Wilco's A320 Vol. 1 Evolution, How is it?

Featured Replies

Get the original package. The Evolution package is a hack off the original work not designed by the original team including myself which was one of the original beta testers.

Anyways, anyone have a opinion on the new Wilco A320 PIC?
If I may give you an advice:Stay away from both packages. The original package contains a lot of flaws, and the evolution package add-on is a rip off (in my opinion)Better look for iFly 737 (yes, not an airbus)

Well, not a particulaly on-topic reponse from Egbert there, dont think the OP was asking about 737s Money%20Eyes.gifThe original Wilco A320 was actually very good, in fact its system modelling is just as good, even better, than any of the other A320's released recently for FSX. I bought the evolution addon and although it has improved a few areas I wasnt too happy about a couple of other changes. I'd stick with the original release probably.Sure it has a few issues but what aircraft doesnt, I'm sure even the holier-than-thou NGX will have its own.

Well, for me it was cheaper to purchase the "Evolutioned" Airbuses (vol1+2) than purchasing the original versions (pre-Evolution). That and some minor tweaks to the airfile, and now I'm satisfied with the results. I also have the Embraer, I feel the E-jets better done than the Airbuses.Best regards from Colombia,Luis Miguel

If you get the original package you'll need to update the sounds with some of the better freeware sound options located in the File Library (Airbus Series 2 actually doesn't need an update but Series 1 is hurting in the sound department). Also look for updated textures found in the library as well.

I've had the Wilco Airbus for a few years and recently upgraded it to the Evolution just a few days ago. The Evo is based upon, but not compatible with Eric Marciano's FMGC upgrade. I believe Eric was part of the team who developed the original Airbus for FeelThere. So with all its faults its probably the best overall Airbus out there at the moment - although not the prettiest perhaps.I did write some impressions in other threads on this forum about this, which you might find helpful (I don't claim 100% accuracy, just some impressions), in comparing the various airbus packages: Where I couldn't get the HUD to work http://forum.avsim.n..._1#entry2230796, and also in an old thread about comparing Airbus sims in general: http://forum.avsim.n..._1#entry2231909On the whole I'm fairly pleased with the Upgrade, that is along with some with better sounds and a texture improvement for the VC. But with all such things there are payoffs. It is after all a bit of a cludge. You get a HUD for the 2D panel and simple rxp weather radar as well as mods to the FMGC, so it's defo not a 'ripoff' as others have suggested. It holds flight plans and descents better, you get curved transitions across waypoints on SIDS and STARS on the ND (not for other waypoints though). Some things don't work as well for example, setting an arrival runway that has an ILS approach, no longer automatically sets the ILS frequency in the Radio page in the MCDU, there are few other mostly minor niggles (for me). Also as someone pointed out, you can't use mods to the panel or do merges (with Posky) in the evo version. You must also use it in advanced mode to get a realistic pitch up on climb out. I use intermediate mode as I can't be bothered to wait for the IRS to alignI have had some interesting moments with it, particularly starting up from cold and dark. One tip I found works is if you find you can't load the Airbus or it starts behaving erratically, delete the fmgc.cfg file in the directory:e.g. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\FeelThere\Airbus\FMGC , which then resets the FMGC.One last note, I like solving problems so I have broken lots of things and learned by painful trial and error, this is not recommended for a long healthy life or marriage or for people who don't like to or cannot get under the bonnet of their Sim or PC. So at least for goodness sake whatever you do...RTFM. I have vowed to do the same - one day :-)Hope this helps.Ray

Hi Dillon, I have always stuck with the Original Package (Vol 1.) The Evolution package was given to me as a present and I have always been tempted to give it a go. I have to say you are really negative about this 'upgrade' ( I have seen other posts you have made about this), whilst others are quite positive about it. What is it exactly that doesn't work. Definitely, Bob! I am flying nothing else at the moment and having sooo much fun!I don't remember when I last felt so great in the sim. Maybe in December 2010, when I bought iFly 737NG.But each to their own. I am happy when people are happy with their choices. thumbsup2.gifAs the thread is about Wilco, I wouldn't like to turn it into another X vs Y one. So maybe let's leave it the Wilco Evo one.

I dont really like jumping into another persons topic, but I bought the evo series 1 for FSX about 4 days ago and have issues which I want to share and see if either anyone else has similar or if there's any fix. I was more than happy with the original Airbus vol 1 and am about to go back to it. With the Evo, at least for me there are several issues. first the weather radar doesnt seem to work, I turn in on and it does a sort of scan for about 3 secs then winks off and thats it, nothing else, I can no longer hear the APU powering up, the seatbelt and no smoking signs dont make a ding sound anymore when being turned on, finally, more troubling is that there is no "minimums" annunciated, nor any altitude callouts on approach to the threshold, ie, 50...40...30 etc, and finally there is no "retard, retard" annunciated. I have done four flights and these issues are present in all of them. Any thoughts on this? Sorry, just realised this is a post for FS9 and not FSX, so please feel free to move it!Rory
