The new Avsim format

I personnaly did not like the looks of the new format. I liked the old one much better. It seemed too cluttered and complicated to me. I know that it time I'd get use to it, but I was happy to have it like it was. My "2 cents" worth. jerrycwo4

Jerry, let me show you to the door. Ha! I'm too funny!

The old avsim home page and library is back!! :(

For a variety of reasons, we have decided to revert back, temporarily, to both our web site design and our former library. We are going to spend some time refining both the new web site and the library. We cannot estimate when those efforts will be completed. We expect a new web site to come online before the new library does. We want to ensure that we have most, if not all, of the functionality that exists in the previous library is present in the new library when brought back online. Please bear with us as we put some more effort into making the AVSIM site everything that our users have come to expect.

Hello,

For a variety of reasons, we have decided to revert back, temporarily, to both our web site design and our former library.
Also .. take some screenshots of the site and the library .. since it will be in some times ... collector items :( Regards.bye.gifGus.

Yeah, too sad it will be only for some limited times. But I really want to know the reason they are "eager" to change to the new website while there aren't any complaints about the old one :(

I agree with Jerry completely. What is it with the current design that this new one is supposed to fix? Learning curve aside, I found the new one disorganized and hard to navigate unlike the current one which is very intuitive. Jim

+3 If it aint broke...you know...don't fix it!But like most guys we are going to tinker anyway. The old one is fine, the new one seems jammed up in a small area, blah, blah, blah.Hammer anyone?

Not knowing of any changes, I logged in this morning and it just felt like "pulling on an old pair of warm slippers". :(

I guess I'm one of the rare few who actually liked the new format. I liked having all that informationdisplayed like that. It was sort of like a newspaper format, perhaps that's what they were going for ?Only thing I didn't like was the advertisements. They clearly looked out of place in the positions they were placed in.But it definitely appears I was in the minority on this one.Regards.Ernie.

The new design is horrible and cluttered. And, why oh why do I have to all of a sudden have to start logging in again(after my username and password are stored on my PC) when the format changed. Please remember the old adage, if it aint broke, don't fix it!

+1 for the "old" format also from me..:)

I do not understand that mania for CHANGE.Why changing something that has worked OK for years ? Good to see the old format is back.

Glad to see the old site back, albeit on a temporary basis. Although Avsim had previously always been the first site I would open each day, when they changed it I started looking at FlightSim.com as it was familiar and easier to find my way around. However now that the old Avsim homepage is back, it feels like being 'home' again and is certainly much easier to navigate. I think the new homepage, whatever it is like when it returns, needs to be made a little more user-friendly although, in saying that, I have to admit that with a bit of effort I was gradually starting to find my way around the new site!Bill

It is a trait of human life that we like to stay in the rut that we are used to and resist change. The present website is somewhat dated now and although I am not a designer I think that we do need a more modern design.Just imagine if airlines still used the designs of the 1950s and 1960s!! We wouldn't have the wonderful array of fantastically painted aircraft that we can see around the world today.David

I think it's great that we are to get a new site but I found information overload on the cramped home page. Three rows of information boxes with flashing ads cramed in is far too distracting and confusing. I like the present wider look that you can roll slowly down and have chance to soak up the news. With the smaller sidebars in small print with lighter colours it's a lot less agressive on the eye. I am pleased they are looking at changing things and sure that with our input it will turn out OK.pve
