I hate to say it but er...

...I've been using the mouse more and more as a controller... I've been working on my VOR skills a lot lately in the RV6A but even with the controller tweak, that plane is just too twitchy and I am getting RSI of constantly pulling and pushing on the joystick, even during clear sky weather... Swtiching to the mouse control is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO relaxing and comfortable...!!! I mainly use the joystick for take off and landing now...Makes me wonder btw if MS is going to fix stuff like this in the near future or if they are only working on new DLC. Somehow I don't like to use the mouse control at ALL, but I don't want to start hating my RV6A so... I am used to smooth flights in FSX and in MS Flight only the Icon gives me rather smooth flights, but it has no VOR gauges or anything like that. From what I have heard the Maule is just as twitchy and I don't want to spend money on another plane like that, really. Hopefully some new DLC will come available soon. After all, it's been a month since the release now...!

I've found that the trim increments aren't granular enough to trim out perfectly. Instead I've been fine tuning the power at cruise to compensate. In good weather of course.

I know its heresy, but Xbox joy-pads work awfully well for Flight!...............

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

What controller are you using? I found Flight twitchy as hell with my older Sidewinder Precision Pro, but it's much smoother with my new Logitech G940. Flight is still a little twitchy, but not nearly as bad.

I also adjust throttle and/or prop rpms to achieve level flight. I'm not sure if you're aware of this (it took me a while to get it), but pressing the keyboard's assigned keys for trim will result in 1 degree increments. [You can also use the mouse wheel to adjust the trim from the cockpit trim wheel, it also advances in 1 degree increments.]

I use an MS Precision pro.using the mouse or the keyboard would probably help, but it isn't an issue for me. I barely have to move the throttle to compensate.I think that sticks generally lack enough travel to avoid being twitchy. I wonder how well it runs with a yoke.I perceive the controls to be somewhere between a Skycatcher and a Skyhawk in terms of sensitivity.

Nooo say it isn't so - heresy I tell ya!

When mapped to a joystick button, they are coarse due to the repeat statements in the trim line in the standard.xml file. You can removed those statements, then each button press on the stick correlates to one degree increments on the trim, which is what you get when using a keyboard key for trim...If interested, you will fund a tutorial for this in the tutorial section of Avsim - under Flight early tutorials.Your joystick sensitivity and null zones can be adjusted in a similar fashion, by changing the default numbers that correlate to the joystick axis. How to do that is in that same section.I must say after adjusting the sensitivity and null zone to my liking, and removing the repeat statement from the trim up and down lines, mine is pretty smooth flying now with my Cougar stick...

I use an xbox 360 controller too (but use keyboard to trim, since the d-pad trims 5 degrees to the keyboards 1). I suppose it's to be expected, but it's far and away the best option I've found for Flight so far, although I almost feel guilty not using my Saitek X52 Flight Control System. It definitely isn't twitchy. As long as you're gentle with the controls, of course. I have all the DLC, and every plane handles great.

I totally agree. With the RV-6 my joystick is almost unusable because just the slightest movement, regardless of sensitivity setting or null zone makes the plane jerk up and down. I emailed the Flight team weeks ago about it and still haven't had a reply. It's not my joystick, it works fine in other sims. I will not use the mouse, there is nothing realistic about flying a plane with a mouse.

I found after many hours of flight that planes that I originally thought were twitchy got a lot easier to fly as I learned to use a lighter hand on the controls. The only remaining holdout is the Maule, and I've adjusted the control response in my CH Control Manager, flattening it by one click for all three axes, and it's a lot smoother, but a bit too flat now.Hook

It's not your joystick. The first bug report that I filed (on Jan 7th) was: Non-linear Response Curve"Controlling Flight with a joystick (I'm using Saitek X52 Flight Control System) feels linear and jerky, and it can be difficult to make small adjustments. Using a non-linear response curve would greatly improve this, with the initial movement away from center having a very small effect, which increases the further you push the joystick from center."A LOT of other beta testers agreed with me on this issue, yet (as far as I know) nothing has been done to implement a non-linear response curve.

That would make sense, thanks! Just hope they do implement that soonish. It's a real killer (for me).If you centre the view in on the control stick in the VC, and move the joystick forward or backward slightly, the stick in the VC sort of 'snaps' rather than moves smoothly from the centre. This is what's causing the jerking motion when initially moving the joystick. It's a little bit better if I remove the null zone completely, but still jerky. Hopefully the linear curves will fix this.

I had the same problems. It has become much better since I modified the sensitivity as indicated here :http://forum.avsim.n...ck-sensitivity/Also, it has been said before in this forum by a real world RV-6 pilot that this plane is effectively verylight on the controls (" I flew with thumb and two fingers") !Guy

I have used nothing but the mouse since day 1 ( Jan 5th ) Easy to adjust its sensitivity in windows control panel.Reached level 10 in the beta (same as level 20 in the release version) Gold in all 24 landing challenges. Now at level 20.....2,828,397 XP and gold again in all 24 landing challenges and 3 gold rush challenges.Nothing wrong with the mouse as a controller !Fred.

Nope nothing wrong with that at all, if that is what one chooses to use as a controller. I suspect even, and this is JUST a suspicion, that some of the more challenging challenges, like some of the harder gold rushes, are actually easier to accomplish using the mouse rather than a joystic.Myself, the hard core part of myself, could never use anything but my joystick, throttle, and rudder pedals. But that is just me and my choice.
