Automated Tweaking and Tuning tool for FSX

Featured Replies

Dude!! I found some interesting things along the way here. So far the most dramatic change came from [bufferPools]

usepools=0

It's starting to look good again. Of course I have no add ons installed and I'm only doing the default 109 ranch flight in a friggin ultralight, but I'm now getting solid 40 FPS and it doesn't look so jumpy and "wavy" as it did before. It's starting to look hopeful because I was about to throw in the towel and call it quits. So what I've done is minimal so far but I'll recap on my tweaks. I scrapped the bojote CFG and went with default. I have the bufferpools thing. My affinity mask is 60..so it's using 4 of my 6 cores...I have the himem fix and the disable preload and that is it for the .CFG tweaks. I have my Nvidia CP set for FXAA, High quality textures, max pre-rendered frames set to 3 as opposed to application controlled, finally triple buffering and vsync on...not adaptive..yet. I also have the external frame limiter modified for 40FPS and my internal limiter set to 48FPS and so far it is pretty darn good. I'll keep posting here on any new developments. Hey Krister, don't give up man....Not if you love flying the sim as much as I do.

LOL No I am not about to give up. I also use FS9 - actually that is my main flightsim since I almost always fly on VATSIM - but FSX has PMDG737, AoA Cub and the Realair Dukes that I really don't wanna miss together of course with ORBX. I only wish I could find some consistency and not being night and day just because I have rebooted my computer or, it seems, made a pot of coffee...

I just formatted the disk and re-installed W7 64bit, made a mirror of the partition (before I installed my graphics driver) and will start experimenting. 10 years ago it would just be fun getting down and dirty with the hardware and OS, but with wife and 2 kids I just don't have the time.

Anyway, I'll try out your settings too!

This tool is seriously good, thank-you *******. Improved my FPS by 20%. Just bought a few of the ORBX sceneries and they were quite chuggy on my system until I put this tool to use. Absolutely brilliant.

Only one issue, however - I now see more frequent texture popup where that blue background file (bkg.bmp) from the FSX root directory appears momentarily either on cloud textures or ground/water as (I guess) it's loading the texture files in. Anyone else have this issue and know what the fix is? I'm presuming it's related to one of the settings for texture loading, but not sure which.

Thanks.

I would like to express my deepest thanks to you sir, my GTX570 went from struggling to hold 25-30fps at Auckland Intl with all sliders on medium, to 60, yes. 60 FPS with all sliders to max and 80% traffic density. Thank you very much once again! I am very grateful for this!

*******, where are you ? Good God, come back !

I have been having some annoying issues with FSX and flickering or something that is going on that makes like the terminal glass flicker or lines on the taxiway flicker I have a youtube video here:

Make sure to look at the terminals as this is what I am pointing out in this video

All of this starting to happen when I got my a new hard drive for my computer. It never did this before that. I had a 9800 GTX+ before and after the new hard drive update and now I have a GTX 560TI so I do not know if there is any issues with my graphic card but it was doing the same thing on both of the graphics cards.

Here is a picture of my graphic card setting:

Thanks for any help!!!

Try changing the Anti Aliasing setting from 8 x S to the option 2 x Sparse Grid Super Sampling.

On a separate and unrelated note based on your posted image, suggest you also experiment with the frame rate limiter - turn it off in nV Insp where you have it set on to 30 FPS and set the V Sync setting just below it to 1/2 screen refresh rate. Then set 30FPS as the frame limit inside the FSX settings menu. If you do this however, absolutely must also change (or just delete) the lines from your fsx.cfg that go like FORCE FULL SCREEN VSYNC= 1 and FORCE WINDOWED VSYNC=1 (change both values to 0) [sorry, not sure of the precise code lines].

Hi *******,

pretty nice tool. I tried it and got a good result with your tweaked fsx.cfg. FSX is running very smooth even with thick clouds and over water or cities, airports. I have set in FSX the FPS to unlimited and on my Geforce 330 M as recommended to 20 but I've still rates about 20 to 30. As long as FSX runs well I won't care.

Thanks again

Thanks very much, I sem to have improved performance - however I cannot open the 'fr Limiter' in my Windows 7 (64). Wondered if this me or the program?

thx...John.

Hi *******,

Thank you for developing and sharing your FSX Tweaking and Tuning Tool.

I have had great results and want to tell you how much I appreciate your effort and generosity.

My FSX performance is now over 200% better than before and has postponed the need to upgrade my computer. Which is fortunate as I can't afford a new one anyhow!

I intend to send a donation when I'm financially able.

Kind regards,

As I said to *******, the automatic Tuning tool did absolute wonders for my system. Which I consider a medium performance system as it's about 3 years old.

A couple of examples to illustrate;

  1. ORBX's FTX Brisbane International Airport, Queensland Australia (described by some as THE FPS Black Hole of FSX), had an original FPS of less than 8, then after tuning it went to about 20+ FPS.

  2. Flight One's Cessna Citation Mustang, a wonder to behold with it's glass cockpit showing every bit of information a modern aircraft can provide... At an enormous visual processing cost. It's FPS was about 8 to 12 with FTX's North American Blue scenery near Friday Island. After tuning it was 20 to 25 FPS.

With FPS increases of over 100% this tuning has enhanced my interest greatly. I can now enjoy "flying" in situations that were like watching a slide show, but now are smooth as silk (with the occasional "micro stutter").

My system is not top of the range, however I can attest to the viability of *******' methods.

I suggest that if you have an identical system (which is very unlikely), then your results should be the same. But the tuning system is flexible and takes into account individual system components.

I did subscribe to ORBX's CEO John Venema's recommendation that the oly effective "tweak / tune" was cold hard cash to buy the latest hardware if you wanted to improve the performance of FSX. Well, I guess he's wrong... At the moment, at least!

My system specs should be in the signature for this post, if not I've updated my profile with them for your information.

Cheers

Wayne

the config tool no longer works it goes to error
