November 5, 201015 yr This is an amazing concept for flying. Imagine looking down at the ground and viewing the scenery, then up in the air to the sky. Looking left to see out of the Captains window. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OHlaVNOKGMOf course this contraption is far too heavy, but as the designer has stated when these new wafer thin lightweight displays emerge soon, this could be a cheap practical way of achieving total immersion. As far as the user is concerned, coupled with track/ir, he has a complete visual 360 dome around him. He is also using a 120hz 3D monitor, which allows the user to have the monitor very close to his eyes. I would introduce a Collimated fresnel lens between the users head and monitor in order to reduce eye strain and increase the FOV to complete immersion. If I lived on my own I would build one of these. Anyone else? Keith Sandford.
November 5, 201015 yr Commercial Member Wow, that's a lot of gear to wear for a VR effect. He's using a TrackIR for the head tracking, which gives 95% of that same feeling without having to strap a monitor to your head. Still, you've got to give him an A for trying to innovate, I suppose... :( Bill Womack ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Visit my FS Blog or follow me on Twitter (username: bwomack). November 5, 201015 yr I can't resist saying this... It reminds me Saw movie. But the idea is innovative for sure! Bartłomiej Ender
November 5, 201015 yr Oh my god I'm just trying to imagine my wife's reaction if she came home one day and I had a monitor strapped to my head A+ to this guy for sure.
November 5, 201015 yr Author LOL, yes it does remind me of SAW the movie too. Nobody could ever do this if they are married and want to remain married, however, the concept is clever enough and beats, hands down, any HMD on the market at this moment in time. Better have a good chiropractor? LOl. Indeed. Imagine explaining to your Doctor how it is you pulled a muscle in your neck? Keith Sandford.

That's been my set-up for quite a while now, and it's fantastic. Just wondering if you're doing something similar. "Even Ozzy's wagging his tail again. Liam who?"
November 5, 201015 yr I would think you could find something here that would work just as well:http://www.vrealities.com/hmd.html
November 6, 201015 yr Hah this thing is great, it's almost as ridiculous as those hats which you can hang your iphone from to watch movies.I think the glasses are much more user friendly.
November 6, 201015 yr Author vrealities is the biggest ripoff ever. Do not be fooled by the word 'virtual'. None of the headsets currently available give anywhere near a respectable FOV, that's why he made his heavy contraption. Unless you wish to spend thousands on a military grade version. Keith Sandford.
November 6, 201015 yr Moderator Looking at that thing, I hope this guy has a good chiropracter.Haha, I was thinking the same thing. You would need to have the neck of a football player to wear it for a while without straining yourself, or a neck like the character in your avatar. A very simple task. Keith Sandford.
November 6, 201015 yr At the very end of the video when he's standing up it looks like he rigged up some sort of counterweight system... so at least it isn't all pulling forwards. What it really needs is some bungee cords hanging from a swivel on the ceiling. Was anybody else reminded of those arcade games with the monitor hanging from the ceiling that you kind of stuck your head in and it was supposed to simulate a tank turret?
November 7, 201015 yr If I lived on my own I would build one of these. Anyone else?Trust me, if you had one of these contraptions strapped to your head you WOULD be living on your own.Why do I have a sinking feeling that I'm going to turn on the TV at 2 a.m. one morning and this thing is going to be selling on an infomercial for $19.99. Who wants to bet that this would sell big at a Las Vegas Adult Film convention. With a couple more attachments in just the "right places" the possibilities are endless! :(
