December 29, 201015 yr FSX...at version v12.I just spent about three hours in the Quest Kodiak having taken off from Campbell River, B.C. (CYBL) and following the coast down a few hundred miles, then heading inland over mountains, valleys, canyons, fjords...all of it.http://www.hellobc.c...ity/4551033.htm CYBL website for those interested in the area and airport.http://www.hellobc.c...mpbellRiver.htmWhat ORBX has done is made FSX virtual. Totally and believably virtual.I set the Kodiak Quest decked out as an amphibian for about 110-120 knots, at 2700 Ft ASL...and took in the magnificent detail of the land and topography below me. Having the Kodiak's moving map on-line, it was so very easy to navigate to, and fly over each SPB (Sea Plane Base), minor and major airfields and airports. I did touch and go's on many of them, with going to taxi for the ones that had much detail to view up close, before taking once more to the active.I had FSX set to just before Dusk..and then went on through Dusk with EMBseries (the version v075 created for MSFS) giving me fantastic luminance as the REX2 Over Drive splashed a fabulous sunset over the Rockies.Flying along the coast out of Campbell River, B.C. is a must for anybody that owns the PNW Triple Pack of scenery add-ons.It will simply allow you to believe once and for all...that you are TRULY flying over the actual real-world territory, rather than a computer Flight Simulator.I think that I might be setting myself up for quite a let-down when M.S.'s FLIGHT is released. My feelings...is that it will be like having a copy of FS9, rather than FSX enhanced with the ORBX PNW Triple Pack, and/or all of the great Aussie packs released to date. I guess the only thing that would convince me to purchase 'Flight' would be if it was a totally reworked and rock-solid, stable platform that will run any ORBX packs without one .dll fault and CTD of any kind. If not...I might just pass it by, and continue flying in FS12 (brought to you by ORBX).Cheers,Mitch
December 29, 201015 yr I agree and wish Microsft would hire Orbx to create the entire world like that, and PMDG and Level-D to create the "default" big iron! Carenado and others can do a few light aircraft. All for a package that would cost maybe 60-100. Would be totally worth it.
December 29, 201015 yr AMEN!!!!! Quad Core Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4 GHz, 1 GB nVidia GTX 275, 8GB DDR3 PC3-10600 MB/sec RAM, 300GB 10,000 RPM HD
December 29, 201015 yr oh man! orbx scenery in the whole world and pmdg and carenado for planes!!I would pay a lot more then $100I think they should do it in sectionssay orbx usa and pmdg heavy ironorbx usa and carenado, then I can pick what I want to fly and where I want to fly it in and then add on from there. Ciao!
December 29, 201015 yr Commercial Member I agree and wish Microsft would hire Orbx to create the entire world like that...Would you like that delivered on a 2TB HDD or perhaps on 40 Blu Ray disks??? Konrad
December 29, 201015 yr Author Would you like that delivered on a 2TB HDD or perhaps on 40 Blu Ray disks???If...the whole FSX world was converted to ORBX/FSX, I'd GLADLY pay for the pre installed scenery pack on that 2TB HDD, or a W.D. My Book USB 3.0 version. You BET that I would. But...I would want a rock-stable flight engine processing it.If M.S. Flight was an ORBX (as is) friendly flight platform that ran without fault...I'd buy that HDD loaded up without pause to think....How's that for an answer?!?!?:)Mitch'er
December 29, 201015 yr Yeah, I learned my lesson with FSX. I bought it right when it came out along with a new computer. It still took nearly 3 years (and another new computer) for me to enjoy it as much as FS9 thanks to the multitude of quality add-ons that grow by the day (Orbx, etc). Although I may buy "M$ Flight" when it comes out to see the features (I'm sure it will have certain positives over FSX),however, my expectations will be extremely low and I won't be investing in it at least right away. I couldn't agree more with FSXII as OP says and I think it could be FSIV by the time Flight comes out. I can't envision a switchover for at least 4 years here, perhaps longer. PS: FSXIII is just around the corner with NGX by PMDG! Can't wait. Spud I5 2500K @ 4.2ghz, EVGA GTX570, ASRock P67 extreme4, 80Gb Intel SSD, 1.5TB 7200, Corsair 750W, Corsair A70 cooler, 8GB (4x2) GSkill @ 1600, W7 64.
December 29, 201015 yr ORBX, PMDG and Fs2Crew have made FSX be the way I always wanted it to be.(I have spent rather more than $100 on add-ons though)

December 30, 201015 yr Very inspiring post, thanks! You mention "EMBseries (the version v075 created for MSFS"Is this possible to download somewhere? Thanks, and Happy New Year!
December 30, 201015 yr Author Very inspiring post, thanks! You mention "EMBseries (the version v075 created for MSFS"Is this possible to download somewhere? Thanks, and Happy New Year!-------------------------------------------------PFL, you can grab it off of one of the forums at:http://orbxsystems.c...orums/index.phpYou need to register to access them, if not a member already. Go through the forums and look for the EMBseries post with the links for that version, or do a search for EMB for MSFS. You'll find it.... There are two downloads; the program, and the manual for this edition. I installed it yesterday and it is much better than the one for the GTA game, that was the first one out. Happy New Year as well!!!
December 30, 201015 yr Moderator I have been the biggest laggard of all when it came to even buying an ORBX product. Then the other day someone here posted a note that they had a 33% off sale going so I decided to finally try something. On Tuesday I purchased NA Blue USA/Canada Pacific Northwest, Australia SP3 Download, and Orcas Island all for like $116. I haven't had a chance to really explore it much since I had spent quite a long time downloading it, installing then running a defrag which lasted about 6 hours.Late this evening I have a chance to fly around Orcas and I was truely amazed as screen shots cant really capture the feel as well as the sounds. I also did some flying at night around the small island and was impressed with the point lights and the evening ground textures, so much so that sitting in a dark room I almost felt as though I was really there. It was probably the most immersive flying experence I have had in a while. After the flight I decided to go ahead and take advantage of the sale again and get YBBN Brisbane, YBCS Cairns International, YMML Melbourne International V2, and YSCB Canberra Airport all for $88. Unfortunatley due to the size of the download which are average around 1gb for each airport I wont be able to download and install them until next week since I am going on vacation tomorrow. But I will be excited to get back and try it out.I probably would have bought more stuff for the PNW, but I am mostly into flying airliners which is why I got the bigger hubs for AU, however I will be excited to get KPDX when it comes out along with the free Portland city they are working on.I guess I wish I hadn't waited so long, but at least in doing so I got a lot of scenery for a little over $200.On a side note I am also excited to see what comes of the announcment the ORBX and PMDG are going to be working together in 2011. Below is the quote from the ORBX forum."In 2011 you're going to see Orbx and PMDG work together on product launches. We're excited as a team to be working with the PMDG guys and you'll hear more about this joint initiative soon!" - John Venema Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 30, 201015 yr I'm going to take advantage of the FlightSim Store sale and try some of the ORBX scenery. If you had to choose between Pacific North West, Pacific Fjords or Northern Rocky Mountains, which would you go for? Which is the most dramatic?Probably a difficult question..? :( ThanksIan
December 30, 201015 yr ORBX and PMDG coming together.Throw in the REX guys and that'd be like the holy trinity.
