FSrealWX lite - it keeps it's promises

I promise your honor, I just robbed that bank to pay my bills this month and I was going to re-pay the money back all at once next month.

Personally, although I think he was 'silly' for stating it in public, I think this treament was harsh. He already stated he has a legit copy and we SHOULD be giving him the benifit of doubt.I have previously done EXACTLY what he's done because MS couldn't get their **** together for over a week when I was trying one time.If a few more were honest here, they would say the same.and i know because they've told me!Back on topic...I also LOVE this little program. I didn't install ASE for ages, then discovered what I'd been missing, but this little baby seems to do it even better.
Personally I can not agree, if you use an illegal version of FSX what is to stop you from using a cracked version of anything else. There is no benefit of the doubt imho, stealing is stealing, if Acura couldn't get there act together for a week and get me the car I paid for I wouldn't go take another would I? In fact the one time an FS developer did not respond to me in a timely manner I just bought the product again because I used it SOOOO much I figured another $20 bucks was actually fair LOL... Different strokes for different folks...

Can we please differentiate between someone 'stealing' software and someone who has bought it and uses whatever to activate? The legal relevant part is the ownership of the license to use it, not the way you've used to activate. To get that license, you pay. Then the vendor has to deliver a working product for that money or rejects your payment and doesn't.In the case of FSX, I saw quite some folks (with a legally purchased license) running into activation limits, some of them being Avsim mods and then struggling with the poor and/or expensive support methods of MS.Using wrong examples doesn't help.

They gave you the car, but they refuse to give you the keys because you've changed your shirt from the day you've bought it. Now you make your own keys, on your very own car. That would be a valid comparison. Nothing wrong with that, not in any legal aspect. Now the nice part on the FSRealWx of course is that it's freeware and also works fine. Even if it doesn't, you can always drop the dev a line and he may look into the issue. So, in conclusion, donating a few bucks may be very appropriate if you like the soft. :smile:As a nice side effect, it doesn't stress the system's resources and, so far, delivers the best overcast impression I've seen in the sim. Even over REX and ASE in my case.
Using wrong examples doesn't help.
But if my end user agreement with Acura says I can not move the car out of the country without contacting them first and they are unavailable for a week do I still get to take the car out of country? No... ;)Back on topic now, kudos the the dev's for offering this as freeware. I agree with CoolP

In fact I have gone so far as to find freeware contributors on paypal via the email in their readme and send anywhere from $5-$50 as a sign of thanks and gratification for their time and it has always been very well recv'd...

Any word at the author's forums about our previous discussion on this rogue cloud layer at 6000?

That's essentially what I'm getting. I think it's a FEW clouds at 060 but it sorta shows up as another vis layer.

But if my end user agreement with Acura says I can not move the car out of the country without contacting them first and they are unavailable for a week do I still get to take the car out of country? No... ;)
I think that example shows some silly 'agreement' conditions rather nicely. But I see where the misconception arose. You 'end user agreement with Acura' is not be design enforceable and it is, most of all, no law you can break. So while such agreements may contain just repeated law enforceable parts (from, well, laws), they may also include simple wishes and even parts which violate customer rights. As a matter of fact, those documents don't get checked until at least one party complains and the document enters a lawsuit. Hence their sometimes fictional ingredients. As for the 'working car' aspect. You've paid for such a product and if they want to regulate certain things which violate customer rights, they have a legal problem, which, of course, has to be brought to attention first. Otherwise no authority (and a company is no authority) will ever look into it. So if you just accept and obey, so to speak, you are the one to blame for your fate.On your car example, well .. I think you've got that part which clearly isn't enforceable.Back to the software. The methods of activation are tolerated (so it isn't illegal to use them) but, for themselves, don't form up an enforceable aspect of given law. So if you just break an activation method on that game software you've just bought, you can't be sentenced. The part the law enforcement is looking at is the actual usage of the software and the fact if you have bought a license to use it or not. That 'is he worth buying the license check?' only runs at the time of payment. If your payment is accepted, you own that license and you are legally allowed to use that software. The part with the activation does not play any legal role here.Well, if a later activation system locks you out for whatever reason (keep in mind that the activation system itself may introduce software flaws and bugs and sometimes fails, as shown), you are not the one in charge. The company has to make sure that their legal customers can access and use their purchased goods. Same part as before, if they aren't able to do so, they have a legal problem, which, again, has to be brought to attention. Now the act of breaking the activation still isn't illegal. It would be if you are not in the possession of a license and therefore tried to circumvent the fact of buying one. That's illegal of course, but you didn't steal that car and software, did you? That's the differentiation I and some others were pointing out. The simple use of going around an activation does not render you a pirate or something. The pirate guys are the ones which never purchased a license while the customer locking at the 'you are locked out screen' has.So unless mods or other users can check if you are running 100% of software you've purchased licenses for, the simple use of buzz words shouldn't trigger harsh reactions. It sometimes does and if these are the forum rules, so may it be. One may accept them. However, those have nothing to do with an actual law in place and therefore an illegal character of some sort. The Presumption of innocence dictates more than just looking for words in this aspect.

Kudos for that. I did the same thing and I may do again if they continue to develop the software. He speaks about some new version or edition in the readme. But that sentence is there for a while now.

Can you attach a screenshot that shows that layer? Just asking because I think I can't relate a picture to it from using the soft so far. :(

I had been this. FSX refused to reactivate in several occasions. Desperate as I had been, I though about this methode (As I have a lot of stuff and FSX refused to activate and also reinstalls didn´t fix that.) but as I only found one for SP1 and had some scruple, I didn´t do that. Finally someone gave me the tip with trying to regsiter in safe mode and then it worked.Ok guys, that´s enough for that. Please back to topic now. :(

Best regards, Steffen

This happens all the time - the rouge layer at 6000 ft... Edit: Actually it's not 6000 ft - it's more like 8300 in this example. This is with metar CLR. In fact, why am I getting any clouds with CLR?060rouge.jpg
