May 30, 201214 yr I'd love a PMDG quality 717 as well, but it was stated several years ago that they won't do one....perhaps another high quality developer (and there are several) will jump in. in 2006 I had the opportunity to fly a level-d simulator of the 717-200 at KLGB at Alteon Training. At the time, the last 717 was being assembled across the street. It's a cool airplane that's lacking representation in FSX & FS9! June 2, 201214 yr I voted no on this. I'd like to see PMDG finish up the T7 and 747v2 and after that i would love to have a PMDG 787! Chris Howard
June 11, 201213 yr the chinese are building an updated version of the classic dc9-40 A few years too late. It's just a reworked version of a decades old frame. Why not bring something new to the table that would blow the major manufacturers out of the water? Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"
June 11, 201213 yr hmm i think something is wrong here. The vote is about "Who wants a 717" and not "Who wants a 717 immediately after the 777, canceling all the other products that are already in the line including the wood pigeon)... I voted yes, because i would love to see a 717 but i know that a 717 would not be planned before the 777, 747² and dc6 are done. Tebin Ulrich
June 12, 201213 yr of course I'd buy it, but I'd rather have a 757-300 or an a320 perhaps Mitch Brown Private Pilot | Aerospace Engineering Major
June 13, 201213 yr Flew on a 717 for the first time last week. It was a neat little plane, perfect for Hawaiian's island hoping. Its not wonder it isn't too popular anymore, its basically an overgrown regional jet. It isn't popular because Boeing pushed their own 737. The 717 was supposed to be the MD95 until they got bought out. My guess is part of the purchase deal was Boeing would take over and continue the development and production. The problems was that the 717 competed a little too well the the 737. In the end, would you want to promote your own brainchild, or someone else's? The 71 is actually a pretty good aircraft. For starters, on a route from Honolulu to Hilo, the 717's burn about 3000lbs of fuel. Mesa's CRJ's; 3500lbs. An aircraft that is almost twice the size and can carry twice as much burns 15% less fuel. Keep in mind the pilot's at Hawaiian don't exactly understand the meaning of ECON speeds. My CFII instructor is an FO for Hawaiian. Depending on the Captain, the cruize speed is between 5kts below redline and redline. I've seen pictures of the PFD with the airspeed literally at MMO in cruize. You wonder why Hawaiian keeps winning #1 on time airline. It's also unbelievebly quiet. When I was learning to fly (before I could drive) I would walk past 8L at HNL and you could still carry on a phone conversation with the 717 screaming overhead on takeoff. I swear the Aztec I flew was noiser than that thing. It's also perfect for Hawaiian because the slat and gear speeds are so much higher than any other aircraft. Depending on the time of day (especially the last flight of the day), it helps when you're at 2000' on a 7 mile final at 300kts to just drop the gear to help slow down. In case you haven't noticed, we DO follow the 250 below 10,000'. I mean it's Mach 250 below 10,000 right? :P Ryan Gamurot
June 13, 201213 yr I just can't see a 717 being remotely popular enough to merit the full PMDG airliner "treatment", and I don't think it's something they'd tackle during one of their development 'troughs' as they did with the JS41. I know some folks point to a degree of flightdeck commonality with the MD-11, but PMDG clearly know their own market. I seem to recall Robert saying at the conference in Germany that MD-11 sales were miniscule in comparison to the 737, and that's an aircraft with what i would consider to have a much wider profile and appeal in terms of operators/routes, especially for us non US simmers. Don't get me wrong - if they released one I'd buy it, but I wouldn't see sales justifying the development effort and It being a commercial success for PMDG. Neil Burgess
June 13, 201213 yr No Thanks ! B747-200 for me - A quality version of this magnificent aircraft has been neglected in FSX for some strange reason. Glen
June 13, 201213 yr No Thanks ! B747-200 for me - A quality version of this magnificent aircraft has been neglected in FSX for some strange reason. i agree but somehow, i dont believe we will see one from PMDG Tebin Ulrich
June 13, 201213 yr I would much rather see a smaller plane. The market is so saturated with heavy aircraft. I would definitely buy a 717 if they made one but like Neil said, there just isn't enough of a market for it unfortunately. John Bauer
