December 23, 201114 yr I realize this is a REX thread, but as a previous member posted earlier in this thread, anyone on the fence or thinking about buying REX, should really look at the reviews on AS2012. I own Rex as well as ASE and have enjoyed using both. However, after purchasing AS2012 earlier this week, no going back to Rex. The Ngx runs smoother, better frames, and incredible textures. I suggest using the 4096 textures if your system can handle it. I wasnt expecting my system too but I am getting over 20fps (couple of dips into the high teens) with the ngx at JFK with FSDT JFK, imagine sim KLGA, AND manhattanX all loaded . That is also with alll sliders up, GEX, Ult. Terr X, Ult. Traffic2. I can't believe it! People should also take the advice mentioned in the As2012 post where you adjust the FSX.Cfg to run cloud density= 12 , instead of 8. Incredible overcast. December 24, 201114 yr I believe during dusk and dawn, FSX uses twice the data amount when 'dusk/dawn smoothing' is on (fsx.cfg setting). But YMML is a contributing factor here. Try to repeat the flight during the day, reduce clouds (distance, coverage)For my taste, 1024 DXT5 clouds have almost no difference from 4096 32bit, but has much more performanceI think you are right about the dawndusk effect on fps although it did look amazing, but very red. I did a daytime approach to YMML again and fps was 20+ most of the time. I tested another daytime flight in Europe (EDDC to LOWI - see my sig) with the winter theme and real weather, and the fps were even higher. I've done a little tuning which I think is helping but I'm still trying different FSX and REX settings. I really like the weather effects, amazing!

December 25, 201114 yr I know Paul's question has already been answered but read a lot of posts here and elsewhere that were from Rex users saying they switched to the new AS 2012. Personally, I support both the most I can, but in regard to the textures honestly have not seen one screenshot or one video of the new AS 2012 that looks half as good as my Rex textures. Again, I love both and look forward to Essentials more and more every second. I don't yet own AS 2012 but will get it as a supporter, and for the new weather engine, at least until Essentials is released, but I'll still be sticking to my Rex textures.I just want to add to this topic and have read every post everyone else has made, but one key point needs (re)mention I think. Rex has so many texture sets that I find people normally install it, pick a set, then compare it to the best another product has to show. So basically, due to their chosen set, they then make comparisons and of course make their recommendations and such. Since I started my forum and the "Logbook" section, I've been posting my screenshots and 99% of my forum members are Rex2 users. Every time I post shots people wonder what is wrong with their install since my cloud textures look nothing like theirs (what they said, not me). Even on Rex's Screenshot forum, people have asked. It has nothing to do with their comps, just their choices. Most of my shots aren't even using Overdrive. I stumbled across a topic elsewhere and was pretty upset that the poster giving advice showed a terrible shot of Rex in comparison and the one compared to also was quite plain I thought, but just wanted to show a couple of mine using Rex (without OD, meaning these textures are not from the OD set is all).None of these are edited in anyway other than their quality being "Dropped" and them being re-sized from my old resolution of 5040x1050 (now higher). The darker ones with overcast I did have the ENB mod active, but now a happy user of shade. These shots are also nearly one year old and still far better than anything I've seen with the competition. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier

December 26, 201114 yr Is there anyplace else to purchase REX other then flightsim.com? I have tried 2 different credit cards and both have been rejected due to the transaction not being in the US. Even after calling Visa and Mastercard and telling them its not fraud and please allow me to purchase it will not allow the purchase.

December 26, 201114 yr Adam, I have Bank of America, and they cancel my cards all the time even though I tell them it isn't fraud, it's a pain. I only use paypal now. It doesn't take long to set up an account with them and you won't have to worry about them standing in your way. I wouldn't be looking for an alternate solution though since most addons come from areas that you're going to have the same issues. Paypal works on most sites and more and more are going to it. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
December 27, 201114 yr Thanks Dan, I will set up a paypal account.I use PayPal for all online transactions these days. Makes purchases a little easier and I feel it's a little safer although it's probably not really.
December 27, 201114 yr To all the rex users if you havnt checked in with the forum lately they been going thru everyones post checking and verifying to see if you have purchased a legal copy of the rex2 and once they have verified it to be correct they put a verifed stamp on your avator or pic against your name. This is to i guess weed out the people who have illegal copies and asking for help in the rex forum. So make sure you have added your order number in your signature block in the rex forum. Maybe pmdg should do the same here. I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
