June 16, 201114 yr Let me just say the scythe hard disk stabilizer I used to fit the mechanical drive into the 5.25" bay is easily the best $10 I've thrown at a computer. I hear nothing from the harddrive, not even the spin-up on startup! June 16, 201114 yr I'm finally at a stage in my build where I can show a somewhat decent picture of it, so here it is:
June 19, 201114 yr Nice setup Ivan - I'm curious about the hard drives in the vertical position... I thought that was not recommended especially when they are on. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 21, 201114 yr Here are pics of my first ever build.Decided to do a test outside of the case, just to make sure there were no parts DOA. Also it helped me figure out some cabling in advance.Office tear down, what a mess. The fruits of my labour, really pleased with the results. Now just need to load up FSX and addons, optimize and OC. June 21, 201114 yr Ah yes, another 650D owner! Isn't it a great case to work with?! Looks good Mark.Ivan, I will be interested to hear what you're temps are while running prime95. I'm at that fork in the road where either I'll go with an h100 or I'll go custom water. As cool as SB is and considering the next step is 22nm, I can't imagine anything more than the h100 being necessary unless I was going to put a hot GPU under water as well. June 21, 201114 yr @ Ivan: very nice and cleanI think I can hear the theme from 2001: a space odyssey.
June 21, 201114 yr Ah yes, another 650D owner! Isn't it a great case to work with?! Looks good Mark.Corey, I think I am an owner of the 650D because of your recommendation. Thanks for that!Mark. Mark CYYZ
June 21, 201114 yr Corey, I think I am an owner of the 650D because of your recommendation. Thanks for that!Mark.Nice setup. This cooler is the biggest I´ve ver seen. If this one doesn´t keep your CPU cool, no one ever will. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
June 26, 201114 yr Wow that's too tidy for me lol!If I had one less sata drive I could take out that bottom compartment... oh well... still it's an excellent case! I envy your Asus board...Also... I used a modular PSU in the past but never had this fancy of a case. If I would have thought a bit harder about the cabling I definitely could have gone with a non-modular PSU. Yours looks so clean in that config. Do you have any issue with the cables bowing the side panel out a little? I guess that's what I run into. Not a show stopper- the thing sits under my desk so no one can see it lol. In fact, when I take it out for Fall cleaning I'll try to re route some of my cable mess (at the top I have a tangle of randomness), and re route my GPU power cables... for some reason I was too lazy to do them haha!As promised: Corey Meeks FS2020 | AMD 7800X3D | ASUS ProArt 4080 Super | ASUS B650E-I Mini ITX | 2x32Gb DDR5-6000 CL32 | DELL 38" U3818DW (3840x1600) | FormD T1 | Thermalright AXP90-47 | Thermaltake Toughpower SFX 1000W
July 6, 201114 yr Finally bit the bullet and dumped my c2d machine for a sandybridge. Also finally left fs9 behind and moved to FSX as the lure of the PMDG NGX was proving too much for me! Have to say I'm not particularly blown away by the all round performance increase over an 8500 at 4.2, but it's certainly an improvement. Still got to decide whether to keep my GTX 280 for a while and then grab the Nvidia 600 series when it's released, or just go for a GTX 580 just now. Leaning towards the former I think as the 280 still blitzes just about everything despite being a few years old. Do fancy playing some dx11 stuff though..... i7 2600k @ 5.1Ghz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz, EVGA GTX 580 @ 950MHz, OCZ Vertex II 240GB, ASUS Xonar DG, Thermaltake Toughpower XT 875W PSU, Antec KÜHLER 620 W/C, Corsair 600T SE White My FS9 Screens - http://fs9screens.blogspot.com/ Callum Richardson

July 7, 201114 yr Corey,What are those squeeze-on power connectors that you are using? Where did you get them. That's a slick way of handling the power to the HDD's. looks like you took the cable cutters to your extra PSU cables. I've been thinking about doing that too. Great looking rig. I've been jonesin' for one of those Corsair cases. Joe Brown
July 7, 201114 yr Joe,I simply reallocated the ones that came on my Corsair TX650W. You can purchase them from FrozenCPU and probably several other places as well. For the lower sata devices, you need a pass through cap, and then an end cap for the last sata device on the line. Here's a link which should make that a little more clear: http://www.frozencpu...ctor.html#blankIf you do indeed take cable-cutters to any other PSU wires, just be SUPER careful to leave no wires exposed. No telling what a couple exposed wires would do if they managed to make contact with the case. The best way to do that is to find your set of miniature flat-head screwdrivers and completely disassemble the molex connector you want to leave installed. Use the screwdrivers to press in the tabs on the prongs, then push them out one at a time. Snip the extra wire right down to the metal prong and then reassemble the molex connector. You can see in the photo below that there was once two cables coming into each of the molex connector thingies.Anyway, I would encourage you to do it. It's super freeing and really helps to cut out some of the unnecessary clutter. It's really cool because you can get as creative as you like. Perhaps find some appropriate wire of a color you want to use and make the whole sata cable assembly modular - such that you can plug it into the PSU behind the mobo tray. Then it's really easy to create a new sata assembly in the event you upgrade your case or something else in the future. While the newer 5XX cards blow my GTS250 away, FSX is still enjoyable enough that I'm stubbornly waiting for Kepler.
