AoA's First Training Video Now Available

Featured Replies

Is there anything in the videos that can't be understood from reading the 3000+ pages of the manuals? Not to be critical, but is it worth paying money for someone to show how to turn on the landing lights, etc..Am I missing something? Don't get me wrong, the initial video Nick did was nicely done, but are these guys Airline pilots, or just a couple of guys with private pilots licences giving instruction on 737's based on the manuals we already own ? Again, I don't mean to knock it before I've seen it and I normally like to these types of tutorials, but the way it's being done just seems to be in a fashion that keeps subscription dollars rolling in for basic information found in the fcoms.

" A picture speaks a thousand words "A picture combined with video and audio speaks probably 10 times more. !The Boeing FCOMS are dull and boring and anything but intuitive.I would have loved if the NGX and AoA videos were around when I was first training to be an airline pilot. The young guys today should be using all this great technology and knowledge for their own benifit. And, it is all SO cheap to buy !!Fred.

I agree about the fcoms being boring to read. Perhaps I am passing judgement too quickly. There are so many videos & tutorials on YouTube . I guess I am just trying to justify yet another subscription over tutorials that are free on youtube .

They approach the material from a different angle. All the tech stuff is there but they also explain why it works that way & typically show a few examples of how it could be affected in flight. The practical approach helps people pick it up more quickly. They're also drawing from the maintenance manuals in this case, so there may indeed be some things not covered (or at least not covered clearly) in the fcom's & fctm.Nick's walk through videos were completely improvised with little or no editing. If you thought they were good, the actual training is 10x better in terms of quality & clarity.Edit: Honestly I think it'd be great pr if they released 2 or 3 of the groundwork videos for people to see & judge for themselves, even past customers. It's way better than the 744 training, which is also well made.

Perhaps I'll give it another look. I did purchase their level-d video couple of years ago and I just remember not being all that thrilled with it. I think if it were being produced by actual retired or active airline pilots who can add some real life perspective from a professional standpoint I would be more apt to fork over my money. We'll see. I'm sure I'll give it a shot at somepoint.

I've noticed a big step up since the 744 training. I get the impression their ngx training is meant to be to them what the ngx is to pmdg, a flagship product, so to speak.

I was looking around the website a bit more and now realize that everything except for the Line Work is a one time fee, unless you get the Captains Package, which includes 3 months of Line Work. I was under the impression that everything was subscription based, which was a turn off for me, The thought of paying for a subscription and not knowing how many videos would be realesed each month had me scratching my head as to why anyone would subscribe. So I must apologize. Knowing what I know now, I will most definitely buy the product.Although I might wait until more videos are available. Does anyone know how long the first video is? Is it all on lighting? Just curious as to how much more is discussed than what the preview video shows.

Be careful Mark. Right now the AoA NGX training is at a discounted price because it is not anywhere near complete. Once a lot of videos get released, the cost will most likely go up to the full price. If you intend on purchasing it anyway, I would get in while the cost is discounted.

Mark,I will answer your questions. You are right there is only two products at AoA that are monthly subscription fee: 737NGX linework and Aviator Pro. The linework haven't started, yesterday we got a 4 pages flow that was given as extra for linework that was quite nicely done. I do not know exactly when linework will start but the three month you get with the captain package will start when they start releasing videos or flight for this section.Aviator pro is on a completly different subject and have over 80 videos.Right now only part of the groundwork is completed. Flightwork will start after groundwork.Groundwork included so far:Lighting 18 minCaution & Warning 25 minEmergency Equipment 16 minFire Protection 30 minIce & Rain Protection 30 minGPWS 54 minThat is it for the released videos, people complain that the rate is too slow which is understandable because there is still a lot to cover. I personaly never saw something going that much in depth. It is not just info from the fcom, but also maintenance manuals and a bunch of other sources and the presentations make it clear to understand and remember. I took the 737NG CBT from Boeing and I'm learning a lot more from AoA than the CBT and my Fcom study. From personal interaction with Chris Palmer I can tell you that he is trying to improve the release rate. It is not easy to keep the motivation and energy to produce something when there is internal issues to solve and when customer are giving you a verbal beating every day but everybody paid for this training so he will deliver what he promised and he is doing his best to improve things.Like you said Groundwork and Flightwork are one time fee and even linework with the captain package is a three month subscription that is not renewed after that. So I decided to get the captain package and now that I paid my one time fee I'm just waiting for contents to be out. I don't feel ripped off by the fee because it was clear from the begining that the training was not complete (yes there was some miscommunication about it at first) and it is not complete by far. I'm eager to learn and I'm waiting for each new videos with excitement. I would like new videos more often but I'm not paying every month because I paid my fee and will get the whole package. I just need patience.
