March 8, 201214 yr game engine looks pretty impressive. I downloaded the demo, they have a streaming data model. I'm wondering if this could work for a full fledge flight sim product. Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering

March 8, 201214 yr For some reason FS developers flat out state that the Outerra engine is not suitable for any detailed flight simulation.Bryan.
March 8, 201214 yr Commercial Member IMO it would be if the issues it has with certain vid cards were resolved.... March 8, 201214 yr I've played around with the demo for a week and it is an awesome graphical platform. Sadly it is a very long way from becoming a simulator, and the biggest FS developers like Aerosoft and ORBX have no plans to get involved. The future is here now, but it seems most people are content beating the old FSX-horse for a while longer. It is of course an economical question as well since Outerra is just in its infancy and is will be costly to make it into a simulator, but that is also its strength. This is a platform one can build upon brick by brick and get free from the chains of the aging Microsoft ESP platform. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
March 8, 201214 yr Never heard of it but the videos are impressive, sure beats the #### outa Flight! Jay
March 8, 201214 yr Commercial Member Just to be more specific, the video cards that Outerra has issues with are the OpenGL cards especially the ATI cards. March 8, 201214 yr It seems to of been in production for years and years. Quite impressive though some of it. Simon Roberts
March 8, 201214 yr Whats come to light recently is all game engines can be impressive "visually". Its the whole package/content that matters. ArDee
March 8, 201214 yr Commercial Member Here is my idea though of what would make a good team to turn Outerra into a full blown sim.Outerra themselves deal with the graphics engineOrbX: SceneryA2A: Physics engine/soundsPMDG or one of the other big fish with lotsa patience: Navigation databaseAny of the best of the modelling groups out there for the aircraft simulationsI guess more members would have to be added to the team....i dunno. just my thoughts on it. March 8, 201214 yr Author Its taken this long to build outerra because there are only two people developing it (part-time), hopefully with the alpha release and some funding, they can speed things up. Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
