort, as we found an easy way to produce them for FSX and then re-work what`s necessary to create FS9 versions. Just some more days of adjustments and changes.I understand that producing a full aircraft would be a lot more complex and hard to do if the same was to be achieved, this is why I mentioned it`s easier for scenery devs to decide about both sims or not.No critics to none developer`s choices, at all. For the contrary, each one has his own reasons. We wouldn`t be confortable having to make this kind of choice too.Expressing on a somewhat "not refined and simplist way" I could say that: one version we do because we want, the other one because we have to.My best regards,Carlos Pereira.www.tropicalsim.com

People in PMDG's forum asked if PMDG would do a prepay system for the fs9 NGX. Many many people were on board with this idea. PMDG said no. That show's me (a small business owner mind you) 2 things: The reasoning behind their development plan was either made up, inaccurate, or both. The second reason being that they really don't care to do fs9 aircraft anymore, and they just want to focus on FSX. Regardless, that is just one of several examples where fs9 customers have tried to work with developers.
I think PMDG's decision there was spot on! How many times has any third party developer released an addon aircraft on-time and with no bugs, that met with customers expectations? Could you imagine the outcry that would come about if PMDG took preorders and then slipped on the release date by a week... or a month... or two? ...nevermind the inevitable bugs that always pop up after wide release. PMDG probably said no because they don't want to put themselves behind that kind of an 8-ball. God knows I wouldn't do anything like that, even if I was one of the preeminent flightsim developers of our time. We have darem mentioning that the sales of an FS9 version of a particular Aerosoft airplane was only 10% of the numbers sold for FSX. Ron Hamilton of Eaglesoft has seen firsthand a dramatic decline in the market for his FS9 products across the board. I've casually monitored the readership of the AVSIM FSX and FS9 forums (via the "XX Users Browsing this forum" info at the bottom of the page), and found the FSX forum to have consistently more people participating and reading - sometimes 2x or even 3x more at any given time.... (it's 14 vs. 32 at the time of this writing)I get why people still use FS9 - I understand it, and I am not interested in trying to pull anyone from FS9 to FSX. In some respects, there are traits of FS9 that I wish were found on FSX (*outside of sheer performance). But that being said, FS9 users need to understand that every technology will have a period of decline and waning. Just imagine what will happen in several years time when FSNext eventually makes its way on to the market... chances are it will be far less backwards compatible to what we have today (*and 0% compatible if it is not a Microsoft product), and you will have close to 10 years of development time invested in FSX addons. THAT will be an interesting market to watch.

Nothing personal... but you're bordering on advertising for Feelthere at this point in the thread. LOLAs for piracy... I know the impact of piracy on sales. Do you?
Just thought I'd address this... I'm not advertising for Feelthere but rather stating the obvious. For the record all my efforts with Feelthere has payed off in FS9 sales. Every product I've suggested and/or been involved with has payed off for Feelthere on the FS9 front. Here's a list of the most recent notable efforts:1. Boeing 737 - I and others on the team beta tested this bird and busted our tails to make sure it was solid upon release. 2. E-Jet Series - I suggested this to Vic to do. I'm not taking credit here but just the same he listened and it payed off.3. Legacy - Many features I was trying to get in the 737 made it's way into the Legacy and Vic informed me of such.3. Airbus Series - I suggested to Vic to do this one well before everyone else got on the Airbus bangwagon. To this date Feelthere has been the only developer to successfully produce the whole series to some reasonable detail. 4. ERJv2 Series - I've been at Vic for a while to update the older series like the CRJ, ERJ, 737, and Airbus series with updated VC's and features. The ERJ seems to be the first out the starting gate.I'm now petitioning development of the Boeing 717, we'll see what happens. The bottom line is every one of my suggestions has payed off in FS9 sales, no excuses no bull. Seeing as I have a track record I must know something as I have success to back it up. Again I'm not taking full credit for decisions at Feelthere I just know Vic listened at some point and the team has profits from both FSX and FS9 in their pocket. If Vic listens and releases an updated CRJ, ERJ, 737, Airbus series, and 717 the money will still flow in for both plateforms. This is not rocket science just do what others are unwilling to do and the public at large wants you to do (maybe I should farm myself out as a consultant). I have no idea why the Eaglesoft Citation X isn't selling, maybe all the updates need a charge. I was the first one to buy the Citation X for FS9 when it was released and the updates for it is nothing short of outstanding to say the least. There's life left in FS9 sales if one chooses to tap into it and get off the developer ego trip many are on, "Customers doesn't know what's best to develop" (yet their the one's you want to buy your product). Feelthere will continue to make money on the FS9 front I'll see to that because they just do what people want and are open to informed suggestions...

We didn't say the FS9 CX2.0 isn't selling, we said it doesn't sell as well as the FSX CX2.0 version despite the fact that the FS9/FSX Versions both earned the the Avsim Gold Star Award. Please understand that our FS9 CX2.0 example was just that...an example and we'll reiterate once more that our decisions are based on across the board numbers, not on a single projects numbers. It is also important to remember that we've never said FS9 is dead. In fact I've posted many times that I enjoy and run FS9 and have no intention of removing it from my drive. Our only point in all the back and forth between FS9 and FSX supporters is that we and others find FS9 development no longer viable. :(

Surely the bottom line is that it's the developers who put their time and money into future add-ons and so they will put obviously their resources into those areas they that think are most worthwhile. Why should anyone complain about that? - it's the way the commercial world works. There are no real barriers to entering add-on development, so those who think they know better are free to begin developing whatever they want for whatever platform they chose.

You say this yet me and others are still getting Feelthere sizable profits in FS9 (in some cases more than FSX)... :(

Les, with respect mate. Your banging your head on the wall. They don't want to know. It's much easier to just write software for one sim and they have (Rightly or wrongly) chosen FSX.Only experience will tell them whether they did the right thing or the wrong. This hobby has completely lost it's way. These forums aren't what they used to be and the people that made this hobby a freindly place here on Avsim, have dissapeared and left it to the misguided.I was flying the PT154M again today. The best freeware ever, and guess what, FS9 only. How's that for ingenuity eh? :( :(
