AoA's First Training Video Now Available

Recommended Posts

Sorry for being realistic, but those guys do have RL jobs. They are not some big production house that can churn out videos at the drop of a dime. They do great work as I own about all their videos and I miss my aviatorpro fix, but for those that are looking for a concrete schedule should be forewarned.
Realistic you say? When you pay for "anything" that's realistic: RL jobs you say? Well consider this, if you've accepted wages for a "job" then, you aremorally obligated to to deliver: if there's a hiccup then, you sure as hell better let me know about, AND they have done so.. Now, I'm an old infantry soldier with many ambushes so, I can wait. I have kept track of things at AOA and accept their reasonings,But, truly, "Sorry for being realistic, but those guys do have RL jobs" is not a logical response to why there's a delay.

Your not wrong there, but past products have been good less the grating voice of the original narrator. I just hope the first video isn't an indication of why the videos are going to total 52 hours, that first video could have been cut in half time wise if he quit repeating himself. There really is no need to repeat ones self that's what God invented the rewind button for.

Cheers, Andy.

i found the video presentation quite good, dont know what u meant by the grating of the narrator found nothing wrong in understanding him. Maybe you could do a better job of narrating than nick, and found that doing a summary at the end was good which meant that i didnt need to use the rewind option.

Please read what I said and not what you wanted me to say, I was talking about previous training material for other aircraft RE the grating and not Nicks narration. I was one of the people who asked months ago if Nick could do the narration for the NGX and now you know why.I'd still rather them not waste time repeating what has already been said and hence increasing the length of the videos unnessaarily, I've not paid $80 for reruns, the first video seemed to be drawn out to 17 minutes for no apparent reason, 10 minutes could have covered the subject quite sufficiently.

Cheers, Andy.

Some like the summary, some don't ...I don't mind if there aren't any, but it's not a bad thing which should be removed because its bad ... I don't think it will take much time in the production to do a summary The only neg thing you could say about it if you don't like it its the wasted space on you HDD but other than that I don't see any ...and if you really hate it just stop the video when the summary shows and just watch the first 10min and skip the last 7 ... Nick's voice after the editing is good to understand ... but Chris is a natural born narrator and I would love to hear him, but Nick is also doing a great job so I dont really mind

Andy - the lesson summary is approximately one minute of video, and always at the end of each lesson. If you wish to save yourself that one minute please do feel free to close the video at the appropriate time. Other than the lesson summary, what other repetitions did you note that extended the video length by 7 minutes? OK maybe I exaggerated a lot there Nick, I will be happy if you are keeping the summary right at the end of the videos, as long as no other relevant new information is covered there for one to miss.

Cheers, Andy.

The ironic thing is, however, that the people who are begging for the updates (those of us who would like to be able to justify spending the money now rather than later) cannot access the updates, as AoA has made them "Premium Content." I would like to buy the Captain's Package, but I won't do so until I receive some indication from AoA that they've put a plan in place for development. I don't expect them to give us dates and stick to them precisely. What would be helpful is a simple aspirational time line--one that is "subject to change." There is no reason they shouldn't be able to do that. From the AoA website: DISCLAIMER: GROUNDWORK IS NOT YET COMPLETE.You will be part of the initial group of trainees to go through our program.Sections will be released when completed.Updates on our production schedule will be given to you as a member. So, I have to be a member to have some sort of idea when I will realize the value of my investment? Explain the logic AoA. Trevor

Trevor, This is because those updates are only update stating that they are working on the next video. This is no schedule at all so what would be the point for somebody who haven't purchase the training to get an update about that they are working on the next video. Once you pruchase the training you get the video that are out and are kept in the loopon what they are working on but not when things will be release because they don't master all the variables of their production process. Though I do understand your question and you got a valid point in the fact that people who haven't purchase the training should know more about what they get for their money.

Judging by your last sentence, you at least understand my point. An analogy would be helpful: Imagine you wanted to see a new movie at your local movie theater. But, your local movie theater doesn't post show times. Instead, they require that you come to the box office and buy a ticket. When you arrive at the box office, you ask the clerk for a schedule of show times. The clerk tells you that the next showing should be starting in the few weeks, with show starting approximately every 12 to 18 hours or so thereafter (but, they can't be more precise than that because they have real lives). When you ask for a schedule, the clerk says that's the best she can do. Alas, the theater is kind enough to offer updates on a continuous basis so that you can get a better sense of timing. You request such an update, and the clerk tells you that you must first buy a ticket. Now, what kind of sense does that make? Trevor

Yeah Trevor, I do understand your point. But I just know they are not able to provide a schedule or anything yet. It is not because AoA doesn't want to (I'm sure they would like to release videos more often than they are doing right now). They just can't because they are putting in place the video production process. For example in the last update, Nick informed us that they have been working on a vector diagram of the whole cockpit do be able to use it in all the videos instead of just having to mark places in the actual FSX cockpit.Maybe they should have done this before the training start or something but everybody is making mistakes and they are trying to provide us (the flisghtsim community) with training and information to a level that was never done before. This diagram is one of the reasons the second video is taking some time to get out. And you can't really plan for it, just when they were making the video they relized that straight cockpit videos would not allow to do exactly what they wanted. So hence the creation of the diagram and delay in the training release. Now if they have given us a schedule everybody would be yelling at them asking "what's going o, you said you would release the video at that date and still nothing?!". By not giving any time frame AoA knows it frustrate people but it's does give them more room to tweak things around while at first they are going through every issues they can deal with. They did say that they are planning to be increasing the release rate in the future once issues are ironed out, though they did say to what frequency they are aiming for. About your analogy, I get your point and would love to have a schedule too, but as explained earlier this is not possible at the moment and movies are finish products that is why they can give you a specific show time. The 737 training is a work in progress and clearly stated as it. Hope what I'm saying does make sense, I'm not trying to argue with you at all just want to give an update for non customer that yes a schedule or knowing the release would be great but AoA is not currectly able to provide this information to anybody, as of now at least! Sincerely,Jeremy
