How did this make it out of testing?

I promise you if you are running an i7 processor with a 9800gtx your system you have a huge bottleneck and its the video card. Think of it like a huge hose with a kink in it. How do you get the full flow? Remove the kink ie video card. I have a gtx 580 and I can tell you its awesome and I highly recommend it with an i7 processor. I, like others here get smooth flight everywhere with the ******* tweaks. I hope I helped. Guthrie Z
Sorry, I have to disagree. Using ATI's Memorytracker for the past 3 years, I've never seen any PMDG addon use more than 410 MB. Do a search for "bottleneck" here on AVSIM and you'll see that FSX uses the processor waaaay, waaaaaaay too much. It's well known that the graphics are processor bound. If you want to see it for yourself, set the affinitymask to your second, third. or fourth core only. (See *******' discussion as to why you should avoid the first core). Half a FPS, anyone? It's actually funny and sad at the same time. Oh, I use the PMDG a/c 99% of the time. I only use the default a/c for missions. Dan 'lensman' DavisonIf you index from zero, make that list core 0, core 1, core 2, and core 3.

That must be a really cheap simulator, our simulators at Lufthansa costs easily 20mil Euro. Sven

Good point :) And what is the processor so busy doing. ? If you are a Software geek, fire up SysInternals "Procman" when FSX is running, and open Pandora's box :) Maybe someone can tell me why the PMDG737 is so obsessed in looking for, and loading a "Beer Barrel" !!!( Did someone forget to set a GUID Hypnotized.gif ) It's not even OCTOBERFEST yet Geoff
which software do you use for overclockingvivek
Actually that depends on your motherboard manufacturer and model. For instance my Gigabyte EP45 UD3R LGA 775 board came with a software utility that lets you overclock from the OS and it actually works very well. But bios tweaking has always been the norm.At the xtremesystems website you will find lots of overclocking info. Many people are running these Sandy chips at over 5ghz but its gonna take some homework.Chris S

Chris you are right but that program does not work very well compared to a bios overclock, been there done that all I buy is gigabyte motherboards, you have a problem they answer the phone also :)

I can agree with you on that cause I upgraded from a 9800 GX2 to a GTX 480 and had a nice jump in FPS to where I was able to turn all my sliders up to max except water. That and making sure hyperthreading was off helps
Agreed. My moves were from 280 to 480 to 580. I had increased performance each time and also reduced or eliminated problems like the G3d.dll freeze. BTW, late edit, but my comment should have read "each time," not "Rachel time." iPad autocomplete can be bizarre sometimes...

You have every right to purchase the jumbo size toilet paper rolls at the store but that dont mean the rolls are going to fit in the holder once ya get home?
DANGIT!! THAT'S what I've been doing wrong all these years and why the roll sits on top of the toilet tank. sad.png

looking at your computer spec i see you are running a ir 920 cpu my advice is ditch and fit at least an ir970 you will suprised with the result, expensive but worth it in the long run, it will also keep your blood pressure down regards frank cann

What is the difference between the 970 and the 920? Aren't they both comparable in terms of how they can be overclocked? I figured that only the i7 2500 or 2600 would be any different. And suggesting that I spend $600-$750 to upgrade and STILL be stuck with a 9800 GTX GPU is not too cool. I would say sure if you are willing to flip the bill.

chrisrunning fsx has always been a compromise , between performance or eye candy hardware is catching up with it and so we get dragged along with it, pmdg have produced a very good product and it needs a good rig to do it full justice Just over a year ago i had the i7 920 fitted the frame rate was low and constantly crashed with over heating I upgraded to the i7 970along with a new gpu and m/b , Idont expect developers to dumb down to suit what i can afford i meet them more than half way I dont overclock, i us extreme airports ,with rex, aes, andfs2crew rc4 ,y frame rate is approx 20/25 on the ground flying its 50/60 and that is where most of the action takes place. i dont want to teach you how to suck eggs move the sliders to the left.Years ago capt sim produced the c130 for 2004 it was a frame killer i never did fly it f cann intel i7 970 @3.20GHz windows 7 64 bit 12. gb ram geforce gtx560 Ti GA-X58A-UD7 MB

I honestly can't understand how this product made it out of beta testing, with the supposed wide ranging beta team, with poor performance like this. How is it possible that they didn't comment on the fact that flying this in any sort of scenery or bad weather grinds the show to a halt? It is INCREDIBLY frustrating to know that in the 5 (thanks Heffron for correcting me) years since FSX release, I have FINALLY gotten my computer to the point where it would run things at an acceptable level. Technology has finally caught up. And now, PMDG goes and throws us all back in to the stone age.-Chris Virgilio
You're only in the stone age if you can't adjust your machine to prioritize what you want the sim to do now. My machine is maybe 60% of what you're system is capable, and the NGX is running pretty dang good on this machine--can't imagine what having all that horsepower you enjoy would be like. Maybe you're not optimized well. In terms of raw processing power, I think you are looking at 150% of what I can do. And I have all the usual addon scenery and run pretty strong settings inc clouds out to 110m, full density, etc. I react to your comment because it's completely up to YOU what you want to try to make FSX do. If you think thru it, we are way better off if we can accept the reality that the base package is robust enough to allow developers to release software that will still be relevant 3 years from now, even if it causes you to have to decide how you want to prioritize the sim now. I like this model way better than having something that will run fine today, but 2y from now will be underkill by comparison to what machines can do then. Noel

I get 35 fps at gate 22 YMML with Orbx even 25-28 at YBBN Orbx Go sort you install out or your PC Calling PMDG liars is not going to help you in anyway
Must be something about Gate 22 at YMML even I can get 30 plus with my unclocked i7 960 there but move to runway 16 and it is down to high teens and that is with most items disabled in the orbx YMML dialogue box and 20% traffic. Look in my limited experience so far the NGX performance is comparable to the MD11 as promised perhaps a tad lower but close. I would expect that with any near high end computer you will get more than acceptable performance from the NGX if you stick to default airports and scenery. Likewise with any near high end computer you will get great performance at the various 3rd party addon airports from Orbx,FSDT etc if you only fly default aircraft. But combine high end aircraft such as the NGX and high end airports and there are going to be issues as described by the OP. Posts in reply stating that they get 50 fps are pointless unless there is some indication of the type of airports/scenery used. Bruceb

I don't have any problems on my rig. Everythings runs great. Constant 45+ FPS.

Not sure if anyone else suggested this, but I recently had a real performance issue with a well known WW1 combat flight sim. The guy in the computer shop sold me an air duster for £10. I thought I'd been conned, but went along with it. You know what - I blasted the life out of all my fans - especially the GPU - and it works better than ever now. Worth a try!!Tristan
