QW 757

Featured Replies

The fmc may be detailed but it does not work right. ..unless they fixed it...see ->: http://www.captainsi...=1278531049/4#4
Fuel used on the progress page. Not much of an issue for me. Does the QW 757 have it right or at all? It isjust rather silly to say the CS is basically a prettied up default airplane.

Because it's practice in a sim. A flight sim. I just never understood products that turn it into fs passengers. They take away frames from my precious virtual cockpit all the modeled wings and cabin.
David, I understand what your saying but everyone does different things in the sim whether its being a passenger to driving a car or even a boat. thats the cool thing about flight simulator you can do lots of stuff with it. its actually not that bad in fsx they can separate the the models vc external ect ect. the QW model update for fsx should be really good when it comes out. :(

I mean you said that the cs fmc was as detailed as the leveldsim. The leveldsim works perfectly tho whereas the cs doesn't.that's all I was trying to say. It's offtopic I know.
Tim,In fairness not everybody is able to reproduce your problem, that's what makes it difficult to correct. Odds are the overspeed is caused by using a high cost index with little margin for error. And we all know about the glitchy FS winds and how the radically shift at will when flying at higher altitudes. Many users have corrected this by using the wind smoothing function in FSUIPC.That said, we'll take a look at the cost index tables and see if there's a way to reduce the margin between the overspeed and mach speed. No promises though.Emil
I have the qw757 and it overspeeds most of the time. I use the fsuipc wind smoothing function.NoJoY:changing the C.In doesn't help either.Vic

Go to the VNAV page in the FMC and lower your cruise speed

I've had the QW757 for a few months now but removed it from my old PC in anticipation of the new FSX native model.Like many people I also have an issue with the autobrakes. They do not work. I have installed it on my brand new top of the range Windows 7 PC today and they still don't work. This is a known issue with many people posting about it on their forum. Is it fixed? For now I have gone back to using my tried and trusted Level-D 767.

Here's my take. Captain Sim is the equivalent of a mountain climber who sets off to climb to the top of Mt. Everest. He spends years in preparation and bragging about the venture, get's to within 1,000 feet of the summit and decides to climb back down and go deep sea diving instead without ever finishing what he set out to do in the first place. Captain Sim 757 and 767 are so close to being at a LDS or PMDG quality that its frustrating to see that they never finish the job after getting so close. The problem with the 757 (like the 767) is not that they don't bother to model a lot of things...they just don't bother to model a lot of things well. The things that QW bothers to model in the sim are done according to the target of being a medium simulation with enough "meat" to keep you occupied. Here's a for instance. During the startup procedure the QW 757 it flicks on the fuel levers by itself. At first I'm thinking WHY would they do that? Why not just leave it alone for me to turn on. Well the fact is this is actually MORE realistic than meets the eye. During the startup flow one pilot monitors the instruments, the other turns on the fuel levers between 18% N1 and "max motoring" around 22% N1 as commanded. SO it's these little things that are done to make things "easier" that actually make it more realistic. Yes, its a medium simulation, but the things that are there work well. ON the other hand the CS757 has more "stuff" but many of the things are not implemented well. Even the start procedure was botched (having to have the engine bleed air valves open in order to start when in fact only the APU bleed air valve needs to be open). It's little broken things like this that make the Captain Sim claims of "high fidelity" frustrating. They never get around to fixing these things and then move on to the next aircraft. I'd much rather have a medium sim done well than a complex sim done half heartedly. Not to say that the QW 757 is perfect...it is not. The model is not a true FSX model even though this is being worked on and there are a few reported bugs.Of course if the LDS 757 ever gets finished I will hangar my QW 757 and put her out to pasture in favor of maximum complexity. BUT until that time the QW 757 IS THE BEST 757 available right now. Add in the fact that the visual model is impeccable, it comes with WL and 300 models and enough repaints to make your nose bleed. Yeah, go buy it my friend and you'll find yourself flying instead of on the CS 757 forums complaining. Just keep in mind that it is a MEDIUM simulation that LEANS more to the complex side (after the latest Service Packs) and keep your expectations in that range and you will be very happy.
Mike,I enjoyed your post. When the LDS gets finished? that's a good one, it's phantom-ware really. You've described CS very poignantly - I totally agree. What gets me about QW, and why I question how "on the team" Ernie Alston is, is that Ernie is TOTALLY capable of furnishing ALL of the missing parts. And, if he did so, for the most part, the LDS is irrelevant. Now, they wan't to do the 787? I just don't know about them... Basically, I feel that it is a waste of time to do these "half-baked" lite products.

The word is its fixed in the upcoming SP2 update, date unknown but soon. Its no big deal for me as reverse thrust and the toe brakes work just fine.

Um, that's just a little bit extreme IMHO. It is a bug. It is supposed to be fixed with SP2. You make it sound like it is a show stopper. Show stopper...auto brakes...really?

Autobrakes are extremely important in a heavy jumbo. I agree from the poster above, and LOL about the climbing Everest example... QW could be up there with LDS and PMDG but they don't do it. Maybe it's a business decision to not compete, and Captain Sim does have that capability too but they rarely come out with a realistic FDE and systems are lacking. It's a lite product with one of the best texture model teams ever assembled.

The CS 757 is a stunning plane and beautiful to fly when it works. I am one of those people who has the issue with the airplane rocking back and forth. In fact this seems to get worse as if it is infected or something. Last night I decided to give her another try. Immediately after take off the plane started to rock back and forth a bit. Then as I was nearing TD the plane began to rock and then just fell out of the sky. I shut off the Sim and went to bed upset because I had wasted a wonderful evening. I have also purchased the QW 757 because of my frustration with the CS issue. The airplane is nicely modeled and I don't mind some of the missing functionality. The main issue I have with this airplane is that on my machine it is terribly hard on frame rates. And no I do not have an inadequate machine. I run complex aircraft with complex airports from Aerosoft, FTX and FSDreamteam plus UTX, GEX, REX, ASE, Radar Contact, FS2 Crew and PMDG, Level-D you name it. I have never had frame-rate issues. I am hopping that the next update will solve this problem, otherwise I will be waiting till Level-D releases their version of the 757.

I have the same problem with the PMDG airplanes. Solution is to go into a registered FSUIPC and click the disable turbulence effect.

I have to double check your suggestion but has this not been mentioned on the really long thread about this issue on the CS forum?

That was the solution after a long thread in the hifisim forums regarding Active Sky and PMDG drivers. Something in the way it creates turbulence throws off airplanes that use VNAV/LNAV. It's just my guess since your symptoms are exactly what I experienced when Active Sky was trying to create turbulence.
