I know it served in the Vietnam War,Al
That could be a bit misleading Al. I don't know what the F-14 did in Vietnam, but shooting anything down wasn't one them, so saying it "served" could be a bit misconstrued.

Cheers

It would only be misleading if it wasn't true, but since VF-1 and VF-2 took the F-14A on the type's first operational tour of duty on board the USS Enterprise in 1975, providing air cover during Operation Frequent Wind, then it most certainly did serve in the Vietnam War. 'Serving' doesn't necessarily mean having shot anything down, otherwise the vast majority of fighter pilots since WW2 wouldn't be classed as having served either, since most of them haven't shot anything down either. Because we know that the USS Enterprise wasn't sunk by any NVA aircraft, then it follows that it apparently served in its CAP role successfully.Al

I just spent some time on their site. If there is anything on sale for $5 I couldn't find it. Very confusing. If there's a $5 sale, it's buried too deep for me to find it.

Click on any aircraft and choose the option to 'buy it', that will take you to the store, look on the top left of the site menu for the various ranges (three different ones I think), and you should find the Christen Eagle for 5 bucks until it changes to the next one they are discounting.Al

Not too keen on the canopy shading from the VC...
Al, I just said something to that effect as well. Do you know how to manipulate the canopy texture so that it is more transparent using GIMP or a Paintshop sytle tool?I was thinking about asking on thier forum, but for some reason their forum is super laggy on my computer. Not sure why but it takes a long time for the pages to load when clicking on any forum topic.

Thanks for the tip. I purchased the Eagle. I had been looking for an indication of which aircraft was on sale and when. Having to go to each page individually seems to be a rather cumbersome way of doing it...but that's just me. I'm not in marketing.

This page is all you should need to check each day. Current "$5 frenzy" item is listed.http://www.irisfss.com/storefront/index.phpJohn
Yeah, the download link just appeared after an hour or so. So I am downloading now. Maybe the site was too busy or something and my order didn't update right away. Now that it working I will get the Christen Eagle as well and keep checking every day for the A-10 to go on sale for $5.
I ordered the CE 3 hours ago...no download link and support email gets kicked back as undeliverable. I hope this isn't a scam.

I tried altering the alpha channels on all the glass and fog textures but to no avail. I know that the model is supposed to simulate condensation in the cockpit and that the air conditioning controls are supposed to clear it when you turn them on, but they don't appear to be working or at least the canopy isn't demisting when I use that system. On the planes I fly, you just open the DV panel and wait a minute, but that's not an option on an F-14 LOL.Al

The same thing happened to me yesterday when I bought the F-14 and also the same thing happened when I tried to use the email address of [email protected] as far as it getting returned. It turns out that email address is only for Live Messenger. I emailed them at this address and they fixed it [email protected] . Apparently after you put the credirt card number and it processes, you need to press the confirm order button at the top of the page to get the download link immediatly. I bought the Eagle today and pressed that button and it worked fine.

LOL.Looks like the F-20 Tiger Shark is todays $5 special. I would consider trying it but it requires Acceleration to be installed so that leaves me out.

Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

Actually the F-20 does work in FSX even if you don't have Acceleration, the HUD won't work without Acceleration, but since there are standby panel instruments that give you the same info, that's not big deal. And it's perfect for policing miscreants in FSX:F20.jpgAl
