Anyone seen the banner on the ORBX forums?

Am I the only one who thinks they're getting ahead of themselves? Maybe I'm the only one, but I quickly lose interest in Orbx scenery because there are so few medium and large airports in such high detail. Right now I can fly PAKT to.. nowhere with beautiful airport scenery. The default airports and small airport sceneries released just don't do it for me as I fly larger airplanes. I wish they would step back and do PDX, SEA, YVR, YYC, etc. before finishing up another half completed location.

To be honest (and many will disagree with me), I think it is more productive for these companies to take the approach of keeping development a secret. Lets face it, they operate on a limited budget and can't afford a publicity department, so any interaction online kind of takes away from the time they need to develop scenery/aircraft.I ask this question...if they went back to being transparent in these projects and it took them three to six months longer to develop, would you prefer that? or would you prefer them keeping it a secret so they can focus on these projects to get them to market sooner?
What we see here is the marketing strategy/"publicity department". In other words: don't be fooled, these guys are the publicity department, and they're damn good at it. Keeping interests high by announcing (or hinting) at secrets is a great way to stir enthusiasm. The NGX is definitely proof. With the strategy used to promote it (small bits of info at a time and "secret" features) we ended up crashing the servers from the rush of purchasers.

I'm kind of hoping/wishing/thinking it's California....Best regards,Jim

I don't think the Orbx method of scenery creation translates very well to large airports. So far they've only done two large international airports - YMML and YBBN - and both were slated (rightly or wrongly) for bringing even high end rigs to their knees in terms of FPS.Given the fact that the Orbx PNW KSEA area is already quite a drag on most setups, a highly detailed Orbx style KSEA scenery would cause just about everyones' computer to go into meltdown. And that's even before we introduce a complex aircraft addon like the NGX and real weather......

Their target market is general aviation and VFR flying.

This is why I would rather just have an anouncement when they go Beta on these projects. These hints can carry on for years sometimes. Frustrating for us and for them when they aren't able to see a project through in a timely matter and we know about it.

I personally think it will be something that has been kept under wraps for a while. The preview shots are up for the Canberra CityScape, so its not like there is any element of surprise there. And they already have a separate banner for W16. IMO, its either a whole new region, Great Britain, or either New England or the Southeast (both work for me), or as some others have said, something that has nothing to do with individual sceneries.

Along the lines of this potentially being related to PMDG, I wonder if this might be some kind of historical scenery to go along with the DC-6, or maybe Alaska scenery for all those craving flying cargo flights.

If it's to do with something around PMDG it well could be with there people flow. So something along the lines of GSX.Orbx said they would stop road maps etc, showing whats coming, this way you just all start speculating and hype'ing something and that's probable the point you fell for with this trap.

You could well be onto something there Dave. If you remember the kind of people flow they introduced at their larger airports, I am thinking specifically at Canberra, where it really seemed to work well, you could imagine how the NGX and peopleflow could be integrated to offer a superb airport services spectacle. If the two were completely integrated, so it was all timed alongside performing pre flight procedures and flows, without having to interact with a third party addon, that would be awesome!! Well now, this really is something we can speculate about :( EDIT: In fact the more I think about it the more I'd like to bet a dollar or two!

Well not that difficult gentleman it will be the UK in ORBX style ;-)
If their objective is to make money, then the UK release would be a smart, if not obvious, candidate as there has to be far more users in Europe that would buy it compared with say a Canberra cityscape, or even NZNI.

OK, given the link above, it's not likely to be seen in April I guess :-(

Cheers

Thanks M8,Well it's not going to be the UK for sure that will be the back end of year and if the part about PMDG is true then...when I was last aloud to look at there forums they where banging on about there super duper people flow to come in 2012.Any region is really not a "can not miss" is it?A perfect fit in with the 737ngx would be a big money maker for them and a perfect fit with a good use for there people flow. I just hope I've not given them a damm good idea. I should copy right it lol
