Advise updating Nvidia driver from 290.53 to 295.73

Featured Replies

Anybody experienced the latest driver of Nvidia? Do you think it's good advice to update?A while ago I read that some of you prefer even the older versions of the driver, in combination with FSX.Would like to hear about your experiences!Got myself a GTX570.Greetings,Ype Reitsma

Feel free to try it & report back. Just be sure to have an installer for your current driver handy in case it doesn't work out.I'm a little curious how it works with 2d surround myself. I haven't found a good 2d surround driver since 275.33.

Just updated the driver. The updates I suppose are to minor to be noticed by an amateur. It's seems stable.

Hello Ype, I also have the Nvidia GTX570. I have tried several drivers with varying stability etc., but I have been using the 280.26 driver for a while now and it satisfies me ok. regards richard welsh.

Doesn't do much to FSX. Accelerates Skyrim tremendously (again) :-)

New drivers do basically nothing for FSX unless a new AA mode or something was added. Trust me, the video card companies aren't putting in optimizations for a 6 year old game...

Well, I updated from 285.62, and noticed my WEI dropped for my EVGA 560 TI SC from 7.9 to 6.6. I know it's not the most reliable measure of performance, but I also, perhaps coincidentally, find myself needing to reinstall FSX as it appears to be completely corrupted (i.e. completely jacked up scenery and planes). I did fly from KIND to KMCO in a PMDG 737 NGX with no problems earlier in the day after I upgraded. I also keep FSX on a separate HD, and don't have much crap on the system, defrag regularly, etc. That said, I also tweak various settings, and piddled around with Inspector, too, so it's just as, if not more likely, a problem other than the driver. However, I took out the card, deleted all traces of the new driver, reinstalled 285.62, and for whatever reason my WEI is back up to 7.9 (believe me, I re-ran and rebooted multiple times when I got the 6.6). I guess an anecdotal and unreliable word of caution, but I will refrain from updating again until there is a larger population sample with improved performance.Oh, and as for any noticable difference in frame rates, I didn't see any. Perhaps if I repeatedly tested the identical scene with both drivers I would find there is a difference, but when you see the release notes talking about massive FPS increases in games like Skyrim, you keep your fingers crossed that this will be the flight simmers Holy Grail of performance, but, alas, I fear not.

I've installed probably 20 or 30 driver sets since my last FSX reinstall - kinda doubt drivers did that to yours. Did you try rebuilding the FSX.cfg? Sometimes that can get messed up when the drivers are switched but even that is unlikely.

Actually if the fsx.cfg file did rebuild, and you have installed Bojote's Shader 3 mod, then your scenery and aircraft, will appear to be corrupt. That's because a new fsx.cfg file wil not contain the linesALLOW_SHADER_20=0ALLOW_SHADER_30=1To get it back, you don't need to reinstall FSX, just add these lines back to the Graphics section of the config file.

Thanks

Updated today...it reset my nvidia Inspector profile so tyring to fix it, I toned it down a bit, and I have seen marked improvement. It might be just me...oh well, and I thought the screen looked brighter too, then again it was after 10pm..
