January 21, 201214 yr Hi all, it is me again. I would like to know if anybody knows of ant good EFBs (Electronic Flight Bag) for use with the iPad. I would like the app to be free if possible and not require a subscription. Also if possible I want the app to work for a lifetime, not a 2 month free subscription. I have already tried the following: EFB AeroMilBag I hope there is 'an app for that'.Aaron G. PMDG Boeing 737NGX Captain
January 21, 201214 yr Commercial Member Recently discussed here. I own FS Kneeboard which is great for the USA. If you want worldwide, then you're going to have to splash the cash as it's not cheap and there is no free option. January 22, 201214 yr Commercial Member Another option is to just download the charts from the internet and put them in a PDF viewer. FS Kneeboard does this, but it's not as convenient as viewing the U.S. charts. You can also checkout an app called Premiere Charts. It is the real-world version of FS Kneeboard and allows you to drag your own PDFs into the chart tabs which is a super easy way to have up to 15 charts pre-loaded , you can even save the layout. The app is free to download and use (there is a fee for the U.S. charts but you don't have to get them).Others use Goodreader which is a great app as well. Unfortunately there isn't much out there for displaying international charts and you will have to pay a lot. You would be blown away at the sum I was quoted to add U.K. charts into FS Kneeboard and that was just one country. Unfortunately, even the U.S. is going that route and will soon be charging some kind of licensing for U.S. charts. Noah Bryant
January 22, 201214 yr I would caution - if you are using Windows7 64-bit you might find the apps FSX plug-in will not function properly. I've already run into two iPad apps with plug-ins that don't work.fb Edited January 22, 201214 yr by fbass
January 22, 201214 yr Another option is to just download the charts from the internet and put them in a PDF viewer.I am new to the iPad 2. How do you download the charts from the internet to the iPad? I realize that you can simply view them in Safari but I don't think that is what you are suggesting. I can also use Dropbox but that entails using both my desktop PC and the iPad. I'm confused. Tom
January 22, 201214 yr I can also recommend AirDisplay + Aivlasoft EFB combo. One of the greatest inventions for simming IMHO.
January 22, 201214 yr Does air display only mirror laptop screen With Aivlasoft EFB, or can it run other apps on Lappy as well? I seem to be only able to mirror display, any help would be appreciated Wayne http://fs2crew.com/banners/Banner_FS2Crew_MJC_Supporter.png Wayne HART

Use any internet connected device to download the charts into Dropbox; then open GoodReader ( a great app on its own), click on the "Connect to Servers" tab on the right, add your Dropbox account (free), and then you'll be able to load the .pdfs right from Dropbox into GoodReader. I still have my laptop screen available.
January 22, 201214 yr FSKneeboard is great, Been using it for a long time now. It has Sectionals, IFR high/Low Charts, Terminal procedures, Airport layouts, Stoplight style Checklists for the most popular A/Cs or add your own, Touch screen notepad for the fast jots, webbrowser,Weather info. It really does cram alot into one app. For me it's a nobrainer for IPAD apps.
January 22, 201214 yr You can also use iBooks as a repository and reader for all those PDF manuals. :)

January 22, 201214 yr Commercial Member How do you download the charts from the internet to the iPad?Dropbox is one way, and probably the easiest if the app supports it. With FSK, you use iTunes file sharing which is a drag/drop method you use in iTunes. Many other apps that support document view do this as well. Here's a link that explains iTunes file sharing.http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094 Noah Bryant
January 22, 201214 yr I use the FAA d-TPP on DVD for US airport charts and Navigraph's nDac for those outside the US. With the d-TPP charts, you can save the pdf file directly--with nDac I use a driver called CutePDFWriter which writes out a .pdf format file when I print the plate using the driver. With Goodreader on the iPad, I can transfer the pdf files from my PC via wireless into the Goodreader download directory and then view them on the ipad. Goodreader even tabs the files on an auto-hide overlay.I like and use FSKneeboard now for US charts, but I am concerned we're going to lose access to the US FAA data in a few months when they go to their new user-fee model. So I bought a cycle 1201 FAA d-TPP disk ($17 postpaid direct from FAA/AeroNav) with all the US data, and if we do lose access to FAA data for FSKneeboard, I can still get my 1201 cycle FAA charts up on the iPad with Goodreader.
