EZdok + TrackIR + Effects

Featured Replies

Just in case anyone is wondering whether EZCA also works with the Freetrack freeware headtracking software, it does, and brilliantly.I bought EZCA last night, just for VC effects, and it really is a cool program. In case the developer happens to spot this, I would gladly pay twice as much for an FS9 version.

Ok, JUST installed...One word: AMAZING STUFF! worth every penny :)

The only thing that was stopping me from getting this was that I had a TrackIR 3 and software version 4. Thanks Cheeso

I never thought I would like trackIR. I guess I am just fine using a hat switch to look around the vc, and click with a mouse. I also get up from my seat often and would think using the TIR would just be annoying. It's so expensive though!! Maybe I will change my mind

The hat switch and mouse does not come close to a TrackIR. Also, you can quickly pause/unpause and recenter the TrackIR as needed with a simple key press (I use F9 to pause/ F12 to recenter), like when you adjust your seating position, or if you to get up and walk away. If you getup without pausing, it will still work fine as well when you return, it just might need a recenter.

TrackIR might be the most important component of using FSX. EZDok/TR really gives you the sense of flight. you are no longer "hard fixed" to the airplane and now sway and bob with the airplane. The default airplanes work flawlessly but add on aircraft "Carenado" need alot of tweaking. You have to create atleast one camera view for "pilot eyes" for and tweaks to be saved. Took a day or so for me to find this after reading some forums about it. Now on final the plane dips and bobs like the real thing. Even ground effect can almost be felt. Brought back a memory when I was Taking lessons and right before a greaser of a landing The Piper warrior II I was flying floated back up right before the stale horn and bam!! I knocked the instructors sunglasses off of his head. :( The visual of being compressed into the seat as the plane floated back up was perfect from EZdok. Big thumbs up.

Buying it is not the problem for me but most of this stuff you have to be a computer engineer to confiquere it properly, and of course they never tell you that so right now unless they have a real good getting started tutorial on u-tube i can't be bothered, been caught too many times getting frustrated.
Well, it isn't THAT complicated...! I am using default settings for almost everything and it works like a charm. Here's a short tutorial so set up a view how you want it.1. When you are in the VC, open EZdok studio using the menu (switch to FSX windowed mode to actually see it).2. Click on the name of the view you want to edit or if there aren't any views (there weren't any for my addon aircraft), click three times in an empty viewslot and enter a name.3. For convenience sake, add a shortcut to the view: click once on the Keyb SHORTCUT field and when it has turned red, click your desired shortcut (otherwise you will have to switch back to the studio everytime).4. To make editing easy, make sure the green buttons called POV (for moving around with keys) and Z (for zooming with the middle mouse button) are activated. Leave ML (mouse look) off (you can enable it when you need it by pressing and holding the middle mouse button). (PTP is activated by default and makes switching between views smooth, but that's of no importance for editing views.)5. Now go back to FSX (full screen if you want to) and (with the view you want to edit selected: press the shortcut again to be sure) simply move around using the arrow keys (left, right, forward, backward), the Page Up and Page Down keys (up and down) and if you want to look around, press and hold the middle mouse button and move the mouse. Use the middle mouse button to zoom in and out (scrolling): the default EZdok view is zoomed a lot. This way you can position yourself very easily anywhere you want to. BTW You can also move around like this if you don't want to edit a view but simply move around!6. When you like the view you have and want to keep it, press NUMPAD 2 twice and that's it: your view has been overwritten with the current settings! If you don't like what you've done (at anytime) and want to reset the view (or if you didn't want to save it at all but just wanted to move around), simply press the shortcut you made earlier on and you are back where you started. (Actually, the manual tells you to press NUMPAD 2 to enter the EDIT mode, change the view and then exit the edit mode and save the view, but then you will here an annoying beep all the time: setting up the view and THEN pressing NUMPAD 2 twice does the same!)That's all! If you want add another view you can 1. create a new view from scratch (click three times on an empty spot in the EZdok studio etc. etc.) or 2. rightclick on the view you want to base it upon (in the EZdok studio) and choose Clone camera with effects. Simple as that. (You cannot move around or edit a view and then save is as a NEW view: maybe that will be possible in the future. Right now you can only edit and save the current view.)As far as effects are concerned: personally I enable all three red buttons (RD, DHM and CR) for all motion effects. I use the default settings and feel no need to dig into all those options. If you need a specific view to stay steady during flight (to use knobs or whatever) you can disable the effects for that specific view or you can temporarily disable EZdok with NUMPAD 3 (which works as a toggle).Really, it's quite easy to do: it took me about 15 minutes to figure things out and I don't really understand why a lot of people seem to have problems setting EZdok up.

Thanks, you explained more in that response than all the EZCA manual did and two days af rereading. I just took this software down I might now try again. I loved the pilots and aircrafts movements no interest in cameras I just wanted to use my standard FSX keys for moving toward and away from the instrument panel. I didn't like switching "Trueview" off for my TrackIR. Nor did I like continually going into Windows mode. It would be an idea, as an option, to put the EZCA menu screen up as a gauge switched on from the fullscreen menu bar and avoid the Fulscreen/Windowed dance. My ideal would be a stripped down version of this software with just the effects stuff I could go for that big time.

I purchased it and am using with TrackIR version 5. It's awesome, love the takeoff and landing effects. I just finished a flight from KORD to KCHS in the PMDG 747, and coming in to KCHS I ran in to a heavy thunderstorm. The turbulence effects really made for a rough ride in, which was cool. I like it so much I am flying from KCHS on to KPIT.

Is there a quick key for momentary disabling/pausing the EZDok effects? I ask because I was took off from KLAX in my PMDG MD-11, and the turbulence effects were so strong that I couldn't manipulate the autopilot controls due the cockpit view moving too much. I was unable to keep the mouse cursor on the control knobs to make changes.

The default ON/OFF toggle is NUM Keypad 3, I believe.

Thanks, you are correct. I missed it when I checked the manual.

I found the problem is that when I disabled the EZCA it also disalbed my TrackIR so I could look around to make other hot spot clicks.

Any videos of it working with TrackIR5? I'm tempted, very tempted but would like to see it in action first.

I am having a lot of trouble figuring out how to do the assignments (I am not using TIR). I am not getting timely input on the forum so I am wondering if anyone can help out here. Before EZDoc, I could cycle through cockpit views, spot view and wing views using two buttons on my yoke. I really only want the following viewsVC Left seatVC Right SeatLocked SpotLeft Wing viewRight Wing ViewI can still cycle through the FSX created views but I can't cycle through the EZDoc views. It seems that I either have to enter the studio to switch, create a keyboard shortcut or assign a joystick button for every single view. I don't have that many joystick buttons available and I don't want to use the keyboard. Trying to hit Shift+J during flight is not optimal because my keyboard is on the left of my yoke and I fly in the dark.Today I bought a Logitech G13 Game pad but I am very disappointed to find that FSX only recognizes it when keyboard presses are assigned - it won't recognise the the key presses as joystick buttons. Now what?Is there a way I can get the G13 to act as a joystick and not a second keyboard? Is there a way to cycle views with EZDoc? Is there a different type of hardware I sould be looking at? This G13 thing has 24 keys on it and a mini-joystick and all of them react to keyboard assignments. I wanted something that is recognised as a joystick by FSX, FSUIPC and EZDoc with 24 free buttons. I love the head latency effects and the ability to create camera views easily but I am at the point where my enthusiasm is starting diminish over EZDoc. If I can switch views quickly, what is the point in having them in the first place?
