Microsoft Flight Announcement

Featured Replies

Microsoft has at last made an announcement at http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/. But I am not any clearer how it relates to FSX.

Just as I thought, the franchise ends with FSX."After downloading Microsoft Flight for free, players can jump into hours of exciting gameplay on the Big Island of Hawaii. In addition, players who sign in to their Games for Windows – LIVE account automatically receive additional free content, including the legendary Boeing Stearman plane, supplementary missions, and access to Achievements and an Online Pilot Profile. Those looking to deepen their experience can purchase and download additional content that adds new aircraft, regions and customization options. The frequently released new content for Microsoft Flight includes daily aerocache challenges and updates that make every flight unique and fun."Bye Bye IFR.

Don't you guys find it funny how it devolved back to the state of the very first flight sims like sublogic? It started with Chicago, then the entire United States, then the world! then Hawaii.Another of my favorite quotes "hours of exciting gameplay" Only hours? previous FS'es had years and years of exiting gameplay.Rest in peace, MSFS.

Aren't you guys overreacting a bit or am I missing something? If the price for the regions is within reason, what's the problem? What we need to know is how realistic the flight dynamics, weather engine and all those things are. If the SDK allows for complex A/C & scenery development, and performance is good in current hardware

I think the most AddOn developers will have some problems with FLIGHT. I expect that everything for FLIGHT will have to be downloaded over the microsoft network. So I also think there won't be much freeware for FLIGHT.They wrote it will be a good game. I don't need a game, I ned a simulator. You can compare your results over the network! I don't want to compare anything, I want to fly. I want to fly from Anchorage to New York at the one day, at the next day, I want to fly from Berlin to Zurich. I don't want to have to pay for every region I fly over. I don't want to wait 5 hours until I have dowloaded a new region. I don't want expensive airplaines with a system depth of 0. I don't expect very realistic flight dynamics, nor I expect a good weather engine. We will get a unrealistic flight mode, we will get useless missions, we will get a huge bill.No thanks!

I see your point, but the world of gaming is slowly regressing into this idea that products can be released in bits and pieces, paying as you go for the complete product. You can see it rampant on some XBOX titles. Buy the game, and then buy these other map packs, and then these extra features. Some are legitimate, in that they truly are expansions on a complete product, but some are the truly terrible kind, where you buy the "complete game" but still need to buy A, B and C before you can even use it fully.

Oh boy! I can only imagine what a nightmare would be trying to fly from KJFk to VHHH!, how many regions will I need? and what comes to my mind is how will the market be for scenery developers now that they have to choose which region to develop for(IF MICROSOFT allows them to!), I don't know but surely does not sound good to me!

Dazz, I have to agree with you. People forget that FSX was released 6 years ago. 6 years is a long time to have additional regions available for download. I have to assume that MS Flight will allow 3rd party developers to offer product through the MS Flight portal. I can't see a downside to MS for allowing this, after all they will take a part of the price for themselves, not unlike the iTunes or App stores. Let's wait and see, its still too early to throw in the towel completely.Mark.

We shouldn't take conclusions yet. They said that the FREE version of Flight is gonna have Hawaii, and if you sign up you're gonna have more. Perhaps if you buy the full version you get the whole world. But if we don't get the whole world in the end, then this will be a totally unplayable game. IT JUST MAKES ME SO ANGRY HOW THE GAMES ARE GETTING WORSE AND WORSE. :@ Good buy simulators... The games are just getting worse and worse. F1 2011, which is full of bugs. Modern Warfare 3, which gets boring after 2 weeks. Dirt 3, with only minor content compared to previous releases. And now, we aren't even getting new Flight Simulators? There are so many people around the world asking for this. Perhaps, some day a game developer will realise that people want a simulator and not a ######ing game!Right now, I think FSX has got at least around 3 more years in it.As XPlane 10 is also garbage, I now keep my fingers crossed for PMDG. Perhaps, some day. they will make their own flight simulator platform. Perhaps it's already in planning, one of those "secret projects"?

This is just my opinion, but...Why would I pay a subsciption fee for FSX with submarine capability and some bug fixes? What will make me buy FSX 1.5 (or whatever) for a monthly fee?I think we all agree a new sim needs to be made, BUTPrepared is still FSX's engine (with a fee, after I already paid for FSX...). Flight is a video game. I'm worried about where the Flight Sim genre as we know it is headed.
