March 6, 201214 yr As I slowly become interested in more slow, VFR flying around the PNW and Caribbean, I started looking for another plane to add to my slow hangar, consisting of the A2A Cub. So I found the Flight1 BN-2 Islander, again...The Islander was going to be my first payware purchase, but the attractiveness of the IRIS 5$ christmas sale led me away...2.5 years later, and I'm back! I've read the Avsim review, but a reassuring word from fellow flight simmers is always helpful...Thanks!
March 6, 201214 yr One of my favorite planes to fly. It may not be the prettiest plane out there (textures etc.) but its one of the more fun to fly planes I have purchased.
March 6, 201214 yr HiOne of my all time favorite low and slow planes, flies fantastic, looks good, and is all around very fun :) Regards Audun Sjøen My sim screens
March 6, 201214 yr The islander is my favorite low and slow plane. It looks great, flies very nicely, and I think especially the sounds are of a very high quality. It's a very slow plane though, so if you'd like to go relatively fast, don't got for the islander.EDIT: I should also add, like Arthur below me, that the FPS I get from the Islander is very good. One of the best-performing planes on my setup! March 6, 201214 yr Its a great plane. Easy on frame rates and loads of fun. I would recommend also buying Fly Tampa's St. Maarten as it also give you St. Barts (TFFJ), which has a difficult and fun approach over a hill which is perfect for this aircraft. March 6, 201214 yr I always seem to default to the Islander if/when I want to look at scenery, land on a (very) short and/or rough strip (think Orbx PNW) and still haul a little load here and there. It's better than the A2A Cub IMHO because the Cub is just too slow and underpowered (tho realistic--I'm not really complaining) to go anywhere other than a Sunday drive. No!! Wait!! I love my Cub too!! Sigh, too many airplanes, not enough time. giggle. Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
March 6, 201214 yr It's my "default" twin too, Jackson: looks good, has the greatest-sounding engines. I use it just about every day, much of my flying is done totally IFR, using either the two ADF's and the one VOR, following a genuine aviation map, or feeding the KLN 90 gps with a flight plan from within its database (exported from FSBuild into F:Flight Simulator XISGFlightPlans, and then manually copied into the BN2FlightPlans folder). This works like clockwork. My only beef - and it's the same with all pax-carrying aircraft - it looks pretty bare without any passengers or cargo.Love the aircraft. :( Edited March 6, 201214 yr by Paul J i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
March 6, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the reassurement guys. Steve, I actually have the FlyTampa package, and that Winair scheme will be much used for RWY 10 approaches....and could someone point me to a good tutorial for the KLN 90 GPS? It would be much appreciated
March 6, 201214 yr If you have FSBuild, Jackson - it's a snap, as the author of FSBuild - Ernie Alston - is the creator of the KLN 90 that's used in the BN package, otherwise you have to create an FSX plan (with something) first, then select it in the '90, and there's no way to save this plan into the 90's database. Which makes it a pain. March 6, 201214 yr I would also agree that this is a great addon. Like Paul J said, the sounds are great and it's a perfect "low and slow" airplane. I do not know of any tutorials for the KLN 90A, per se, but the documents that are referenced in the Islander's documentation worked well enough for me to at least get started. The "Abbreviated Operation Manual" may be all that you need to get you going. AMD 7800X3D, RTX 4090, 42" LG C3 OLED 4K TV/Monitor
March 7, 201214 yr There is only one small thing I miss in BN-2 plane. There is a lack of stereo sounds. When I start left only (or right only) I can hear them in both speakers.Besides - very nice aeroplane. I use it pretty often. Bartłomiej Ender
March 7, 201214 yr Terrific must have aeroplane whose looks still stand up even though, in FSX terms, it's an old timer. The only gripe I have with it the GPS system. I reckon many real life pilots must have got lost trying to use it. :( I modded mine with something a little more user friendly. :( (Bring on the purists! :( ) The World is divided into two groups. March 7, 201214 yr What did you do to 'mod' it, Ron? Used something else? i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
March 7, 201214 yr Yes, just a panel.cfg edit pointing to a 430...or was it a 500? The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
