flightsim commander 9.0 is out

Featured Replies

I'll be giving V9 a miss because I only bought 8.6 in the middle of August this year and they refuse to make any extra concession for very new customers, they can stick FSC where the sun doesn't shine, I will be getting Plan-G V2.0 when it comes out whether its payware or not.
****I will be sticking with the ver 8.6 also for now.I have had it for little over 1 year and got 1 "update to 8.6" right after I purchased it.In my case, I never use it for flight planning (plans). It works well for me .. aside from being denied further technical support on their forum I do not see many immediate needs for thier new version.BTW, does the new version 9.0 have problems needing fixing (service packs)?
Problem is however, is that you cna only choose to show STAR/SID .... OR ..... transitions. It does NOT allow you to see both, as in a FMC, where you start with the runway, then select Transistion, then finally the STAR or SID.They "claim" they will try to fix this... Hmmm, yeah right, like all the bugs we'v put up with for 5 years that STILL haven't been fixed ?
***Thanks for the information feedback .No good news about that item!It should do a complete route ...IMO, just like you would see on an FMC and the MFD display (MAP).

As I recall, when Level-D did their LD763 FSX version it cost $15 US for existing FS9 customers.

Great support and many free updates during the cycle of version 8 :( and now an upgrade discount :(
Bully for you, but you have owned FSC for a lot longer than 12 weeks, I feel like I've been dumbed on from a great height.

Cheers, Andy.

Well I said literally quote "sorry to hear that" :and that is really meant -)But I'm entitled to share my personal experience here to which is the opposite :-)Hope they will workout something for you?Cheers,

No they have basically told me to suck it up and pay the same price as every other previous FSC customer, they say its my fault for buying it when I should have known a new version was coming out :(

Cheers, Andy.

Well, technically you've paid for 8.x and you did get 8.x. I can't find anything wrong there. Of course, I could imagine more customer friendly ways here, no doubt, but I can't phrase a "they have to" out of this fact. The (first) wrong part comes up when you need support now on your still current product and they reject this wish with "buy 9.0!" as the only available answer. The other wrong thing is the fact that 9.0 is more 8.7 than anything else in my eyes.So you might come to the point to be happy with 8.6 and leave 9.x and the company itself out for a while.

:Tounge:better said 8.69......I'm sorry for you Andy. Especially you as a well known simmer which is always helpful and gives always great support.

Hi. Exactly, what is this program and how may I use it in while in FSX? There is much info about its capabilities I am missing how it is used. Is there a youtube demo? Thanks

Wilbert

You can load a trial version together with the manual on their site. Might be more useful than some video.

I upgraded to version 9.0 and can see improvements in the UI but there are not any new 'oh wow' features. The authors have provide free upgrades for 4 some years and as any one with a part time job will confess, they like to be paid. I purchased the upgrade with that thought in mind and there are some bugs. I get a 'Error 380' CTD when selecting 'Open the Approach Window' with a flight plan open. Also, I'm unable to save a flight plan from PAKT to PAJN as example. I get the message "No flight plan can be filed for airports without runways (PAKT)".Using FSC's Search airport feature for ICAO PAKT two airports (two PAKTs) are found. First bgl ADE-FTX-PFJ-PAK (no runway infor - scenery)Second bgl APC12120.bgl (has airport info)It attempts to construct the origin leg off the bgl that does not contain airport info. It will do the same thing with PASI as the origin. If during the flight plan process I pick the second airport it WILL save the flight plan. However, any attempt to add SID or STAR results in it defaulting to the first airport and unable to save. This is not an issue with FSC 8.6 using the same airports. Has anyone else seen this problem? Thanks.Bob.. :)

I have to play fair and amend my previous post about the still keystroke based UI. They've changed some things and you are now able to right-click and add some waypoints and stuff. Very subtile things but worth mentioning and surely a step forward. The Google Earth real-time position seems to work (at least in the non-trial version) but you only see a small dot of your current position in GE itself, so the somehow expected map integration like in Plan G is not present. Would have been nice to change the map view to a GE style like in Plan G though.

I think the problem at heart with FSC is that it was probably written using MFC. Still somewhat supported by Microsoft, It was suppose to simplify development by detaching the rendered window from the controls. Big mistake since it really prevents the program from having the controls we've now become acustomed to in more recent applications. So I'm not really inclined to upgrade at all, I would rather wait and even potentially pay more for a new application.

Can anyone see how one purchases FSC v9 at SimMarket? All I can see v8
I agree. But when I googled fsc v9 I reach the correct simmarket page.

Having used the demo, I must say I actually like it.Right Clicking to add ad-hoc waypoints is very useful, and the full transition tkaing you from the end of the STAR to the localiser is neat. There is a workaround of course, for the fact that you can't insert both STARS AND Trannnies..... simply, add the STAR you want manually - by adding waypoints, and then insert the transition.STARS rarely have more than a few points so it doesn't take long. At least then you have something that resembles the plan in your FMC !So, do your basic flightplan... add the SID.... and then export the plan to your PMDG or FS plan folder. Import into your GPS/FMC and you're good to go.THEN... add the Transition, and manually added STAR WPs to your FSC plan and save again as for example "Full Version" in your FSC plan folder, and you have the full plan that you EXPECT to fly. In the RW, FMCs are usually only programmed with the basic course, as the actual STAR is not known until approach. Once you do - or IF - you add a STAR, it will hopefully match your FSC plan, especially if you request the full ILS in Radar Contact, or "know" that VATSIM are using a particular approach that day.So, yes, it's a little in-elegant, but you can create a full FSC plan including both SIDS and STARS, together with Transitions, but a little manual "intervention" or common sense, is required !As for other enhancements, like VATSIM integrations... not sure yet as I haven't tried them. But for $30, the extra features are probably worth it... the Transitions are very useful, as is the right-clicking to add temporary ad-hoc WPs... .in v8 adding User WPs was a royal pain !!! i know these are only temporary, but ... it's so quick to do it... who cares ? !!!

I've used FSC for years and always liked it. Thus, I bought v9 when it launched. All in all, I'd have to say I'm disappointed. There really are very few major improvements and changes. The reason I upgraded to v9 was to get the Google Earth connection which, sadly will not work on my setup. The developers have just told me they have no idea why it doesn't work on some systems, and have provided no further support. To say I'm I little unhappy at their response is something of an understatement.Although I believe there is a language thing going on, the support on their forum can and does often come across as quite sharp and terse.Quite often when I've asked a question there, I've come away feeling like a school boy just having been told off :(
