After you have unzipped into c:\OpusFSX please check your Configuration an Weather dialogs again. You will probably find you have not defined your FSX installation folder. You will have to do that anyway after re-installing 2.24 because the software is not forward compatible and you will have corrupted your OpusFSX configuration file.

All the beta was prompting you to do was check your configuration.

Thank you. And using P3D.

BTW why is it my track IR seems repositioned even though I have set the view in the camera editor. In this case my captains seat which i had set perfectly, but everytime i come back to it its like im sitting behind the seat which of course blocks the view or is very far away. I then have to press reset button for trackir to reposition correctly.

I'm sorry i missed them. Will test as advised, once this is sorted out, it's perfect to me. Great job!

Hi Nuno

I notice your system only has 8Gb of memory, since most people are no longer experiencing wind shifts (we have not witnessed any winds shifts at all for many months now, even before the upper wind smoothing). I have had a few ideas I would like to try out. Would you be willing to assist, all it means is probably trying out a couple of betas with all the default weather settings. Hopefully, there will be a noticeable difference and in a few weeks when I release the weather smoothing option your system should behave itself even with the limited memory.

The TIR data is just superimposed (added) with the camera view data, the camera view's eye position providing the reference point. I don't think it is possible to perform the F12 action via the NP SDK, so for now its best if you just press F12.

Ok here is the summary with Opus 228 Beta.

the METAR at ENRY called 13005KT 070V160. On final I had 184/6kt, then it changed to 178/5kt right after I landed. Much better than before - and besides it did report variable wind in the METAR.

However, I am a bit lost as to wether I have the settings right. I am flying the NGX.

Updates:

5 Minutes or 30 KM

Wind Stabilisation and Smoothing:

Transition altitude: 60000 ft

Recovery alt: 10000 ft

Max wind change: 180 degrees

I have checked Relax surface wind smoothing with max speed change 30 knots pr 32 km, max direction change 15 degrees pr 32 km

I could really use some tips when it comes to these settings

Thanks

PS. The weather at Rygge was awful by the way.. .

Are you looking at the METAR within the OpusWeather.txt file, it is this METAR that is being used by the LWE. It is also possible that there was more than one METAR available for your weather cell, in which case the METARs would have been averaged.

With the TA set to 60000 the wind stabilisation is disabled so the other associated settings don't really matter. Your other settings seem OK, you are obviously updating the weather more frequently than is usual but that is all down to personal preference. After we introduce weather smoothing though I would recommend using something like 30 mins and 60km. The relaxed wind smoothing settings should keep up with virtually all METAR variations, if you wanted to follow the METARs unconditionally then setting 180 degrees would do the trick but I personally like setting 15 and 15 because the only times when the wind shows greater variation is when it is calm or just a zephyr, so the direction isn't really important.

Just check the weather against the NOAA or better still the OpusWeather.txt METARs (which are the ones downloaded from NOAA and being used with the LWE). Also bear in mind the averaging when there are more than one METAR in a weather cell, and finally of course the METAR updates are automatically disabled for 10 mins when you descend below 2000 feet (might be 1800 feet) to prevent weather updates during final approach.

Hello. I don't mind helping out, i can make a few flights to test it. But... limited memory? I have a hardware monitor on my PC and it rarely goes over 4.5GB usage when in intense scenery and with everything else thrown at it. Using 12 or 16GB would just make more free RAM available which isn't used? Right now i'm flying over EGLL with a 767 at FL390 and system has 3.7GB used.

Nuno

PS: The QNH shifts happen on updates, so every 30 minutes as i have set. QNH goes down (plane climbs) then back up to 1013 and plane recovers.

Hi Nuno

We only set the QNH which is dependent entirely on the METARs and smoothed to allow a maximum 1mb change over a 10 mile area. I have found increased performance and smoothness with more memory especially with Win 7 64-bit. We have 12Gb on our laptops and 24Gb on our dev PC but recommend minimum 12Gb Win 7 64-bit to users. You must be careful interpreting the performance and hardware monitor results they usually don't tell the full story. 8Gb on a Win 7 64-bit system is towards the lower limit and not what I would call ample. All I can say is that your PC has an excellent spec but the memory seems a bit on the low side for modern day 64-bit systems. As I said we have not seen any wind shifts or erratic pressure changes for many many months now, I have a suspicion this is all to do with the large volume of weather data not overloading the available resources. Just a thought and suggestion along with using HIGHMEMFIX=1 and other fsx.cfg tweaks of course.

