Announcement regarding Flight Manual Availability

Featured Replies

If the manuals are the real day, they are worth a fortune. But with a price in the 500 US Dollar range they would be out of reach for many.

Richard-Yes- i may not have made this clear in my post: You can purchase the entire set, or you can purchase one piece... or you can purchase multiple pieces. The goal is to make it as easy for you to get what you want...
Thanks for the precision Robert.I will definately purchase the QRH and FCTM.

Was wondering if I will be able to pay via PayPal and if the entire 737NG manual set will be available for us in Europe to purchase? If so I will probably get the whole 737 manual!Rob Belach

Lucky you.I am going to have to wait to see the cost; however, this is the first aircraft that I have ever considered getting such a printed manual on. The Maddog is probably the only plane I have ever needed to go to the QRH for in air failiures, and that I have saved to my laptop for quick reference. If too pricey I do hope that a cheaper alternative for such an electronic only method are somehow available should the printed books end up being too pricey, but I do understand the issues and the rights involved in disseminating this information.

This is exciting stuff. Actual manuals. I have no doubt this would be an excellent at home simulation for real NG737 pilots to practice. Not so much the handling and flight characteristics aspect. But the actual system simulation side. Truly awesome. Good job!

I would highly recommend to everyone at a minimum to get the QRH if you like flying with failures enabled.. That has the book that I could not fly without on the MD-11X. I mean you could if you pause the game to go to Adobe and look at it (or you have it on your Iphone/Ipad. ...
No need to pause, I fly in windowed mode with two monitors. I dont see how anyone could fly without two monitors, I keep so much "trash" on my second monitor that is really necesary, like all the charts, vatsim client, vatspy, manuals etc. A secondary monitor is pretty much a must have if youre into flightsimming imo. Its alot quicker to search in a .pdf than to look through pages in a real life handbook as well

More monitors = less FPS.

Crap! There goes my budget. :( How long do these manuals typically stay available for purchase?

Captain,While you haven't yet indicated what the price for the NGX manuals will be, you had mentioned a while ago that the MD-11 manuals were very overpriced, and you expect the NGX ones to be more affordable. Is this still true?
Ron-I think that saying the MD-11 manuals were "overpriced" is a judicious use of misquoting. :( What I have said is that the pricing on the MD-11 manuals was too high for them to be a comfortable purchase for some users, and our hope has been to keep pricing in line on the NG manuals. We do not have final pricing yet, aside from the very large up-front fee for licensing (more than most new FO's make in a year) but I do not think these will be appreciably less expensive than the MD-11 manuals. We do not drive the production costs, nor the heft licensing fees required to provide this data to you- but I can tell you it is about 1/3 of what your average airline will pay for a set of manuals...

When you say 'Digital copies' I think, Piracy.... If they're only on paper it would be a lot harder to illegally distrubute them. And if there's one company I don't want to see being their products being pirated it's PMDG / Boeing.
Bastiaan-I agree with your point of view 100%. We are very careful to protect Boeing's rights, copyrights and intellectual property as if it were our own. Unfortunately, not all sim developers feel this way- but this might be part and parcel why Boeing has been so helpful to our development efforts...
Will these be included and printable with the NGX?
Daryl-The PDF versions will be included with the NGX purchase. Currently we are still negotiating some format restrictions, so I cannot tell you if they will be printable.I expect we'll reach a conclusion on this over the next couple of weeks.(Fortunately- I was a negotiator early in my airline career, so dealing with a company 4,000,000,000 times our size isn't a big deal. :( )

Boeing rocks for doing what they're doing. They can't be doing this for money because, come on. They would make such an insignificant amount from this and future projects compared to when they sell hundred million dollar jets. Maybe Boeing wants average people experiencing there awesome complex aircraft. And have found the perfect developer, PMDG. Anyway with what seems to be an even closer relationship between the two companies in the development of the NG 737 series. I think the 747 is a real possibility for a makeover. Also I believe the 767 should be created because the 767 out right now is many many years old. In fact why not do the whole fleet. I mean why not?

I hope this manual availability continues with the 777.

I like your way of thinking.
