Anyone with specs similar to mine care to comment on performance? Dell XPS 710Intel E6600 Quad core 2.4ghz4GB RAMNvidia 8800GTX 768MBWindows 7 Professional (64bit)
I have a Dell XPS 720 with a E6850 3.0Ghz 4GB, and a 9800GTX 512MB and are having similar low VC performance, as those with like systems. It seems this model is optimized for the latest I5 and I7 systems. In addition because of my limited video memory, I'm having trouble (which I expected) with the Hi-Res textures. It causes extended texture load times because of their size, and worse the introduction of the blurries, where I didn't have them before. Like I said I expected this, because of my specs. I had the same issue with the McPhrat Textures on the CS757. This forces me to lower the resolution of the textures, both external, and VC. to 1024 (Using Photoshop). Result was actually crisper VC textures (Probably because the original textures didn't completely load and display in the first place.) It doesn't help frames that much, but the blurries are gone again, which was my intention. I get about 13 FPS on the ground and about 20 in the air. That is though with scenery extremely dense, autogen dense, and 100% UT2 Airline Traffic. So if you don't use traffic, or can live with less scenery detail, you should get higher. BTW The E6600 is a Dual core processor not a Quad core, I had a Gateway with a E6700 2.66, but was toasted by lightning. The bad thing about the Dell, is you can't over clock them. I won't make that mistake again!!! Overall though I do pretty well with it in FSX!

Thanks

Tom

I have to say that I'm getting pretty good performance with the NGX. Maybe my CPU isn't the E6600 because it's definitely quad core. Windows 7 describes it as "Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @2.4ghz". You're absolutely right about Dell as well - will never buy them again because you can't overclock! I've no problems with the VC or blurry textures thankfully. It simply looks amazing! Unlike yourself, I've removed autogen and because I fly online, I've set air traffic to 0.
Oh I didn't know there was any laws on how to report frames..........tough guy this is why these forms are polluted.
Well it seems like something you might want to research before you post about it, otherwise you are the one polluting the "forms". But honestly, I was only stating that for others' benefit, not as a rip on you. Please do not take it personal. Money%20Eyes.gif

G'day everyone, just wanted to share another option for improving fps.I spent a bit of time trying different settings within FSX...(I guess all comps will be different, also set the target fps to 99 in fsx settings), added to that I have also set in the ngx fmc...menu-options-performance (i think) the 3d targets to 99..all 4 of them...(i left the 2d at 15)This seems to have made the best improvement along with the fsx settings...I am now getting an improvement of about 5-6 fps which doesn't sound like much but it is enough to make it run smoothly....this is at night time with all lighting on plus HUG plus both capt and FO displays working and approaching the runway.Hope this helps some others.I'd almost given up hope and parked the plane until i get some new hardware...but not now! time to stand em up!!

Do you mean by adjusting that in the FMC? Just have a small other question... I have a laggy computer so it explains. In the exteriorview I have about 20 FPS locked, but when changing to VC, I have about 12 FPS for about 10 seconds, and then it goes down to about 8 FPS. 10 FPS is still fine for me, but below that number, it becomes annoying. Why can my computer handle the VC for a few seconds at 12-15 FPS and then drops to 8? All textures are already loaded so it doesn't have anything to do with that I guess. Have done everything explained in the intro, so guess there should be another explanation... Thanks in advance!!

Yeah, I'm sure I would get better frames without AI or autogen but I like a realistic level of traffic, and 3D ground scenery (For when I'm on the ground). I believe the current Dell systems are overclockable but I would make sure before going Dell again. Otherwise there systems are pretty good. My guess is you have the Q6600, which is a 2.4Ghz Quad Core. The EXXXX series were dual core.

Thanks

Quite amazing FPS even on my lame Toshiba laptop... I got sustained FPS around my external limit of 30 for most of the tutorial flight. The stutters I did get were nothing I can't solve with a fresh OS install.
I'm assuming You got those FPS in VC, right? Do you use any add-ons or just default MicrosoftFSX scenery, also what graphical settings are You running with? Thank you in advance.

Yup, go to your FMC, press menu, then PMDG setup, then options, then performance ...you'll see your frames for VC on the right...type 99 in scratch pad and then lines select key r1,r2,r3,r4....give it ago...see what happens
Gents, Caloom, I found the link on my email below via Google. There are several links that will give you access the Frame Setter, and it also tells you how to set it up as the actual programmes instructions arte poor or my accurately my IT skills need somebody to spell it out. I answered some of my own question, I should have Googled it in the first place. The following link will give you a guide to FSX setup but also provides the links to FPS Setter and more importantly how to use it. http://cheyennepilot...tup/fsx-tuning/ I saw an increase of about 5 to 10 FPS. I also tried setting Autogen all the way to the left, I had an increase of 5 FPS but lost the gates at LOWW so have reset it to normal. Hope this helps. I am still not brave enough to overclock my system!
I have used it and with the NGX on the system below am getting a minimum of 14 or 15 FPS at Gatwick Extreme (UK2000 by Gary Summons). I do have all of the FSX tips installed and have run ******* Boyote's fix to my FSX Config. As I have said before I do not like the idea of overclocking I am worried that I would blow the PC up! I have Autogen set to normal as any less I lose some of the walkways etc at terminals. I had set the traffic to none as I was rammed when I was working through the Tutorial, if you do it by the numbers you block the runway for a while! It is an impressive aircraft and enjoyable to fly. It has been a long time coming but the proof is in the final product, I have not experienced any glitches yet, thank you PMDG. Hope this helps.

Gentlemen, adjusting the FPS in the FMC won't help you. The VC FPS you see in the FMC is for your cockpit display refresh rates, not the sim. I'm having the same issue, low FPS in the VC, despite having an i7 920 at 4GHz and an EVGA GTX 580. However... as soon as I switched to unlimited frames per second in the sims settings the problem was solved. I suspect that with testing stutters may appear though at unlimited. So the answer, does seem to be to set unlimited in the sim, and use the external frame rate limiter to lock, and thus avoid stutters. I've not used the limiter before, will have a bash tomorrow. Oh I didn't know there was any laws on how to report frames..........tough guy this is why these forms are polluted.
Its nothing to with 'laws' its to do with the fact that when the sim is paused the reported FPS will be significantly higher than when its running. Same thing with 'slew' mode.

Just took a look at it myself and in VC I am only getting about 13-15 fps on the ground in ATL with the basic scenery. Have the limiter installed and my fps set up to unlimited. Ran all the tweaks found in the introduction as well. HMM Im thinkin either my system just sucks or my system just sucks LOL. You know guys, all this talk about framerates is completely useless unless a one to one comparison is made. I mean come on, what does it mean to say "I get 30 fps at YMML" or whereever. It means absolutely nothing. The only time it is of any worth is when you post your complete sytem specs along with your complete FSX control slider settings, what aircraft you're flying (whether in VC or or external view) whether parked aircraft. Then and only then is it worth comparing, otherwise it's a complete load of b******s. Besidesi if we turned off the framerate counter and just enjoyed flying we'd be a far lot happier instead of becoming downhearted because we don't appear to get the same framerates as someone else who is counting frames in an entirely different scenario! wink.png
