Hi Glenn, if my posts have been critical then it's because I feel strongly about things. I have always tried to live by the words my mother told me 'treat people in a way you'd want to be treated yourself.' Because of this, I will say my piece, but hopefully with respect and good grace. I do not like to be rude to anyone, if I am it is for a very good reason. If I am proved wrong, I will be the first person to put my hand up and apologise. In fact if you scour the forums you may well find several posts that I have conceded an opinion and done just that.Glenn my friend, I don't think there are any double standards. I think it's probably more a question of timing. I don't want to sound patronising towards the gentleman in question, but maybe, just maybe, he's read this thread and in doing so it has enabled him to take a step back and ask a few questions. I hope that is the case and that Orbx can take a more humble approach towards their customers and maybe even more so towards those, like Dave, who have been so loyal and supportive over the years.
Howard, personally I had no problem with your comments. You always put your perspective across in a fair, reasoned and polite manner. My issue is that even these comments are 'censored' at Orbx. If you then take the discussion to places such as AVSIM, orbx still manage to 'get' you! Finally, if your posting rights have been restored, why not mine?My comments were less negative towards them yet I am still denied posting rights. How is that?Seeing as emails to Orbx are not answered, my expectations for product support via this method are not high. Besides, I am sure the dissenters are at the back of the line for any support as well.Orbx (FTX) is a great product, BUT there is no business in the world that is immune to customer reaction and perception, especially when it comes to frontline sales and support issues. In this small, niche market, I would suspect especially so.

I’ve always found Dutch people to be per light and respectful.
Thank you, thank you. :(
So all I can say there are some pretty decent people there at ORBX, for me it is just one or two individuals that really give the place a bad name and "vibe".
Indeed.
I trully feel sorry for those people that have to work there as it really cannot be a very nice work environment.
Afaik all developers live elsewhere and don't really work AT Orbx. Afaik (!) Orbx is an umbrella for various developers who sell there stuff through Orbx. (Hence the often big difference between the addons. When I buy things from Orbx I always look at who created the addon, because not all developers have the same standards.) Quite a few devs sold their own stuff on the internet before they 'joined' Orbx. I guess the advantage for working like this is being able to use the libs from Orbx and having a (up to now) strong brand that you can paste on your addons plus having a shop that does the advertising and selling for you. I wonder if some devs regret their decision to join Orbx now...

Nice to have this place here and thanks to the Avsim Staff.I`m still not banned on the ORBX forum, but i never posted there a lot,so it doesn´t interest me.I don`t post in a forum where i cannot write my opinion.I wish ORBX the best,i bought the complete stuff they`ve ever released but that`s over now.Since December i haven´t touched any ORBX product,i have many photosceneries,GEX and UTX and the world is also very nice with this addons and much more FPS friendly btw.I will buy probably only one more product--NSNI because i have the NZSI.That`s it for me,nobody treats me the way they have done, but i think they will only learn when the cashflow will stop, imho.Good to have this place here.Michael

I don't own any of OrbX's scenery. I did install the PNW demo and enjoyed flying around for a few days, but haven't been back to the PNW for several years.I came very, very close to buying all of the available products while they were on sale, but "something" whispered to me and said "No, when will you ever have time to install all of this, much less fly around and enjoy it!"Now, having read this thread (as well as a few other similar threads) I'm glad that I listened to that pesky old man and his whispered comments. :(
I'm in the same boat as you. I bought all the ORBX stuff in my sig a few Christmas'es ago when they had a big sale. Like you I had been putting it off since the inception of ORBX, mainly due to the fact that I wasn't really that interested in the areas they offered and the fact that the PNW stuff really caters to guys who like bush flying, and the fact that I read that some of the products may not perform that well unless you have the most current hardware. Well, I took the plunge and got the whole AU SP3 package and installed it. It seemed to perform well enough so I got 4 or so of the bigger Au hubs, PNW and a few of the PNW airports. Loaded it all up, flew around the PNW a few times as well as Au once or twice in the PMDG JS4100, and believe it or not, after maybe 20 total hours in PNW and AU, I was done. Yeah it was ok looking stuff but just not really areas that could hold my interest enough to keep using it on a regular basis. Then there has always bee the issue of their growing ego's, not only JV's but some of the other dev's/mod's on the site. What really would tick me off is when I would post a question or suggestion and they would post a brief answer not even really answering my question or commenting on my suggestion, then proceed to lock the post before I could even respond to make another comment. I had made a post for support for the PNW area and a few days had gone by and still hadn't gotten a reply from an ORBX support guy. I then bumped the post over the course of a few days and then one of the ORBX guys named Tim ended up locking the post and making a comment that since he hadn't responded in the time frame that met my expectations he was going to just lock the thread. I think that was one of the tipping points for me that put an end to even looking at their forum and buying anything else.I realise that PMDG has been said to have an ego as well, although I dont feel that they are anywhere close to the ego that the ORBX guys have and at least PMDG doesn't go locking or deleting every thread that doesn't suit them. The only thing that would make me see why PMDG would come across as having an ego is due to the fact they they get sick of being asked some of the same questions over and over again, like the weather radar one or before the NGX was released and they made a few remarks that I personally thought was funny but some took as egotistical. Frankly I think the PMDG guys are a great bunch, have a good sense of humor even when being pestered and have always offered good timely customer service either thru their forum of support ticked system. I would also point to Umberto at FSDT as being one of the most patient developers when it comes to irrate customer screaming at him and he never locks or deletes post unless personal attacks are made. Unfortunately the ORBX forums strict moderation and what I feel is over the top censorship has really turned me off. I'll probably never buy from them again unless they do something outstanding for an area that I actually regularly fly in, like south Florida or Brasil, but until then my credit card will remain in my pocket and only come out for FSDT,PMDG, Flightbeam, and FlyTampa.

