July 19, 201213 yr My flying club has to replace our Remo 400 for towing gliders. We had to choose between the Carbon Cub and the Dynamics. The Dynamic is a great solution for towing. Unfortunately here in Portugal legislation doesn't allow for towing by ULM :-( Condorsoaring has a Dynamic among its fleet of tugs :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
July 19, 201213 yr Yes, I "get it" that many here have expressed their desire for a working GPS built in to at least some of the planes with an actual VC. My point was/is that the moving map is not totally useless. On that point we'll just have to differ. It doesn't provide true GPS functionality (or any GPS functionality, for that matter), other than a terrain tracking device. But in Alaska, having the moving map in the Icon and apparently in the Carbon Cub will be useful in helping fly through the valleys and around the mountains if you're not using GMap/PlanG or another flight planner. On that point as well. IMO, it only tells me what I already know about the surrounding terrain. It's not a substitute for a GPS unit of course, but helpful nonetheless. I will say this again though; if all it is ever going to be is a terrain tracking device it does need the ability to adjust/change the range added to it. Hopefully that will be added in a future update. With that I strongly agree. The ability to adjust the range would be a major improvement. There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.
July 19, 201213 yr OK EastCoastGuy, I'm confused. If the moving map is totally useless, how would adjusting the range be an improvement? You'll just see more useless terrain. I don't have a lot of use for the moving map in the Icon, but it was good enough to find a lot of aerocaches in Hawaii. If you add the detail to the view, and zoom way in, you can see some airports. I prefer using the top-down view, which you can zoom in, and has a maximum zoom out to show about 16 NM in front of the plane. And you CAN see airports in it if you zoom in sufficiently. I miss having a real GPS, mostly for the database access, but vfrmap.com gives me good sectionals and info on airports, including airport diagrams in many cases. And with GMap, who cares what Microsoft puts in the planes' cockpits? Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

July 19, 201213 yr They removed the cub from marketplace on the flight website ....... Yeah, just noticed that. Guess we're not getting it this week, or they wouldn't have removed it.
July 19, 201213 yr They removed the cub from marketplace on the flight website ....... Yeah, looks like someone jumped the gun on that one. Probably wasn't suppose to go up there until Monday or something.
July 19, 201213 yr Oh... crud. Dirty stocks. Spit. Well, at least I don't have to keep checking the marketplace. Nuts. :( Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

July 19, 201213 yr OK EastCoastGuy, I'm confused. If the moving map is totally useless, how would adjusting the range be an improvement?You'll just see more useless terrain. The terrain isn't useless. Having a map capable of seeing farther than 5 miles out might be useful though, especially if it has the smaller airfields on it. Finding the huge ones is easy enough already. There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.

July 20, 201213 yr I am afraid windows 8 is going to be a total disaster for Microsoft. that is their real worry now. Well its certainly fugly enough. Yes I know you can switch the theme. Still....... Outside of the supposed "benefits" of the off-putting UI, I found little to recommend it. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... July 20, 201213 yr I`m not particularly keen either. I think it looks like a great OS for tablets and phones but not for PC`s. Win7 is perfectly good . As far as the Cub is concerned, it`s not the first time this has happened with dlc. It makes me wonder if all they are doing is seeing how many people actually want it before releasing the full product.
