Would have been impressive if Flight was released some years ago.

Flight compared to / with FSX.

Yes, FSX with tons of add ons is super when flying B737 or whatever from A to B.

But, and but again. Nothing whatsoever I have seen, (yes, I am a hard core simmer, have the most) compares

to Flight at low level.

For the past 20 years, before reirement some years ago, I earned my living as a helicopter pilot.

Mainly powerline inspection, videos, aerial photos and other stuff at low level.

Flight did wake me up again, so detailed in bushflying, I love Flight, almost as IRL.

Two different fruits, "Flight is for the masses", as told somewhere.......

Orbx FTX regions blow Flight out of the water at low level IMHO.

And IMHO Orbx doesn't. I like to fly above bush area's, trees and all, and the Orbx groundtextures underneath forests are awful. Imho. I just can't stand those flat photographs of trees on the ground. I loved PNW but posted various times on their forum that I thought those textures sucked. Using flat photographs with autogen trees on them doesn't make sense. Flights uses 'real' groundtextures instead of 'treetextures'. The trees and also the shadows are far superior. Again imho.

But hey, it's all very subjective and it's nice that we can choose and use what we like!

Have you tried ORBX sceneries?

Agreed, IF you've got a few hundred dollars to spend on the software and a machine that can handle it... Some of us are fortunate enough that we do. But expecting everyone to be able to do that is unreasonable. Shutting out newcomers on the basis of cost is ultimately detrimental to the long term prospects of what we call a hobby - in whatever form we choose to take it in. It's interesting when you hear guys on the Flight chat lamenting the cost of the a/c. They don't realise where the prices could go IF we should be blessed with some of the types of high end FSX offerings. It would suit us, but drive them away.

So the knockers can sit there and post pics of how good their FSX look (which is always nice), and carry on about how Flight will never be that (pure speculation either way) and slap yourselves on the back about a job well done (it being easier to complain than contribute). Or... well, remember that your FSX wasn't that when it was eight weeks out of the box, and see where things are in a few years. Flight maybe a forgotten heap in the corner of the internet. It would be a pity if it were to end up that way. That might only leave X-Plane 38 Beta 2.

Wow, quite a response! You may have noticed however that I was simply replying (hence the quote) to "Gason" who stated that nothing looks as good as Flight at low level and that he had seen (again I quote) "everything". I simply stated that IMHO, FTX looks better than Flight at low level.

I was not referring to Flight being inferior to FSX in anyway. In fact in several areas it surpasses it. Unfortunately it has little interest for me as it stands so I have no desire at this point to offer either criticism or contribution. In fact with Mr Howard involved I think its clear than any 'contribution' pretty much falls on deaf ears....at least if it involves adding to the simulation aspect of Flight.

I would love to see FTX and other 3rd party addons appearing in Flight. I don't ever see this happening with the current direction, although I would loved to be proved wrong.

Anyway...I'm off to slap some backs on a job well done..........................

You aren't looking very hard then.

There are a few dozen pics on the Orbx website showing better than this. Take your pick!

I have a couple of their regions and sceneries. They are great and more detailed but the overall feel of depth, lightning, 3D appearance, and proportion is no match for Flight. And that is not Orbx's fault, you just can't do more than what FSX engine can handle.

Wow, quite a response!

Apologies Glenn, it wasn't supposed to be a particularly pointed response in your direction, although reading it again, it reads as such. I do agree that those sceneries are better than Flight - I have most of them. I just get so frustrated when I read the comparisons, when it's not really fair.

I think it is quite embarrassing

Embarrassing for FSX that is! It looks good not because of FSX and the work that went into making the scenery, but because of the aerial photo taken. The one who deserves the credit should be the person/company who took the pictures. When taken screenshots at high altitude like that with photoscenery, it is equivalent of cropping an image of a plane in FSX and overlaying it on a picture of the real world and claim it to be FSX.

Orbx FTX regions blow Flight out of the water at low level IMHO.

No way, IMHO. Yes, ORBX have done great things for FSX but good though their autogen and textures are, they don't give anywhere near the feeling of speed, scale and simply 'being there' that Flight does at low level. And this comes from someone who bought most of what ORBX offers and enjoyed the hell out of their products.

i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea

these "which is better" discussions are bumming me out. I can't believe anyone would look at either scenery and say "meh".

Personally my eye has a preference, which is reasonable to believe, but not enough to ###### about.

The problem with this screenshot is that although the scenery is detailed and have airplanes parked on the ramps that Flight does not have, everything looks like they are flat prop on a stage with a giant painted background. The lighting is also off since different objects seem to be lit with different lighting sources.

It looks cartoonish to me.

Is this the realism that people are raving about? Ugly clouds, cartoonish scenery, "photoreal" terrain... Seriously, default FSX looks better to me.

I've seen some videos featuring custom terrain that looked much better, but the screen shots in this thread just aren't working.
