I'm sorry, but I have to tell you that those aren't and weren't the only people to remember and I absolutely disagree about the opinion that this event was and is in any way more important then other wars, incidents and accidents.Try a save landing in Baghdad or Kabul if you like but don't let flight sim stuff get political and if, try to avoid a superficial point of view and for example see what amount of suffering followed those people you mentioned.

I agree, I'm doing nothing. If I lost friends/relatives then yes but it didnt affect me personally so I don't need to do anything.I never understand why people need to 'honor' people that die in events. What exactly did they do?

Well, of course you can feel sad about people that died from such events, who would really doubt that? My intention was to show, that there are and were some other, far more and maybe more tragically events with a huge amount of lost lives on this planet that drew far less attention and maybe needed some more of it.I don't like this 911 focus and I don't think that it leads to a better understanding of cultures, attitudes and conflict potentials. Actually, I think that this focus leads to a far less ability to counteract those potentials. So why "only" honor those people and only this event? Open your eyes and see that this world never had a lack of events to look at and to think about what can be done to avoid future ones. For me and flight sim related: Flying online all over the world is a nice experience because you get to know some guys with the same hobby and sometimes a really different cultural background. I had and still have a lot of fun when flying to foreign countries apart from the major routes. Usually they are very friendly and those sometimes communication problems develop a funny way of flying for both sides of that Internet connection. If you come back and maybe bring a somehow exotic aircraft with you, they remember you as you do with them and this anonymous community gets al little more personal.Nice touch I think and far more beneficial to everyones mind than any "honor" about this one event.

I usually do KBOS-KLAX in an American 767 on 9/11. However I've got to work a bunch today and can't fit such a long flight in. Oh well... maybe this is the year I break that mini-tradition.

Playing this game honours no one.

You CAN do more.I know your heart's in the right place, but why not just give the money for your next FS add-on to a charity intead? Or resolve to do some voluntary work? Memory is of course important, but practical help is always of more use. Playing a game has no meaning really. If it's your way of coming to terms with something though, well fair enough. But - and this is purely my personal view of course - I find the idea of recreating a doomed flight to mark its occurence somewhat disturbing. Ian

Ya, let's not politicize. :) What happened after 911 doesn't change what did happen on September 11th. In my opinion, at least for most Americans, it was and will always remain a very big deal. It surpasses anything in my lifetime, including the news that President Kennedy had been shot. Now, back to my morning freight run. Thanks.Bob.. :)

Approximately 16.5 million people died in World War I. Between 50 and 70 million people died in World War II. 6 Million Jews were exterminated in concentration camps. Prior to the 20th century countless tens of millions were killed for ideologies, religion and just plain old greed throughout the history of humanity. 2,996 people died on September 11th 2001. There are mass graves in Cambodia with move innocent victims in it than that, put there by the command of Pol Pot who was singularly responsible for commanding the deaths of millions. It would seem quite meaningless to be upset about 2,996 victims of the attacks of 9/11 but not be upset about the hundreds of millions of innocent people who died before them at the hands of crazed lunatics.Don't forget about the 168 innocent people who died when an American blew up the Murrah building in Oklahoma city in the worse act of terrorism on U.S. soil prior to 9/11. My friend. if you are going to morn and commemorate the deaths of innocent people you will have to mourn non-stop every day for the rest of your life. Where is the news coverage for the OKC Bombing anniversary? Is it not as bad because it wasn't a Muslim who blew up the building? We label McVeigh a "domestic terrorist" as if he is somehow different from the regular terrorists. Why is it that Muslim terrorists are terrorists but American terrorists are "criminals"?My friend, humans are cruel they always have been and always will be. The beautiful thing about the virtual world of flight simulator is that it is 100% free of humans therefore free of stupidity and politics. It is a world in which we can enjoy our hobby with no one there to pollute it, and wage wars in it. Let's keep it that way.

How about just saying no... I prefer to move on instead of giving a history lesson and trying to make this guy feel guilty for something that obviosly hits a little closer to home than what it does for the rest of us.

Some very, very good comments here. In the journey of world history this is but a bump on the highway, but in the short term muuch more important. It changed our country our lives and the world for now and the foreseeable future. We will never again feel as safe as we did on 9-10-2001 nor can we afford to drop our vigilance. We must be correct every time; the terrorists need be correct only once.As for honoring or commemorating the loss; each can do so in their own way. If you wish to remember by duplicating the interupted flights, do so. If you wish to quietly contemplate the day's events or make a contribution to charity, do so. I expect most of us will do what those inocent people were doing, we'll go to work, play, enjoy family time and expect to see our loved ones in the morning. We should not dwell on 9-11 but we should not forget it either.

"Ask a simple question", I should of known better, but since there are some thoughtful and meaningful replies, I'll explain myself a bit.Of course there are many other tragedies over the course of history, but few involve airplanes in such a direct way and even fewer that have been a 'sneak attack' on the US. I am no longer active but I am a commercial pilot, and I can put myself in the cockpit of those planes very easily. Having the responsibility for all those lives, and being helpless to defend them, is something those only those that have had that responsibility can understand, I don't expect other's to.To be honest, I never expected the tone of the replies here. On this day FSX is simply another way for me, in a very small way, to honor the memories of those lost.To each his own.

PIC, I have never recreated one of the flights. I still get all broken up every 9/11.Also, ignore the soapboxateers.

Tons more .. but this one sticks in my mind Rwandan Genocide (1994 mass murder of an estimated 800,000 people). Over the course of approximately 100 days!
