GSX or the... Erm, other one

Mmm, like you CoolP, I have not had any problem whatsoever with this airport cache issue. Not even sure I would know how the problem would show itself!
Well, maybe I need to reorganize things, so please let me know in which directory you have your AFCADs, mesh files, Ultimate Terrain files etc. In other words, your .bgl files. Are they all in one directory, have you split ´m up?Addon-Scenery directory is one place and I am trying to rearrange that. And if you do not work on your FSX regularly you will not notice the regeneration proces often.Any help is welcome.Menno

Menno my friend. I haven't got a clue! I simply install FSX and progs onto it's own drive and keep FSX on a separate SSD.

Well, as I mentioned, I have also asked Umberto, but he couldn´t help me other than saying the 400+ traffic files were unusual. It is not that big a deal but in reply to your initial post, I just wanted to share my story so prospective buyers get a complete overview of experiences.Menno

I think one first has to test if the sheer amount really triggers the long waiting time for you. So maybe start a default FSX scenery setup (no addons of any kind activated) and see if that gives you a dramatic change in scanning speed. If so, you may look at your addon stuff and its structure. If not, something else may be the culprit.I don't have anything special there. So my stuff mainly resides in the Addon Scenery folder plus corresponding subfolders. UTX has chosen its default folders, which then is FSX rootSceneryUTX subfolders. The only special thing I do is that I'm running a limited amount of active scenery. So if I'm flying to the US, I don't have Australia enabled for example. However, the US scenery of mine plus freeware plus the entries from e. g. Orbx already add a ton to the active scenery.cfg and the GSX scanning time still stays at a few seconds max on a normal HDD.
Thanks for that CoolP, I must have missed it.
I hope you don't laugh, but I did too. So I can play smart now. :blush:I have a silly question for you GSX users. I would wish for the marshaller to come up either way, so without choosing the menu option first. Anyone else?Reason is that I have to pick the exact gate in that menu to get a marshaller just there. No I often just want to park (I confess!) and often don't want to look up the exact gate description showing up in front of me.You know, AES gives you that marshaller once you drive close to the parking spot. I would wish for GSX to do the same and only offer the menu for the follow me part.

I have my AFCAD overlays in the FSX root directory (in my case I:FSX) and the rest of my Airports both from AFX and ADE in I:FSXAdd on sceneryScenery and some self contained airports in the Add on Scenery root directory. Everything else is stock. Hope that helps.

I love GSX, but I too have some issues which have not been addressed. I have a combo of addon airports in my scenery. I wish that GSX would just let me come to a gate without all this adjusting and let the marshaller guide me in. For example I have a ton of BluePrint airports some work others don't. Today I flew to Honolulu with default scenery and GSX did not work as I taxied in. However if I let FSX position me at a heavy gate, GSX worked perfect. I always plan a flight with FlightAware and my Delta flight was suppose to park at gate 21 at PHNL, but GSX did not like this gate, so gate 27 was acceptable after I checked it after landing. What seems to be the case I have to check every airport prior to flying to see what gates are heavy so GSX will work. I think that is really poor and I hope that Umberto can find a work around.Bob

Anyone know if there are any conflicts with this program and Xpax?I am wondering specifically about how it would handle the terminal ramps, like in Xpax you set your parking brake and the ramp then automatically comes out , the exit door opens, and it connects then passengers start loading...

I totally agree Howard. I had AES a few months ago and uninstalled it as I couldn't stand all the European buses and equipment running around at LAX. Fortunately I only bought a few credits. Down in the AVSIM video section, Robert (gsm) produced an excellent video of how GSX works.Best regards,Jim
Totally get what your saying, but 'regionalization' is inevitable in both aviation and the FS world. Have you any idea how many US-based aspects we have to 'put up with' when flying over here in Europe in MSFS ?? But MSFS is US made, so we put up with them. AES is German made, so US customers should bear that in mind. Variation can be good, and there is a large world out there! :)

David.

I have just discovered one little irritation that if anyone knows how I can eradicate I'd be grateful. In some ways it's good but in other's it's not so... and that is the little chime that keeps reminding you that the catering and cleaning staff have finished and they require you to close the doors. This is fine but the darn chime keeps going off when I'm half way through setting up my CDU, then I have to ride my way backwards through the menu to close a couole of doors, A minute later it chimes again and asks me to do the same. Very irritating when I'm in the middle of setting up the CDU.

Maybe, as a workaround, leave the one CDU in your preflight state and use the second one (it's independent) to access the doors menu.

I like the idea that GSX supports all airports - that its advantage over AES. I admit that I haven't used it a lot since purchasing it so an update may have changed things but here are a couple things I don't like.It insists that you release parking brakes after pushback. I don't want to, I'm starting the engines at that point. All fo the requirements seem to be a little nagging - close this, open this... Somehow I managed to accomplish everything with AES without all of this extraneous instructionWhen updates are applied, it seems like it keeps adding ADE/AFCAD files for FSDT airports. I understand why it is doing this but I really want it to work with my ADE files. Mine are set they way I want them but I keep going in to my FSDT files finding new afcads. If they included approach data and correct parking codes at all their airports, this wouldn't be an issue. I'm only adjusting parking codes, adding GA/cargo spots (for traffic management) and adding approach data. AES doesn't have a problem with doing so, why should GSX?

Another option is to go in and lower the volume of the sound file. I have mine almost to nil for that very reason.I will say I still prefer AES where it is available and will still support it. To me much more seemless. My major issues are having to check AFCADS before a flight to be sure it will accept my aircraft. I like to use RW gates, but, if an AFCAD is undersized GSX won't let you get in there until you edit the AFCAD, not something to do once you arrived.I also used to trick FSX into leaving my arrival gate empty of AI by setting to radius to "1". GSX will then say your AC is too big as well. And although I do not use follw me a lot, you can not choose a gate the has AI in it either. Have to get there on your own, Close your eyes and make it go away with FSUIPC Traffic Zapper.I also do not like having only a rear luggage loader, though that is supposedly to be addressed.

If you want gates to be guaranteed to be empty do what I do: Just make up a false airline code for those gates and then set the same code in your aircraft config file in the Aircraft config parking codes line. That won't interfere with your ATC calls but will guarantee that the space is empty when you arrive. This also allows you to pick the best gate for your personal use (maybe a good view or easy pushback etc.). :(

I will give that a go - Thanks !
