This topic is suspiciously the same as the topic started maybe a year ago.. where the person also said "best addon ive bought" and listed the exact same advantages :POr maybe its just that good
Must be awful being that suspicious...... Ok, I've no idea what your getting at, suffice to say that I am the OP of this post, and hadn't even heard of Ideal Flight a year ago! ...... and certainly never posted about it in the past.I am also not connected with the makers of this in any way ......... but I think everyone else already knew that .... :wink:Still, a conspiracy theory here and there can be fun ........... :(

Anyone have an issue with the demo taking you out of pause? I was on a KJFK-KLAX in NGX the other night, first time I used IF, paused over the mid-west, went to bed, woke up and my plane had run out of fuel and crashed in the sea off LA!I paused another flight and it did it again! Is it the nag screen coming up and taking it out of pause, perhaps? Do I need to buy it?!!jake

It's Flight Planner alone is amazing and can generate for example VFR flight plans that avoid controlled airspace, and other advanced features.- For Flight Plans, at the click of a button, you can add 'approach' waypoints, that basically give you GPS approaches for ANY airport in FSX.
Hi, can you please elaborate a bit on the flightplanner functionality? How does it relate to other similar softwares such as VRoute, PlanG or FS Build. Is it Navigraph updatable? Does it contain all intersections, etc?Does it show the created plan on Google Maps? Thanks,Alex

Not sure at all on that one mate, as to be honest (i) I never used the demo, I just bought the full product, and (ii) I've only used it with GA so far.

Thanks for the tip..will have a look. With the growing list of addons, it sure does add to the prep time. It's gotten to a point where I had to create a folder with all the addon program shortcuts and rename them in numerical startup order, just so I wouldn't forget anybody, and in the right order, lol!!

I haven't used those programs unfortunately, but what I can say is that there are many options that I've not seen in other flight planning software before, such as ;-IFR, to include approach waypoints (GPS fixes)IFR, to include nav end points (not used this yet, and unsure what it does)IFR, include TOC and TOD waypointsVFR, avoiding controlled airspaceetcetcAfter selecting a flight plan method such as above, you then have a further drop down list, with things such as:-AirwaysVOR to VORDirect to Destination etc...eg, more familiar with the FSX planner. The flight plans made in Ideal Flight are generated into standard FSX format by the program, because they are placed into the 'briefing'; that is loaded into the flight ready for use, and featured in full detail in the 'briefing' section of the kneepad. (The kneepad briefing contains so much useful info, from all frequencies, depart/arrive runways take from the ATIS, weather, times, route, alternates, etc, etc). With this, you will be flying your whole flight without needing to open the FSX map for ILS frequencies or other info.... it's all there on your FSX kneepad. You can even change the order that things are presented! The FPs certainly contain many custom elements such as the aforementioned TOCs and TODs. and the approach waypoints mentioned above (my favourite aspect of the whole program). So lets say you are flying into a small field that has no PROCs, Navaids or approach fixes at the field..... Ideal Flight will generate all required non-precision turns from your last waypoint in your plan and then use GPS waypoints to get you on the runway extension inbound course; right down to a final waypoint that is placed on the runway threshold, giving great GPS accuracy all the way down finals.I can't say whether it uses Navigraph. I think it uses the default FSX database, plus calculated custom way points, so probably not.I use Plan-G on a seperate (networked) laptop, and because Ideal Flight exports its FPs in standard FSX format, Plan-G is able to open and display them, on it's moving map .............. for me, it doesn't get any better than this!Cheers.

I love that I can tell it how long I want a flight to be and then it will give me a flight plan for approx that duration.
That's a phenomenal feature in and of itself! Does this possibly mean no more scanning thru flightaware ifr routes :)

I bought this purely for:-- Some random flight generation,- To have my ILS frequencies, depart/arrive rwy info etc, all in the FSX Kneepad- To save a little time 'preparing' and fly more!......but it offers so much more than this, as I'm still finding out. Eg.... You can drag and drop any existing FSX Flight Plans on top of the Ideal Flight desktop icon, and it will auto start and set it's self up ready to fly that plan, with correct fuel, weather set, FP loaded, etc, etc...It even has a splash screen with an image of a tower ATC on the background of the program, and you can drag and drop any bmp image into that and it replaces the default pic with the one of your choice. Nice little touch.Negative points: the interface could be a little slicker, and some of the more advanced features can be a little 'well hidden' within all the options. But that's usually the case. Oh and it doesn't really have a manual (not that I've found anyway), but it does have a pretty good help function.

Be nice if they had/create a video of the program in action with all features demonstrated. Demo version is a nice touch but these days placing a vid marketing the product would do so well to describe this product in action. Does anyone know if there is such a video?

... forget the video for now lol1/ run IF2/ choose location to start3/ choose plane4/ choose parameters for plane cruise alt and speed, climb rates - estimate the fuel range for the first flight5/ set your flight time say 1-3 hours.6/ press the next flight button7/ just fly the route it gave you - probably not been there8/ use the information in the briefing to help you get there9/ land, park the plane, check the fuel report at the end of the debrief - use the range calculation, put the value in the Flight Params.10/ next flight - much more accurate fuel11/ fly but tune your cruise speed, alt, climb rates, and range to "get into" the performnce of the aircraft12/ repeat ad-infinitum

Demo version is awesome you can do so much. I purchased yesterday since this is the thing that makes FSX enjoyable. I've set my favorite airports to orbx and ozx only and it generates mystery flights for me to explore. I've gone through the list and adjusted many planes runway distance for STOL and will be able to reach many strips now

Hi guys,For anyone interested in this add-on, just to let you know that the developer released a new version yesterday (Build [RP]), and the minimum visibility setting that I reported as not working earlier in this thread, now works! So, as per the recent discussions lately on other threads about being able to make a 'one-off' global setting that will limit visibility to a set maximum in FSX; Ideal Flight is now able to do this. :)

Gents

Can anyone comment on the compatibility of IF 10 with other programs such as Active Sky 2012, REX, or Radar Contact?

Thanks

Brent

Brent Beale

Yes I use it with Activesky.

I turn all the weather off in IF10 so that AS2012 can do it.

I'm on the current beta of AS.

I haven't tried the other addons though.