Getting back to upgrade plans, we are working towards the Weather Smoothing upgrade in a few weeks time. This upgrade will prevent all sudden changes in weather/cloud patterns based on new METAR updates. This upgrade will also allow us to reduce the physical size of the dynamic weather region (not the internal weather map which will remain the same size). I am hoping the reduced size of the weather region, which still extends beyond the user's current weather horizon, will allow all systems to retain the strict wind targets with FSX and hence put an end to the wind shifts on the few systems that are still afflicted.

I could be talking out of my hat here, but i have read many articles telling me that on high end systems, installing large amounts of system RAM (OVER 8G.) can create unstable overclocks and heat problems for the CPU.

Any truth to this? I would be interested in opinions on this.

Edit: Sorry if this is a bit off topic for this Forum, but i feel it is related to the last few posts in this thread.

I am not an expert in overclocking, I don't actually overclock and wouldn't consider doing so without taking adequate precautions against overheating. I believe you must also consider the balance of the system as a whole and I prefer stability rather than raw cpu power. It is also very difficult to say for sure if there are any real tangible benefits having 12Gb over 8Gb. We got the impression there was as Win 7 64-bit has more memory available to dynamically allocate for its own use and for Addons. I suppose you would have to sit two identical systems side by side and check. Best wait a few weeks until we release the Weather Smoothing upgrade, its operation should have a beneficial effect on FSX in other ares as well, requiring FSX to accommodate smaller amounts of weather data at any one time. But too early to say anything for certain at present.

I can get 16GB no problem, i just think it's not going to do anything for my system, but i'll try since i can test prior to buying ^_^ I am using the proven FSX tweaks, no pools, HIGHMEMFIX and a few others, i seem to have found my sweet 40fps-or-more-almost-everywhere spot. The 4.7GHz helped too. I was an overclocker a few years back, still haven't lost all of the addiction haha

I am still testing, but i seem to have completely eliminated the QNH spikes (or what seemed to be that) with the "try a TA of 19,000 ft and an RA of 17,000" setting. If not, i can hold for a while for the weather smoothing upgrade, as this isn't really a show stopper.

Thank you,

Nuno

Hi Nuno

Stick with the 19000 and 17000 settings and adjust the max recovery wind change to suit. With a bit of luck the changes planned for Weather Smoothing will allow you to get rid of the stabilised winds altogether. I may post a special beta some time for you and few others to try. I will keep you posted.

Good luck with your settings, very glad to hear you have had some success.

I don't want to hijack this thread, so i will just say thanks Stephen, for your input and just wait for your Weather Smoothing Upgrade as i have this monster called a NH-D14 sitting over one of my empty RAM slots and i'm not in any hurry to re-seat that thing.

Further to Live Camera.... I am trying really hard to get used to live camera but im frustrated with it. Im trying to set up all my views for different aircraft but it never saves specific aircraft. I go through all the views , set the position I want and be sure I have chosen the aircraft types of interest and to camera view to my MD11 as an example. assign a keyboard key, and click save all cameras. It reverts back to all aircraft types for both options.

It would be nice if someone on here who has had success with the camera views would put up a video. I think there is alot of potential with it. And further feedback to the live camera it would be nice to position the view with the mouse. its very quick and precise. Probably a no no in here to mention it, but EZCA does exactly that.

Postion the view in edit mode with the mouse moving it around to how you like it and press the 2 key to exit edit mode. Then its saved and for that aircraft.

Maybe im doing something wrong but just following the manual.

Also want to commend the developer on the continuing development and also for the support. Its very nice to have support like that after you have bought a product. Keep up the great work Stephen and Cheryl!

Hi Dave

I am busy preparing a step by step guide for you, I will post it here when done and get Cheryl to tidy it up and place it prominently within the LC manual. For now just select All Aircraft Types for the Aircraft of Interest option. This just restricts the camera views you can see while editing. The guide will take you through creating your first virtual cockpit default camera view and you can go on from there.

All camera views are saved in the FSXSERVER.CAM file so if you want to start again just delete or rename this file before running the FSXSERVER program.

Stephen
