love that big tv. I've always wondered why many of you play fsx on a tv just because of the size ?

I thought that running it on a monitor is smoother.

Used for FS9 only! (It's actually 3 computers . . .)

Size it really brings you into the atmosphere of things a lot better and really blurs the illusion it being just a simulator. I used to have three 23inch monitors in Eyefinity (one being used now as a panel monitor now) but FSX like many other games and simulators are awful looking spread across three monitors because there is zero FOV control. The center always looks fine but each side monitor the picture is stretched out and disproportioned. I finally had enough of the novelty of 3 monitors and consolidated down to just one monitor.

 

Game play is smooth on mine and this is a monitor.. There really isn't a lot of difference in the LED/LCD range of TV's between a PC monitor and a "TV". Most, like mine have a option built into the menus to switch it over into "PC Mode" to use it as a monitor.

yeah I do also like just one big monitor. Ive looked up your monitor and it is one of the newest? Nice!

I think it has something to do with the Hertz of the tv for smooth performance. It's different than on monitors. Can't wait for a 27inch or more 120hz IPS screen.

Further progressing my Flight Sim focused setup today I built a second machine with spare hardware I had lying around. This was specifically built to drive PlanG / Web Browsing / Information Lookup / etc etc while flying. I was getting sick of using my tablet and laptop and had the means to `do it right'.. Was just a matter of getting the motivation.

 

So I took stowed away I7 875k (shame it's wasted for this), Mobo and 8GB of DDR3, H50, small 130gb drive and 8800 GT I had and threw it in some beat to death case I had in the attic and stashed it under a TV stand next to my main PC desk (which is actually an old antique drafting table). Then I can just slide the door closed and the PC is nicely hidden from view. Keyboard and mouse stowed away. I have two 5870's but figured a 5870 in here would have been an overkill for the purpose of this slave machine. The PC is driven from my main PC's keyboard and mouse using Multiplicity. If you never heard of Multiplicity before I will say this program pays itself off in no time. I registered this program... Must be six years ago now and it is easily the most invaluable application I've ever bought. There is also a free app that does the same thing called Synergy but I've had Multiplicity for so long now I don't use Synergy but I hear it is equally as good.

 

P.S. The radiator grill isn't as dusty as it seems camera just really exaggerated it. All the vents are clear.

 

Edit: Added a second fan to the radiator for push/pull configuration sucking air into the case and one more exhaust fan.. She's keeping good temps now at idle and regular use 31-35c with the door shut. Not bad for an inclosed PC (well the back is wide open where it's exhausting).. Ran some linpack tests to heat her up good for a bit and she still came back down. Will still monitor it closely. I have realtemp open on the desktop..

Here's the new Stormtrooper rig (as the guys at work have been calling it - can't see it myself )..Terrible iPhone pics, sorry..My trembling hands LOL

 

Been building it at work for about two weeks on and off..finally got FSX onto it a couple of days ago and think I cocked something up somewhere in my childlike glee, so stripped it all down yesterday morning, re-seated the RAM and CPU..did a bit more lap'ing of the heatsink and CPU and re-installed it all..Spent all last night testing overclocks and doing FSmark11 benches on a fresh FSX install on the new SSD..very interesting results as compared to 26/700K's at the same or similar speeds..Smoooooth

 

Very happy overall..It's all hooked up to a big Dell 2709W widescreen and a square Xerox XA7-19i which I haven't taken a photo of because who wants to see a photo of my monitor LOL

 

The case is a CoolerMaster CM 690II Advanced B&W edition. All in all a great case..loads of very cool features and not expensive imo. As you can see, there is only one stick of RAM in there. This was in the middle of a marathon Memtest86 session yesterday. How bored was I?

Computer cleaning day and decided to take a snap shot before I power her down and get started! Being my house is over 100 years old it is a dust generating machine and this is a monthly `choir' even with dust covers all 4 of the intake fans :)

 

Welp, my setup has hardly any flight hardware (a Saitek Cyborg 3D Rumble from about 2005, wouldn't replace it for the world, and somewhere in storage is a GoFlight rack with some of the first gen GoFlight modules - but I haven't seen that in about 4 years now). But the tower herself is a very pretty creature, so pics!

Her name is KOSMOS-64 (see the model on top, that will explain all; I name all my computers after robot girls) - an Antec 1100 case was one of like three or four cases large enough to take the motherboard, a Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD7 (obnoxious Gigabyte with their XL-ATX form factor...well, I needed the PCI slot for my aging sound card, and the 890FXA-UD7 fit the bill nicely). It is a great case, with plenty of room, and very good cable routing design. Speaking of which;

inside the case, with an Antec Kuhler H20 920 cooling the CPU - an overclocked Phenom II X6 1055t (running at 3.5GHz. I KNOW I can get at least 4GHz out of her with water, but due to the way AM3 processors work, the RAM is limiting it - faster RAM is on the cards in the near future). Side note: The Kuhler H20 920 is an excellent cooler, moving serious volumes of air over its radiators and cooling efficiently. If a little noisy. Note I haven't replaced the stock fans, but that's also on the cards.

Regarding fans: I am a sucker for blue. No red fans in here (and thank Antec for making the Kuhler's LED customisable)....just...lots of blue. Which looks stunning at night.

Not gonna lie, I love it.

System specs: in my sig. Don't ask about the 14Gb, it's a stupid story; :I She runs FSX anywhere between 20-30FPS, and that's with sliders up at mid-high to high, and, believe it or not, DX10 preview/bloom/ground shadows/aircraft self shade on. Bit of a dark horse, this system - its 2-year-old specs don't really faze it.
