FSX Disapointment

Featured Replies

Hello all,Just got my new pc and am already having a hard time. These are the specs:-ASUS PEX58D PREMIUM-intel core i7 980X 3.33GHz 12MB 1366 Six-Core-ZOTAC GTX 480 1536MB GDDR5 C/HDMI PCI-EXP-ATX Cooler Master HAF 922 BLACK + SevenTeam 1000W ST-1000EAZ- HD Seagate 1TB 7200RPM 32MB SATA II (FOR WINDOWS 7)- HD WD VelociRaptor 600 GB, SATA 3 Gb/s, Cache 32 MB, 10.000 RPM (FOR FSX)- XMS3 Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) DDR 3 1600 CAS 7-8-7-20 1.65V- LG W2353V MONITOR WIDESCREEN 23"- wINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL 64bitWell... first of all, I wasn't able to install FSX at the WD velcoraptor, simply because the program automatically installs itself into the Seagate !tb where Windows is. I'm very annoyed byy that. It doesn't ask wich installation pattern do I want!Do you gguys know what seems to be the problem??Well... tried FS even so... just for test, tried to maximize ALL the sliders to the right and got at O'hare and JFK, withnthe 747 default, about 10-12fps!! try to low settings a little, but even so. 12-15, sometimes 20 in big cities. When flying over NYC... 8-10fps!!! Also, with those settings and the default flight of FSX, I'm getting around 20fpsa little bit disapointed I must say... what do you guys think... I'm considering overclocking it. But is this an acceptable perfomrance for this machine????Many thanks,Lucas.a

First of all NO COMPUTER can run FSX with all the sliders maxed. Secondly, when you are installing FSX, if you just follow the canned install procedure it will install FSX onto your root drive. If you choose more options during your install you can specify exactly where FSX is to be installed. If you are trying to run FSX with all your sliders maxed, then this is acceptable performance.Regards,Bob

Your system is very good but 6 cores probably won't do better than 4 in FSX. You're right that a higher clock speed will help and you could get above 4 GHZ with the right CPU cooler and BIOS settings. FSX performance is mainly a function of autogen and clouds. I recommend using the autogen tweak and the FPS limiter even on high end systems if you want to fly near big cities. Otherwise you will get low frames under some circumstances, even with the best hardware available today.Cheers,Noel.

Yeah no-no to the sliders maxed...You'll want vc shadows/self shadowing/DX10/light bloom all set to off... for startersSet water to 2x low, autogen and scenery to very dense, and try locking your fps at 26-30.... Set ai traffic airplanes to no higher than 50%, cars set to no higher than 20%, and boats to 10%Also you'll want to run nHancer eventually for best image quality....Then check out the FSX tuning guide:http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?tid=29041And the FPS Limiter application:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...t&p=1552486And dont forget to defrag after an installtion

Uninstall FSX and reinstall it to the WD drive or you'll never get the performance you want and will probably have trouble with some add-ons.I have my 980x clocked to 4.43 on air but I do not run with all sliders maxed. Follow what ryanb said and you should be ok.I have MOST sliders maxed - water at 2Low - use the ENB bloom mod, etc and I have my fps maxed at 30 and they pretty well stay there even with clouds etc. Coming in to KLAX on a very cloudy day with real weather enabled will drop me down to mid 20's but more than acceptable. Also, my video card is not as good as yours but I'm waitging for the GTX485Vic

There's also the highmemfix, usepools=0, and affinity mask edits in fsx.cfg. And try to name a folder FSX to put the installation, sometimes the program files (x86) folder causes trouble.

