March 4, 201214 yr Hello DillonIn the last interview with Joshua he said that involvement for 3PD was possibly three years away, if we do not support FSX in the meantimethere will not be many left to make use of an SDK.Three years of being drip fed MS default scenery and basic aircraft does not hold much attraction really no matter how smooth it runs.Thats my problem with flight, am so tempted to just try it as its free, however the thought of just flying around aimlessly in one small "bubble" really makes me not want to even download it as the is definetly not what i look for in a flight sim.I may just give it a whirl though, really got nothing to lose.P.S Can we even track a VOR or DME??? Are there multipe runways in the "bubble" or just one?? March 4, 201214 yr I'm actually impressed with Flight after purchasing the Hawaii pack. I've never bought FSX at all, BTW. It's a bit of a shame that MS is going in a different direction than we've come to expect, but as a "Flight Unlimited" style game, I think Flight succeeds. It's very immersive as a GA flying experience around gorgeous terrain, and it runs very well at medium/high settings on my modest E8500, GTX 260 system. I'll be using FS9 (and eventually FSX) for the forseeable future as my serious sim of choice, but I'll also be interested in Flight as a fun alternative. And my kids love it, too. John G.

March 4, 201214 yr Hopefully everyone will stay respectful and this topic won't go south! You guys are all friends here, most of you for a long time, so please, please make sure this thread does not go south. So far, so good! :(
March 4, 201214 yr You guys are all friends here, most of you for a long time, so please, please make sure this thread does not go south. So far, so good! :(Hello StephenIt will not go south if we are all able to accept each others opinion, but as in every thread about Flight! as soon as the allowed number of negative posts have been exceded a moderator appears, a clear sign that the thread is going to be closed soon..It is this bias towards MS Flight! that has sprung up that is making me consider asking for my account to be deleted after years of posting here. There is no way I can gain any pleasure in seeing a hobby that i have supported for so long take such a huge (performance aside) step backwards, losing so many features that have been built on over the years, truly sad. we may never see another fully global MS flight sim.I am almost certain that i will never see any representation of the UK or Europe in MSFlight! and so I naturally feel totally disenfranchised with the direction that the Community, Avsim and MSFlight is taking..Maybe it is the time to move on
March 4, 201214 yr If FS9 contained only Hawaii I'm sure it too would run smoothly!!!!!vololiberista Edited March 4, 201214 yr by vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
March 4, 201214 yr Commercial Member I think that's a little over the top mad dog. Fs9 and fsx will be around for a long while yet and the community is getting stronger IMHO.Flight is just another option, not what we all expected but at the very least it could turn into a great VFR sim.The way I see it, even if flight was the global sim we wanted and it had full dev support we would still have to wait 3/4 years before the first LVL-D addons were released. My focus is on all the great upcoming freeware and payware releases for fs9 & FSX over the next year or so, the community has a lot to look forward too.In the meantime let's see what FLIGHT has to offer in the next year or so. Regards Rob Prest
March 4, 201214 yr Just wundering how long it would be before a Flamer (Flight Gamer) showed up on the FSX and Fs2004 threads. I try to avoid Flight forum, because I have nouthing to add but that obviously is not a two way street! Be considerate if the Flamers could leave their toy game in the proper forum. March 4, 201214 yr Well i gave it a quick try, its definelty diffrent, Visuals are nice, performance was good. However, its definetly not for me, Maybe a few years from now it may be at the level of a flight experience that im into!!! Only if they decide to go that direction with it(eg: I like to fly a systems simulated 737 from cyyz klga) Will this ever be possible, im not sure but time will tell i guess. Its got such a long way to go for me personally. But its definetly not a bad game, just not something that im into. March 4, 201214 yr Be considerate if the Flamers could leave their toy game in the proper forum.HelloThat is exactly what stephen was alluding to when he spoke about threads going south. It is funny though to see Dillon called a flight gamer, one look at his post count and joining date should tell you that he is a long time FS9 supporter.
March 4, 201214 yr Guys this blew me away last night so I have to get as many of you to try this as possible. Since the base version of Flight is free, download it and let us know does it not run better than FS9 or your older hardware all the while looking better than FSX. You can turn all the gamey stuff off and just fly in a world that is on the level of Orbix and get better framerates than you get in FS9. I've never seen a release of FS able to accomplish something like this. We would've been doing good if a new system of the day of release ran FS9/FS2k2 good but two or three year old systems running a new version of Flight Simulator 'well' is unprecedented.I just want to see if this is not just me... Critisizem aside about Flight being a game because once you turn that hud crap off and set those flight models to 'realistic' (after the first two forced mission you have to accomplish) your going to be amazed. This is the base platform we've been waiting on, Microsoft just needs to finish this thing and include third party developers.FS9er's who can't even think about installing FSX need to try this, trust me... :(Glad you're having a blast! I'm envious :)FSX sure is a pain to get running, but sadly Flight isn't a replacement for me - even in Hawaii. Yes Flight gives good performance "out of the box", but there is noliving world and I guess that is one of the reasons it runs better. To me the living world is one of the single most important reasons for flying FSX. It's just a lot more immersive. On my computer Flight doesn't run smooth as silk and I've had a few blurries and stutters, so milage varies, probably depending on the computer and software combo one is running. But it does run better than FSX!As for the scenery I don't think it is even close to ORBX.What I like about the scenery:- Less popping of autogen.- Trees look nice.- Some of the "wilderness" ground textures are improved.- Lovely shorelines, although the sea foam is a bit over the top.- Nice and detailed airports.- Better roads and runway textures.- Cliffs/rock walls and steep hills doesn't look like stretched chewing gum anymore.- Much improved shadows - although it isn't as atmospheric as f.ex. Outerra. What I don't like about the scenery:- No AI or living world - feels post armageddon.- City textures are blurry and look awful from below 1500 feet.- City textures don't blend well with wilderness/rural textures. Straight lines in many places.- Rural textures are blurry - needs better resolution.- When you are on the ground it looks flat and blurry. No micromesh or vegetation apart from large trees. Where's the grass, weeds and flowers?- Ocean doesn't look like ocean - more like liquid blue plastic of some kind. I'm just testing the Outerra demo, and that ocean looks so much better, especially the waves.- Building textures are very drab. Got an overall greyness to them that makes them look very graphical and unrealistic.- Overall the colours are a bit drab and don't have the saturation and clarity of a tropical paradise. But I agree, try out Flight and make up your own mind about it and don't listen to the hype - positive or negative. March 4, 201214 yr I would add that I was as jaded as anyone when I heard what MS was proposing with Flight, but having risked my $19 for the Hawaii pack, I have to say it was money well spent. Flight adds some of the gameplay elements that have been lacking from flight simulation in general for some time now, and does it very well. The Stearman and RV-6 are very high-quality aircraft, and the ILS challenge for the latter is as immersive and white-knuckle as anything I've tried on a PC. This is definitely not a case of low-quality Abacus-style aircraft flying around a flat world. John G.

So far, so good! :(Nicely said!It would be nice if this Flight thread doesn't go south and a good valid discussion takes place instead. My own opinion on MS Flight:In its present form MS Flight is certainly not appealing to me - when we found out what it was actually going to be I was disappointed (still am a little bit). But as Dillon has said - as a base platform it has fantastic potential! Hopefully Microsoft will continue to develop it in the way we all hope. Even if they don't, we still have FS9, FSX and X-plane - so there is definitely no need to despair and start being abusive, like what so many have been doing on the AVSIM Flight forum.
