X plane 10 still missing a lot of things.

"......Again, denying these weaknesses I don't think are a solution. Let's admit them, and hopefully help to alleviate them. This board is filled with flight sim enthusiasts, and I think a population that is probably more forgiving and generous than the general public...I'd treat their negative comments and first responses very seriously-that is if a huge success is the goal. I don't think there is anyone here that hasn't been waiting for a succesor to fsx/fs9 which now are very old...
I have said this to another XPX defender that was calling me a hater. I believe that if we shine the proper light on the sims short comings .. then the issues can be addressed. I submit that those the constructively call out the issues are potentially more of a supporter vs. the ones that have a "hostile" reaction to every less the steller comment regarding XPX.

Before you ouright reject what I have to say, understand that I have used X-plane for over a decade now. In each of the versions, X-plane always shows the potential, hardly ever delivers or even comes close to delivering the full potential. If Seattle, as is showcased in the demo, is what people are supposed to accept as a "plausible" city/urban environment, they need to define "plausible" and in what century ! X-plane has always played by different rules and at times, more often than not, gets away with murder. If I had not experienced first hand, as a user, the intoduction and subsequent evolution of v8 thru updates, I would be as nervous and disappointed as any newbie or a potential MSFS migrant.BUT, I KNOW BETTER.What troubles me is why would they release such a crappy demo ?Why would Laminar go all the way to Europe to introduce v10 so grossly unprepared ?Did they not learn enough or learn the right lessons or draw the right conclusions from the experience of introduction and subsequent evolution of v8 and v9 ? Cities and urban landscapes in later updates in v8 looked like "plausible" cities.THAT'S WHAT DISAPPOINTS ME - this alzheimers in Laminar.
You've bought every version of x plane for 10 years? Why do you keep buying it if every version to you is not up to par, considering there is a downloadable free demo.I honestly don't understand your "getting away with murder" analogy. That's a bit strong. Like I said, there is a free demo. Try it. Don't like it? Don't buy it. How much simpler can it get? No one is holding a gun to your head. And in this great society of ours, we ALWAYS have a choice. If you choose to spend $80 AFTER trying out the demo, which was available before XP10 went on sale, then that's no ones fault but your own.Honestly, I can sympathize and understand your situation. But X Plane belongs to Austin Meyer. He flew to Europe to show it on a huge screen. Available for everyone to see the "plausible" world so they can still decide for themselves if they like it or not. I don't really see the rules that have been broken. If you asked me about the plausible world, over cities, I would PREFER to have REALISTIC cities. So in that sense, to me, it is a shortfall. HOWEVER, X Plane as a WHOLE, is VERY appealing to me. I love the clouds, the weather, the mountains, the flight model (what I KNOW it can do) the smoothness, HDR, etc...The parts I don't like are not a deal breaker for me. Parts? Heck, the only thing I don't like is the way the cities look. I cannot find anything else I don't like. Oh, and some of the default aircraft. But the same can be said about FSX in that department. Hopefully, the cities will be addressed. If not, hey, it really doesn't bother me. But that's just me.
It's not part of "flight" but is part of Aviation. Airports, and city lights, have no aerodynamic effect on the plane you fly either, should we leave them out too?
Regarding "crash" simulation..............when you head out to your local airport for a flight, you'll expect to see airports, city lights, etc. It's not usually on most pilots minds............to crash. Therfore, it's pointless to go all out, in the "crash" animation department. Some minor animation is okay. To do anymore than that is a waste...........and belongs to a different type of game. And BTW---- I've known quite a few people who have crashed. There is quite a penalty, that you won't suffer on a desktop sim. I've had the thrill of crashing myself. For me, it's a great financial penalty. It's pointless to try to simulate, unless it automatically junks your CPU..........at the least.L.Adamson

I think your logic is a bit off ... Airports and city lights are a part of the simulation and the immersion of it all ..... crashing is not!

I agree, we don't need to have "over the top" animations, and certainly no ones computers blowing up. Hypnotized.gif I to am a pilot, and to say that crashing is not on the minds of pilots, I think is a little understated also. All of the pre-flighting we do and emergencies that we practice while flying is to prevent malfunctions and crashes, and therefor, it is on the minds of pilots. As a pilot, I bet you don't just jump in your plane without a proper walk-around and inspections, and you don't do a check of your ELT, right? I too have lost friends in crashes, and have made one off-aiport landing myself. I'm not a big supporter of fire and flames, I just don't want to be able to fly through stuff, although, it would be nice. Angel.gif

For me, I was actually really excited about XPX. Everything I had seen of it before the demo was pretty exiting and I was looking forward to buying it. Unfortunately, after seeing the demo my feelings have changed. Particularly after seeing the so called cities and towns, its just an all out disappointment to me. Ive lived in many different big cities including Seattle none of them look anything like what XPX is trying to pass off as a major city. Although, you don't really need to have seen a city before to know these don't look like one.The cities in XPX look very sterile, procedural (which im pretty sure they are), and way too blocky to even allow for temporary suspension of belief. Since I like flying GA planes around cities that pretty much ruins it for me. Maybe in a few years this will be all cleared up though, I expect Flight to also need several years before I might consider buying it.

No engine sound from AI aircraft. Maybe on the list for a future update? How would we know?

Yes, I have bought EVERY version in the past decade. It's the fluidity in the FM that feels somewhat natural - not necessarily realistic - mind you; that along with it's potential that brings me back, again and again. For a price of a dinner or two and perhaps a movie, I can have an alternate to MS FS that was and is a good and welcome change, along with the likes of the Jane's series, MS Combat sim, etc.Regarding "getting away with murder", obviously, you don't have much of a clue on it's history, attitude or the lack of credit or appreciation or respect for the hundreds, if not thousands of unselfish contributors and developers, whose creations and developmental efforts fell by the wayside and lie in it's wake. They are the silent, unselfish minority of enthusiasts, who see the same potential, if not more, that I see.I am not bitter enough yet to give up on that reservoir of potential. To me, judging by the "plausible" cities in the demo, this v10 is a step backwards - not that there are not improvements over prior versions. There is always hope and potential. It keeps everything going - forward or not is always debatable.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting your posts. You seem very bitter towards what X Plane is and has been and in this last post, you have some nice things to say about it.So my apologies for any misunderstanding. However, saying I don't have much of a clue on it's history? You're miles off the mark on this one. I know PLENTY on X Plane's history. Before it turns into a full blown debate, we might just leave it there.Again, my apologies if I misunderstood. If you would like to discuss it in PM, please feel free.

Thanks for the offer, but keeping it public keeps me honest, I do sincerely hope.

its simple .. he likes somethings about it and dislikes somethings about.... you have jumped in to XPX 100% independent of what was released.

HelloObviously you also do not seem to have much of a clue when it comes to XP developementGoran is obviously too modest to direct you to his work but I will so here you go,enjoy !http://forums.x-pilo...y-april-3-2011/http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php/topic/894-announcing-the-beechcraft-duchess-official-in-sim-previews-inside/

Maybe you're right. If that is the case, then you're guilty of the opposite.

I dont know what you are talking about ..
Are you sure about that? If you assign an axis to "Throttle" then I thought it controlled everything. There are additional settings for Throttle 1, 2, 3, etc. that can be independently assigned, but I'm pretty sure if you use just Throttle then it will slave all of an aircraft's throttles to one control.
You're exactly right, except that the "Throttle" choice is missing from the XPX drop down menu when assigning axis. It's there in the XP9 menu but there is no multi-throttle choice in XPX, only a choice of 1,2,3 or 4 and no way to assign all of them to the same axis.