FSX like life is a huge compromise! Don't worry - you will find the sweet spot. Here is what I recommend.1) OC your system > 4.1ghz. (a must) FSX luv's clock speed as that is how it was designed.2) Read the forums to find the correct settings for your system aka Bojote.3) Consider that your CPU and GPU have to work together for optimum performance. My favorite site for OCing is EVGA as they have some good how-to's.How do you like that Zotac? I am so close to buying one.Good Luck jja

DX10 on newer ATI and Nvidia cards can INCREASE frame rates a good bit. Also for the price of a 600GB VelociRaptor, you can get an SSD which is at least 10 times faster, from reading comments on them, "Mach 1 with out blurries", for the same price you get a smaller storage space (in the $200-$300 range, data sizes on NewEgg: 80GB to 160GB,) which may seam like a step backwards, but the shear reading speed and no need to defrag will make it a good investment (When I build my dream machine it's going to have 2 SSDs , 1 for the OS, the other 1 for games, and a 1TB HDD storage drive.)I still wounder when DDR5 RAM will come out :(

If you haven't installed the service packs for FSX and haven't installed them in the correct way then FSX will run like a dog on anything you care to throw at it regardless of how much money you have to spend. The release to manufacture version of FSX was completely borked.

Cheers, Andy.

The last post is most correct , if you do not load the sp updates and follow the rules on the fsx version you have you are in for a big headache, no matter what system you have.your new system is raw and needs to be tweeked , and all updates need to be loaded.Motherboard, video card, etc.get rid of all extra garbage you dont need on your new system.once your convinced your system is ready and tuned to go.start loading fsx and all of the update sp,s in the correct order, restart each time.once loaded i run fsx and start my set up , but first i run fsx with a default plane , and you will notice with your fast vid card your frame rate is real high.you will be happy for a short while until your com regulates all the sytems and then it will start to lower to a happy medium.say a good 65 fps under defaut planes .but when you start loading add,ons that number lowers.you have a great system , but you first need to attend to your engine and tune it up and prepare it for fsx , some new systems do well on start up , but most dont.there are several websites that can help you , in not at my main com to give you any , but im sure there are some folks in here that can help.Good luck..............Robert

I think that FSX Gold is less than $30. If you don't own FSX Acceleration run out and get it now.Back up all your important information.Format and re-install windows and all the important drivers. Install the 197.75 driver & nhancer. After that is taken care of, install FSX, activate. Then install Acceleration, then activate. Set-up nhancer and FSX as per Nick N's suggestion.Don't install add-ons until FSX is working well. Do some test flights. You will be amazed at how wonderful FSX Acceleration is all by itself. Then install the add-ons one by one. FSX performance will suffer with certain add-ons, this is where the BP=0 guide will come in handy. BP=0 increases performance. Do some more testing. Once you're content, overclock your system. Go as high as you can without compromising stability. There are many ways to increase performance and still have the important sliders to the right. You have a powerful system, but you still need to compromise a little. The most important advice I can give you is to start of with a fresh install of win 7 and FSX. Good luck.

When it first asks you where you want to install FSX. C:/(X86)/program files/..... Change it to your raptor drive E:/program files or what ever you named it. Even on my system I max out the scenery complexity to Extremely dense and keep the Autogen to normal. If not I get trees at the end of some runways that shouldnt be there. Water on Low 2x. All the way up , looks odd sometimes. Use Nicks guide as a starting point. http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_post...-how-to-tune-itFollow it step by step and dont skip anything. Your going to have to OC that rig and make sure the ram is running at proper speeds and timings. Run Prime95 and Intel Burntest. Get the PC 100% stable before you even mess with FSX or you will get BSOD's and other anomalies that are unrelated to FSX.Thats a beast of a system and is going to need tuned. I was so excited when I built my rig that I jumped right in too and was disapointed with the performance. I think I installed and uninstalled FSX and Addons 5 times until I got it right. Expect about 3-4 weeks of pi$$ing with your system until you get it ironed out. Its been about 5 months now since I even cracked my case open. When you get where you think it is acceptable, Copy Bojote's FSX cfg file over yours and behold the FSX pandora. Save this for last. http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...mp;hl=bjote+cfg
