I'm waiting to see how this unwinds. As for now I still have 'hours and hours' of paid FSX content to fly, so I'm content and in no hurry at all. My guess is that from day one substantial terrain and landclass add ons will be available, and that eventually both pay for and free 3d party add ons will be available. I can't imagine MS being that ignorant or brazen about the hardcore FS market not to tap into 3d party development.

(snip) Here is an excerpt from an article, "The game will feature it’s own marketplace, with content regulated by Microsoft. There will be no scenery development kit and hence no user created content."
What article stated this? I can't find this in any of the Flight site news articles.

Seems to me that Microsoft is exactly that... ignorant and brazen about the hardcore FS market. They only want 3rd party development through their microtransaction model where they get a cut of the profits -- think iTunes.

This was in a news release article linked here. Although there is no documented or written statement by Microsoft with this information, it was apparently verbally shared with the invited guests to Microsoft's event last month. Perhaps it was an answer to a question during the visit. This information has also been reflected by T. Allensworth here at AVSIM as well, so I have a sick feeling that it is indeed true.

Such an Android market. Flight will be installed out of 10000 pieces every for 1 buck :LMAO:Nooooooooooo

I predicted years ago in this very same forum that MS would eventually turn its flightsim franchise into a consolized experience. Da da!

Thanks for the heads up.Considering the marketing for Flight, how long will it be before we see a revival of MS Combat FS?(BTW I'm bummed that IL-2 Cliffs of Dover is such a disaster. At least Rise of Flight finally got it right; its flight modelling is state of the art...it's also free to try for as long as you like).

Yes, CoD was a huge letdown, but at least it is in developement. RoF is an amazing example of simulator, which is made by rather small team and after pretty lame start, in three years or so by listening a community and believing in their product they have built up one of the most detailed combat sims ever. There is not much in common with first RoF release and today's Iron Cross: There's now decent campaign, huge amount of planes and even graphics engine have been largely redone. Their money making strategy is also genius and I believe it produces pretty constant money flow. I feel great respect for the dev team.Somehow I hope that laminar would take similar approach and keep developing XPX several years instead doing XP11 after 2 years or so. FSX is also good example where sim can go after long existence: 3rd party devs really learn to improve the game and amount of quality addons is huge after 5 years of game's existence. I fear that XPX will never get to its full bloom until new version arrives.

I hope MS changes in the future...........!

You know fellas, we should look at this as an opportunity. An opportuity to build on what we have and in doing so it will separate us from the mainstream gamers. Up until now, people who wanted to 'play' at simming, had basically two choices XP and FSX, and no matter what people say, the mainstream gamer would have gone for FSX or previous versions of FS. Now look what has happened, there is a tangible devide. Mainstream gamers will cotton onto Flight and us serious simmers will have our very own platforms ie, FSX or as many predict, including myself, Prepar3D. It's a golden opportunity now for LM to really grab the reigns and take advantage of the situation, if they don't then IMO they deserve to fall. Look what they have in their hands this very moment. No competition from Flight, whatsoever, and at this moment in time no real competition from XP10 (IMO) So what they have is a platform which is established and all it's potential customers have the relevent addons. They have already made improvements to the code and there is also talk about them making P3D run with DX11. I mean, what more could we possibly want from a sim? Certainly from my point of view, if I can get rid of blurries, have a stable platform without crashes and freezes and have smooth flying with the option for all the great addons from Orbx PMDG etc, I mean, heaven! There is no way any part of Flight or XP10 will currently come anywhere near to the resolution that is afforded by designers such as Orbx, products such as GEX, UTX and all the photoreal sceneries. So, LM the ball is in your court my friends. Take the challenge, get your asses into gear and get this P3D rocking! :(

At least, the initial offering (Hawaii) will be provided for free. This will give everyone a chance to take a good look at the new graphics and other features and make a judgement on whether or not its something they want to invest further in. Who knows,it may be so impressive, and the additional content so enticing that it'll catch on. And if not, we uninstall it and move on.
NOPE. Ive seen the trailer. You fly through hoops in the sky and collect point that are uploaded to Xbox live

Are you enjoying FSX? Yes? Did you know FSX has hoops in the sky too and all kinds of crappy stuff? Did that bother you? Well? No, it didn't. So why should it bother you now? You don't HAVE to collect points, you know.
