Try Circle to land (for iOS) for $4.99. It has 137 airports covered in the UK.

I've been using SkyCharts on my iPhone for over a year now, and it's very handy. It only covers the U.S., but I'm sure there are more apps with worldwide coverage. Very handy!

I find my phones screen impossibly small to use it as an EFB. Maybe if I had a Galaxy note...

So far I use "second monitor", that is my laptops own screen. I use an external monitor connected to laptop as main screen.

But I think I will get a padphone from asus, should they make it a transformer.

I agree on how small things look on a smart phone. I'll eventually get an iPad.

http://aircharts.org/

It's a website started by some KZHU controllers on VATSIM (I think) that provides charts for airports across the US and other countries in Europe, etc.

thanks

And what's that?

Surely, if you install and fly the PMDG737NGX, you have figured out how to use Google by now ??

I do not know what is an air chart, neither what is google. That's why I'll take the aforementioned answer for it. Thank you for putting off-topic $%^&* once again in a thread where no one wanted it, hope your Friday afternoon is now much more worth.

Chart sources:

US Airports: http://www.aopa.org/airports/ (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association)

Cool thing about this site is that you can download all instrument charts for any airport in a single .pdf file, or separately in .zip format.

Europe: http://www.ead.eurocontrol.int/publicuser/public/pu/login.do (EAD EuroControl). Free registration required. IFR/VFR charts by country, each individually downloadable in .pdf format.

About the iPad for EFB: I tried using the iPhone for charts, but it was a struggle to deal with the small screen. I found myself constantly zooming in and zooming out, and finally gave up. Anyway, I now use the iPad for a couple of things:

I download, organize and store charts on my desktop rig, and use a free Dropbox account to make these available on the iPad. Whatever new or updated charts I add to the Dropbox folder on my desktop rig are immediately available on the iPad. While Dropbox offers a basic .pdf reader, I use the GoodReader app for iPad ($5.00), which interfaces really well with whatever is in your Dropbox folder. GoodReader is so good it should cost twice the price or more. If you want to skip Dropbox altogether, GoodReader also has an included sync'ing app that will keep the charts on your iPad identical to those on your desktop machine.

I also use a free LogMeIn account to display the FMC on the iPad. You need a dual monitor output video card and two monitors connected to it. Unlock and slide the FMC from the VC over to the second monitor, and the iPad will display whatever is on the 2nd monitor. I do all FMC programming using the touchscreen, and can still easily move back and forth between the FMC and whatever charts I need.

When I bought the iPad I didn't realize how useful it was gonna be for flying, but it has made it less of a hassle and a lot more fun.

Are you sure? I'm pretty positive it was started by Daniel Hawton, from vKZHU.

He may have been at ZHU before, but he started it after getting to ZJX. He was with ZDC just prior to that.

His partner on the project, Rahul, is ZME.

What about fsinn? My laptop is finally broke, so i wonder if it's possible to put fsinn on ipad and run FSX in fullscreen mode as well, as switching to charts if needed...

FSInn is older than the internet.

So, no. BUT...

VATSIM has something up their sleeves. A couple of months ago, they announced the new ATC client coming out this year, and I'm sure they will soon announce the new pilot client which was also promised.