Got to address "bush" flying. I have been flying ifr for 23 years-never ever done "bush" flying. Just don't go into class B airports cause they cost 4x as much and the taxi time is 4x as much, and there are landing fees, and when you are burning 30 gallons/hr not worth the increased taxi time/hassle. Also the "bush" airports get you much closer to where you want to go.So for me the orbx or other developers scenery is not "bush" flying-it is practical flying. Look at the stats in the United States-eighty percent of flying in the US is GA-not commercial airliners to "b" airports but GA to "bush" destinations-except they are not "bush" destinations-they are reality.

Hi Guys,Please restrain yourselves somewhat in the criticism of individuals. I realize that it may be necessary to vent pent up frustration, but there is a limit and everyone needs to stay on the safe side. I don't want to run a censorship board, for Lord knows we have seen enough of that, but I think once you have carefully and tastefully referred to what has really bugged you, that should be enough, don't you think? Lets keep from being a lynch mob here. Thank you for considering this caution.Kind regards,

Fair enough, I should have said general aviation rather than bush. For some reason when I think of the PNW and airports in mountains and rugged terrain the term "bush" flying comes to mind, even though it's not really that. I suppose I through that term around kind of like when people want a soft drink they might refer to it as wanting a coke even though it might actually be a Pepsi they are drinking. I agree that in my whopping 60 hrs or PIC time in real life, none of it would be classified as "bush" flying even though the majority of it was in small a/c flying out of small airports.

I have to say that it was Orbx that effectively hooked me on FSX. If it wasn't for their scenery I probably would not be here typing at this minute. IMO there is nothing to compare if you want to fly in landclass scenerey under 2000ft, and of course be able to fly proper VFR. So, while the NGX more than satisfies my needs flying European routes, my GA is very much part of Orbx scenery, both in PNW, AUS and now NZ. Incidentally fellas, if you haven't got New Zealand south island, I can thoroughly recommend it!

Quite right! New Zealand South Island is fabulous. Milford sound will take your breath away.Kind regards,

I have had the 'This post will need approval from a moderator before this post is shown' message for seven or eight months now and nothing I have tried to add since has been posted when 99% of it has been as simple as saying something positive about a screenshot. I don't even try any more. As much as I am a fan and customer of their work I sometimes get the impression that the key players are expecting the bubble to burst at any moment and so are keeping a tighter and tighter grip on the PR machine and what gets posted on the forums. Anything they preceive as at all negative gets locked or deleted and as a result the forums are full of people saying how wonderful it all is and nothing else. It would be like walking into a city and finding everyone has a big silly grin on their face and anyone who doesn't is locked outside the city gates so they don't make the place look bad (or real). It just means it's pointless going to their forums when it is such a controlled and uncomfortable environment. I also don't like the way all of the moderators there have obviously been told to push Prepar3D and to come down hard on anyone who questions whether or not it's the best way forward. They seem to be investing as much time in positive spin for Prepar3D as they are for adapting their products when most of us who use FSX are waiting to see what the alternatives will be and more importantly, how much it will cost. But the bottom line is developers come and go. At the moment Orbx are at the top of the tree when it comes to scenery, although I am finding the latest sceneries harder and harder on my system to the point that I have just uninstalled two of them, but at some point another team will come up with something even more amazing and Orbx will fade into memory just as others have done before them. What they will be remembered for however is their arrogance and totalitarian attitude which is a great shame given what some of them have contributed.
