October 12, 201114 yr Next generation 737s have been around for years and the NGX is supposed to be an extremely close rendition of the aircraft, so they had plenty of material to work with before the PMDG NGX was released, that excuse just doesn't float. So you rather them to do all the pre production on an older model and get it all wrong on the newer version and than find out they have to do it again. October 12, 201114 yr So you rather them to do all the pre production on an older model and get it all wrong on the newer version and than find out they have to do it again."Older model"?? The 800 was launched on Sept. 5, 1994, rolled out on June 30, 1997, and was in service by April 24, 1998. Boeing rolled out the new CFM56-7BE in April 2009. The 900 rolled out on July 23, 2000 and was in service by May 27, 2001. AoA had plenty of NG soucre material to work with. I have no idea what you mean by "older models".
October 12, 201114 yr Commercial Member Does it really matter when AOA got the material or started production of the NGX. They have the model that has been designed by PMDG and will work from that. If they had done something that was not modeled in the NGX our wonderful group whiners would not give it rest, and whether it is an excuse or not who gives a flying fruit cake. For those of us who are capable of reading and comprehending the FCOM will do just fine until AOA gets their portion done. The AOA package was not part of the PMDG package so there was not set time limit of their release, and for those of us who have interest in the package upon completion will, I am sure, purchase it. So you have not even bought the AOA training pack so its got nothing to do with you yet. I've spent $80 and have 3 videos to show for it in 9 weeks. I wish I hadn't put so much faith in AOA and bought the product they day the NGX was released. I asked AOA for a refund after they had the cheek to ask me yesterday via email to review the MD11 training product I bought from them many moons ago. They say no you cant have a refund because its more than 30 days since I paid for the product. How am I supposed to make my informed choice in 30 days if there is nothing to show for it. I don't think I got anything at all in the first 30 days apart from access to a forum, which has posts deleted as soon as you post anything negative, great value for money, not!! They haven't even had the decency to reply to my follow up email telling them that if they don't offer a refund I'll be lodging a complaint with Paypal. Cheers, Andy.
October 12, 201114 yr The big problem with that long production cycle is that by now I can properly use all the systems and know why I do so, and I can even deal with abnormal occurences appropriately. I can do [...] I would have expected some level of pre-production. If some scripts were already complete before the release of the NGX. the audio recordings could have been done in advance, the general layout storyboarded and some preliminary editing could have been completed, so that only the actual footage had to be recorded and fit into the edit. Many movies are being edited like that these days, with pre-visualization segments as placeholders for the actual footage. That way it would have been possible to release the lessons in much quicker succession, even if rewrites would have been necessary for some reason. I agree 100% with you. I was posting something similar (that I cannot understand why they didn't prepare much more in advance) on the site of AOA, but the guys from AOA deleted all of the older posts. For me it is unacceptable if someone is deleting posts, because I get the impression that someone has to hide something. But that is a different discussion. And I still stick by the statement, that the 2nd video (caution and warning) is simply a boosted up Powerpoint presentation. Sure, it looks very impressive with the brushed background and the words flying around from the left and right side. But from 0:00 to 2:30 and from 12:10 to the end, the video contains almost only text. And the speaker is simply reading this text - often word by word. This is no good presentation style, and I am able to read the text on the slides by myself. In short: I am interested in informations about the plane and in learning. Not in a high end and shiny video production. I do not agree with others who say that the second video is "brilliant" (it is brilliant in terms of video production, but not brilliant in terms of learning/training). I really hope that things are getting better. The latest update from AOA from 10/10/11 is promising, but until now, they didn't fulfill my expectations. Martin Renner
October 12, 201114 yr Commercial Member Andy,You are correct, I have not bought the package as yet, since I wanted to see what they will actually bring to the table. At this time it would be easier to run through the FCOMs rather than sit and watch videos, however for the projects that I have lined up this year the AOA package may be a good supplemental training tool I am in no position to speak on behalf of AOA's business practices, and I can understand some of your frustration. October 12, 201114 yr Sorry you are correct 2 videos in 9 weeks, its worse than I remembered Cheers, Andy.
October 12, 201114 yr First off:The AOA traning for PMDG 747-400 was very good. The training for PMDG MD11 was just excellentand the best training tool I´ve ever used, (even if I think I could handle the ac rather good, before the AOA training was released) Bought the MD11 training way before all sections were finished (and that took a long time) Since i now have learned my lesson, "never buy a product before it´s finished" I haven´t bought any AOA NGX training yetand won´t do so, before it´s finished. Also I haven´t bought the NGX yet, still waiting for the SP1. In the meantime I´ve picked up a lot here in the PMDG forum, tips, tricks, bojote´s cfg trix, HighMemfix, Uiautom....you now what etc. Also I noticed all those going through a lot off frustation with the NGX and diffr version of the Hotfix. Ok, HF4 seems have helped a lot. So....therefore I still wait for the SP and fly the MD11 in the meantime instead. I think that´s a good decission. At last: The AOA trainings are really really good, to bad though, it has to take such a long time before finishing. / Leffe Leif A Mikkelsen **********************
October 12, 201114 yr Andy, Even if I'm a strong AoA supporter I have to agree with your frustration.I'm not at all looking for a refund but looking at the situation from an external point of view. The 30 money back garantee is not very good customer service when you bought the product like me from day one and you spent your 30 days waiting for some content.Anyway just my 2 cents and I'm happy with the product and to wait for the rest of the training. But in somebody else shoes I don't think it's fair that AoA stick to their 30 days policies when they didn't stick to their release planning and therefore didn't fullfill customer expectation. Though I know Chris being an honest and fair man so maybe shout him an email to see if you can solve this privately with him. www.jeremylaporte.com
October 12, 201114 yr I'm still awaiting a reply to my support email response. The first email stating my grievance I had a reply within a couple of hours, I was told no refund would be forthcoming because I had passed the 30 day refund period. I then replied and mentioned the refund again and said I'd contact the payment provider with a complaint if they didn't change their mind RE the refund, its been 12 hours now since I sent that email. Cheers, Andy.
October 12, 201114 yr i am really frustated by the aoa crew, this will be my last product, they really messed up, i also dont like the altitude from chris in the forum, if someone dont like the way how they present their stuff, everyone is free to have his own opinion... and it does look like a powerpoint presentation, its okay, but i have seen much better! best regards, Michael K N I T T L PC Specs: i7950@4ghz, ASUS PTV2 Deluxe, nVidia GTX580, 12GB DD3 1600 Corsair Controls: Saitek Yoke & Rudder Pedals, TackIR5
October 12, 201114 yr Well I take it back, I just got a refund from AOA so I am now happy with that result, great customer service, thank you. Cheers, Andy.
October 13, 201114 yr He can´t, so there is absolutely no value to his statement! The Caution and Warning video was very good, informative and to the point. And saying that AOA didn´t do any preparation beforehand is simply not true. Nick has been working on the NGX training for over 8 months now! People´s attention span isn´t very long these days and if something doesn´t deliver right away they discard it, I am willing to give them time to speed things up and already there is progression in that the next video will be out much faster than the last ones.
