3rd Party Devs and Flight.

Featured Replies

We'd all like to see this happen - the stars of the FSX community working with MS to make Flight a sim we want to fly. With the release date of 29th Feb announced, I'm looking forward to giving this a good try out. I'm looking at this as a GA simulator. I've got no plans to fly coins missions or such. So my question is: of the third party devs - who's definitely not doing this, and who might still be in the game?PMDG are not developing for it - and it would make little sense at present, though I would be happy flying the NGX through the Hawaian isalnd chain.Orbx are definitely not. MS seem to be taking an orbx-like approach of covering small areas in high detail. I can see why this relationship didn't work out.But what about some other devs who would fit into the Flight world? Carenado, A2A, realair spring to mind. I'm sure NDA's abound, but does anyone have thoughts as to whether any of the FSX players are likely to jump onboard?

I've heard nothing from RealAir or RealityXP for quite a while.... who knows... would be nice!

I guess you haven't read that Microsoft shut out third party development unless they played ball on Microsoft's terms. The details are out there for you to find, go check out PMDG's forums for starters.

FS2020

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

It is MS who developed Flight in the first place so why shouldn't 3PD play ball on MS' term.

i just hope one day we get both sides of the story .

You've evidently never heard of, or believed in, consumer rights.Cheers,- jahman.

Microsoft will get money from developing addons, not from the simulator itself. Addons will be oriented towards entertainment, so I fear there will be less interest in 3rd party dev to join this company policy. I dream of major 3rd party dev joining togheter to promote the develop an open source flight sim, a perfect "empty box" to fill with their products...Dreaming is unexpensive.

Except 3PD are businesses themselves.

Good guess...but wrong. Actually, bad guess. My OP made it clear that orbx and PMDG are not developing for Flight. The whole point is that those two companies have been the most vocal about their (negative) position and the reasons for this. As a publisher, I'd add aerosoft to the list.Flight is coming and some 3rd party developers would make it much sweeter (i would never fly a default fsx plane). As NDA's will be in play, any 3rd party developers who have stayed on board will be being very quiet. From a bit of research today, i note an initial positive comment from Scott at A2A, but not much since except community chatter. Didn't find anything official and negative on a quick check of their forums (unlike the PMDG forums, I'm not a regular there). :). I also haven't heard that realair and carenado are not developing. It's the companies that don't say much that could still be on board. Anyone know any good rumours? ;)

I could believe some GA devs doing something for it and some scenery devs too of course, but I doubt that Flight will ever see any jet with complex system simulation. Currently it has no area to really enjoy that kind of plane, and probably its target audience is elsewhere anyway. Flight could be good for flying small planes and such, but as simulator for big jets I believe that X plane 10 will be the future.

I guess all should be revealed after the 29th when the NDA's expire. All we know is the two devs that have come out and said no.Eveyone else is still on the cards. Until they come out and say they won't develop for Flight, they could be in. It's a guessing game till the 29th.

The essential facts are straightforward . Microsoft and some commercial developers couldn't agree on terms and so aren't working together. I know of no law, consumer or other, that could compel them to work together.

A guessing game? OK...Carenado haven't said they're not making content, and there's no Cessnas or Pipers in at the moment.Realair have been quiet. Have they released anything since the Turbine Duke a year ago? Hmmmm...And accusim would be easy to adapt to Flight if A2A was working with MS. Just my idle speculation...

As far as I'm aware, no one other than Orbx and PMDG were invited to participate, and from what I've learned it was pretty much a one-way street they were on... :(
