February 5, 201115 yr Is it editable? The default ATC will only allow me to change my altitude during climbing/decending when I'm 200 feet away from the assigned altitude, sometimes that is just too rush for me and I want to adjust it to about 500 or 1000 so I can fly my plane smoother. (for exp, during climb it told me to climb to 8000f and will only tell me to climb higher or not if I am at least 7,800f,)Through the DME,ILS topic I can now know how to change/edit the approaches into FS9 ATC. Besides that, just want to know if I can do more than that. You could file VFR flightplans, then you're free to climb anywhere. And during IFR flights you can ask for a differnt cruise altitude. That's all. :( Switchboard - Track Your Simulator Add-ons - Throttle Quadrant
February 5, 201115 yr Yes it's irritating as hell, climbing in a 747 that starts to level off just as ATC gives further climb clearance. It's stuff like this that makes the default ATC totally useless really.
February 5, 201115 yr It is annoying but you just have to be quick. As soon as FS ATC starts to talk increase your selected altitude. Was this improved in FSX? My FS Videos
February 5, 201115 yr I sometimes think people are a little hard on the default ATC It might not be perfect .(i personally fly without it now, I may tune to a centre just just to get traffic warnings etc but its not because i think its bad ,a little talkative perhaps ,and I like it quiet ) but we are talking about a £50 (approx) simulator and what we get (especially in the case of FS9) is brilliant ,long lived, addictive, complex ,absorbing hobby......Fifty quid!!!! Even if you take FSX into account (and I bet most people bought it) it was still worth it. ( I bought it , tried it , and forgot it ,like most I was lacking in horsepower ) but tthe sim marches on and who knows what Flight may bring. I think MSoft sometimes deserves a little praise , after-all it gave us FS in the first place and continues to develop it., despite most people thinking after the ACES business that was the end.....Surprise Surprise it wasn't..... excellent. cheers Andy

February 6, 201115 yr It is annoying but you just have to be quick. As soon as FS ATC starts to talk increase your selected altitude. Was this improved in FSX?No. But you won't get any different with FS2002 either. Infact I've been well anticipating of a fresh copy of FS9 complete with VoxATC to go with it. Dave. February 6, 201115 yr Just set it to cruise altitude from the start. ATC will always instruct you to higher altitudes.Just set it to cruise altitude from the start. ATC will always instruct you to higher altitudes. On the right track, but you'll bust your assigned altitude, if you get a frequency change right before you reach it. What I do (In FSX but it will work in FS2004 too.) is specify an altitude about 1K higher, this way if I do get a freq change, I can quickly adjust back to the assigned alt. Else I can assign the new altitude before the aircraft begins to level off, giving me a smooth climb. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
February 6, 201115 yr I learned a trick from someone here on the forum. Set your altitiude 200 ft. higher then the assigned altitude so the aircraft won't start to level off before to get the instruction, ie: if your assigned altitude is 8,000 ft. I set it for 8,200ft, that allows me to get the next assigned altitude before the aircraft starts to level out. works for me. Bill

They certainly gave us far more than our "money's worth" and I am constantly amazed how all these years later it still has the power to captivate. The development team deserve praise for one of the most successful simultions of all time. But I do see the default ATC as an example of the arrogance that led to the FSX/ACES debacle. Customers had been pleading for two or more years for an improvement on FS2002 ATC. So I was really suprised and disappointed when they announced that they were making no changes at all for FS9. With the expertise and resources those guys had, just a few days work would probably have fixed some of the most common complaints at the very least. I was one of the AVSIM review team who got FS9 several weeks before it was released on the market and that was a common reaction among many of us who did the team review.

And speaking of the money's worth: I got FS9 in 2009 for only 15 Eur!Due to my PC hardware I haven't been able to see the whole graphical power of this game yet. February 7, 201115 yr Author Thanks for all your comments. Apparently I'm not too hard on Fs9 because of the price/performance that it has given me through recent years. And yes,I'm doing some tricks that some of you are doing, set the altitude higher than the assigned. I usually set it 500 feet higher :biggrin:I'm going to upgrade to a faster computer which IMO run FSX well but I will still stick with Fs9 for a long long time :( No. But you won't get any different with FS2002 either. Infact I've been well anticipating of a fresh copy of FS9 complete with VoxATC to go with it. Dave. @Dave: is VoxATC similar to PFE or Radar Contact? It's like a brand new sim, now that I can run anything, anywhere, with all the options maxed out.
