PMDG for X-plane 10?

Featured Replies

I'm completely new here and thinking about buying PMDG, would like to know if you have any plans for developing aircrafts for the new X plane 10

Welcome MB,

you would have to ask PMDG to get an valid answer on that. But yes, they announced to do a plane for XP10. But they will have to build it from ground-up so I wouldn't expect anything until late 2013.

If you are looking for a XP10 "hifi jet" you should visit the IXEG website. Looks like they will be able to finish their 737classic this year.

Best Regards

Flo B.

I think PMDG said that they will start with the 737NGX for X-Plane 10 (but I could be mistaken).

I think it was a more, we are looking into it...

Yea, they haven't announced which plane it will be yet, and likley won't for a while since things may change during the process. I woudnt expect to hear anything on this for a while.

I hear they have taken an xplane developer to join their team

With all of that said, we have been very well supported by Laminar Research. They have been gracious in providing us with copies of the release version of XPlane10 to work with- and as previously mentioned I am adding someone to the team who will be spearheading the process of porting one of our existing aircraft into Xplane10.

Let's hope they'll port their add-ons to X-Plane for GNU/Linux and Mac OS, and not only for Windows.

Thanks for all answers, I'm extremely new to x-plane as well, and I will wait flying it until after their big update they said will roll out within 2-3 weeks, the graphics and lighting are awesome, this will be the future platform! Still fly with old FSX today and I...Y 737NG... Hope PMDG will make the Boeing 737 series, the 800 is my favorite aircraft.

Also does anyone know if REX 2 will make anything for x-plane 10, does X plane have its own ATC, Traffic etc ?

No PMDG plane has been decided yet, but I like the idea.

One more thing, the x-plane seem incomplete, you can not make any planning, calculation of fuel, you can not start at the gate of choice, all the airports dosent exist, seems very incomplete, should it be like that or do I miss anything is it not suppose to target the hardcore simmers ?

New on X-plane veteran on FSX, my FSX in 23GB and its a complete simulator platform, with graphical, traffic addons and advanced planes such as PMDG and Ifly its really 100% only remark there is will be the performance.

When I bought X-plane I was expecting a full simulator platform with its mega 60GB of data, @ the very list as FSX only supporting dx10 and 11 and all I had to do was wait for PMDG or Ifly to release a bird, boy I was wrong. Well looks like We get stuck with FSX for another 10 years or until X-plane updates theyr platform.

@ctredvirus: I fly both sims, and I think you're understating the strengths of X-Plane. For me, it runs smoother than FSX. X-Plane has crashed only once for me, ever, in weeks of use; FSX crashes a couple times a day, more if I try to do recording from different views. Flight "feels" more real to me, or at least more enjoyable to me, in X-Plane. There are some complete airports in X-Plane, and many more available for free download. Likewise with scenery and aircraft, both freeware and payware. I've bought the Oahu and DC-3 addons for X-Plane; they're both great. You complain about gate starts, but X-Plane makes it much easier to pick a place to start, in general; easier to switch weather and time on the fly; easier to change most settings; easier to install addons. Yes, there are weaknesses too: ATC is a work in progress, and there aren't as many addons as with FSX, but I think your prediction about another 10 years of FSX may be unduly pessimistic.

One more thing, the x-plane seem incomplete, you can not make any planning, calculation of fuel, you can not start at the gate of choice, all the airports dosent exist, seems very incomplete, should it be like that or do I miss anything is it not suppose to target the hardcore simmers ?

MB. Some of your observations are correct, but the time to fix some of that will not be terribly long. We are making steps to get the airports populated relatively well via 'crowd sourcing' and we should see significant benefits of this towards the beginning of 2013, maybe sooner. X-Plane can easily target hardcore simmers and our IXEG 737 project will demonstrate this soon; however, x-plane....when compared to the flight sim market as a whole.... is an adolescent who has just taken on lots of responsibility now that the patriarch of flight simming (FSX) doesn't appear to last much longer....and as such, there is some rushing to catch up..and that is where we are now. I think you will find, with a bit of patience, that x-plane is a very capable product and will mature into a flight sim experience that moves beyond the abilities of FSX, providing modern technology and a smoother user experience. I find it fully understandable that many would want to wait until it's a bit more mature and for those I only say that we are working as fast as possible to get there.

Tom,

Thank you for taking the time to post here. Your posts have been very informative and helpful.

I am really enjoying X-plane 10. I see XPlane X as an incredible platform, still in its early stages but with enormous potential!

I can certainly see why some would choose to stay away from it for now, but right now, I am enjoying a front row seat watching the transformation X-plane has already made in a short time and will continue in down the road.

Hear hear! Not ignoring the 500 lb gorilla in the room, which is X-Plane's apparent incompleteness, but acknowledging that the only direction this platform has to go is up. I haven't had as much fun exploring a world via flight since my first tentative excursions in Flight Simulator 4.0. In a way, XPX reminds me of this generation's FS4-- a base flight simulator with tools available to populate it, and endless possibilities. I know I probably sound like a broken record on the following point, but I can't express it enough: Mountain flying in XPX is simply breathtaking.

Thanks all! basically that is what I meant I'm the kind of person whom will wait until the X-plane is fully mature, before switching from My FSX setup, The performance of X-plane is better than FSX, but You can't verdict until X-plane will be a complete platform, I can max out FSX with good performance without all the add-ons but with all 7 add-ons it will get some performance hit, still playable do.

As a hardcore simmer I do not understand the fun "yet" flying around on an incomplete platform that is not complete, i did that when I learned how to fly, once I did that I like to go "by the book".

Whenever I fly with the FSX and IFLY It takes me around 30-45min just to do the planning, which airport I want to start from, gate, time of day, starting the traffic, graphical add-ons, the destination airport, planning fuel and weights, vor, sid, stars, getting airport and runway course, freq etc.

After I will press the start button and with the plane shutdown at the gate it will take me another 30-40min, to go through procedures, checklists, input all data into FMC and autopilot, radio and navigation, then request taxi clearance, pushback, start engines, taxi to runway, take of etc

A released simulator "for me" is something that should be complete, I should be able to fly from anywhere in the world to the destination of my choise @ the very list. Adding to this I dont like doing it in a cesna anymore now that I got the hang of jets :)

I do not doubt that eventualy it will be a complete sim with or without any add-ons but I will wait until its fully mature!
