As per the Camera step by step guide.... It was informative, and for the most part I had done those things. Couple of the explanations I didnt know about and the difference between aircraft types and aircraft view assignments.

A couple things as a heads up to those new with it, When you select to assign your aircraft to the view you want, be sure to unselect "All Aircraft". Just going directly to pick another aircraft does not unselct ALL Aircraft and when you press OK All Aircraft remains rather than the aircraft you want specifically. This I couldnt figure out for a while when I selected the NGX it would still be All aircraft under assignment. Either that or you do it 3-4 x and it will finally save the NGX or aircraft of your choice.

Also external views.... It will only work saving for an "Opus custom external view" only. Any other view modes will not save. Like the flyby , tower view , locked view.

Windowed modes still confuse me. For one, any windowed views I did save all pop up when you load the aircraft. In my case I had 10 windowed views pop up and i had to close each one manually. The keyboard assignment doesnt open and close them like the cockpit views.

At least for the most part, I have my views more under control and assigned to their particular aircraft so thank you.

Hi Dave

Firstly, when you open the 'Assign Aircraft Types...' list box the selection process uses all the standard Windows methods. Click on an entry to select it - the selected line will turn blue; hold down the CTRL key to add/remove single line selections; hold down the Shift key to select a group of items etc.

You can select multiple entries and it is up to you to select the appropriate aircraft type descriptions, either the 'All Aircraft' top line or the appropriate group of aircraft type names.

If you just click on a single line entry it will deselect all other entries (Windows does this automatically), well it does on all our Win 7 systems. Have you got you CTRL key pressed down?

Each entry you select will turn the selected line blue, so it should be very clear what your current selection is. Just highlight the entry or entries using your mouse in conjunction with the CTRL and Shift keys and click on OK. You can also just double-click on a single line to select that option.

As far as external views are concerned you can only create, edit and control VC, 2D, and our Custom External Aircraft views. It is impossible to control the other view types you mention - there simply are no facilities within FSX that gives us the 6DOF control over those views. So I am afraid it is absolutely impossible to edit them as you do the cockpit or Custom External Aircraft views.

Windowed Views are complex, that is because they too cannot be controlled. The software cannot even dock or undock them. You must read the manual very carefully to understand how Windowed Views work within FSX and hence, understand how you can use Live Camera to assist you in creating them.

Yes, they will pop up when you select the aircraft, that is how they work within FSX. Again it is all described in the manual but you may need to read through it a few times before understanding Windowed Views.

I'm afraid if 10 windows popped up then you had created 10 Windowed Views - best delete them before things get out of hand. I think it best you re-read the manual and get a better understanding of what Windowed Views are and what there limitations are within FSX before trying to use them. You will then realise why the LC software works as it does - it has no other choice; without it your only other choice is to set them up manually by creating your own CameraDefinitions within the camera.cfg files.

We are preparing a new manual but please appreciate camera control is not a straight forward affair within FSX so in certain cases it is not possible for the software to do everything for you. It just provides tools to assist you in creating your views, restricted of course to the standard VC and 2D view types and our custom External Aircraft view (other views such as Tower, Fly By etc. not being controllable through the SimConnect interface).

Hope that helps in clarifying things.

Stephen

You can use the standard FSX mouse look and pan with the hat switch which both work very well. We are also going to add (at users request) a LC option to 'Enable Panning Control Keys', this option will use the arrow keys and two others to pan the view around the cockpit, of course these keys will have to be removed from the standard FSX key assignments if you choose to enable this option.

Hi reverent

Make sure your internet connection is working. Ensure you have unchecked 'METAR File Import' in the Weather dialog. If you open the spy window and force a weather update via the FSX addon menu (or click on OK in the Weather dialog) then you should see the weather being generated, do you see a list of METARs in the spy window?

Are you in an area with very few METARs since we did have a problem which has been corrected in beta 2.27.0 onwards. Try a more populated location or upgrade to the latest beta (just download the ZIP file).

Hi Stephen

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I'm very well aware how to make individual and group selections in windows. Been a technician for 25 years. What I'm saying is when I made my selection to assign an aircraft and I had highlighted md11 and md11f (in my case) and pressed OK it would not save it. It would still be assigned "all aircraft". Tried 3 or 4 times then it would work. I finally saw that just because I have an md11 highlighted it did not automatically unselect "all aircraft". Just saying that people may have to make sure that "all aircraft" is unselected first because it won't remove itself just because you selected another highlighted item as would be typical windows behavior.

Perhaps its a bug or perhaps its specific to me.

Mine works OK, it automatically deselects all lines when I select any other single line.

Have you selected All Aircraft Types in the Select Aircraft Types of Interest field?

Thank you, Cheryl and Stephen.

All weather is depicted accurately with our LWE, true winds aloft will be available very soon along with using the historic NOAA 24 hour cycle data, with other options added at a later date. If you wish you can prepare your own METAR import file and load this manually but you would have to continue doing this periodically during the flight.

I am definitely a purchaser once you have completed the RW wind/temps aloft generation. To clarify: what I mean by editing a METAR file, within ASE and AS2012, I can select a given station and modify its METAR file and select a range around it that the modified weather will then apply. Once that is done I can continue to use the RW METARS for all other portions of my flight. Usually the only station METARS that I tweak are the departure and/or destination. The rest I leave alone and the FSX depiction is then only altered for the proximity of that tweaked station. Do you offer that flexibility in OPUS?

Firstly, the OpusFSX LWE generates real world very detailed weather and I must warn you I think your system may not cope very well with only 4Gb of memory.

I currently have VISTA 64 SP1 on my "limited" system. I am able to keep all sliders to the right (water at #1, however) and still get 15-20 fps with NGX VC with full UT2 traffic and AS2012 weather except in the busiest airports on takeoff/landing but still always smooth (by setting AS2012 updates limited to only above 12,500 MSL). The updates during cruise do briefly stutter the frame rates, however. On all other complex add-ons, I have no problems averaging 30+ fps. So, what minimum upgrade would you suggest/require to use strictly the weather engine part of OPUS?

Hi Craig

We do provide a METAR file import facility, but not a METAR replacement facility. In other words, the weather is either imported or is real. Very soon will have an option to support historic RW METAR data as well.

Our weather updates are virtually instant and will be even quicker and less memory demanding soon once we release the excellent weather smoothing option. Also OpusFSX is designed to have virtually no impact on your systems performance, no matter what that performance is. 30+ FPS seems pretty good to me, are you currently using HD sky and cloud textures? We recommend either the freeware HDEv2 or the payware FEX textures, the OpusFSX LWE will do the rest.

I often get told off by the better half for telling everyone to upgrade their hardware, you don't have to since OpusFSX has very little impact on systems (< 1 FPS) provided you have a multi core processor. But I would recommend at least 8Gb memory with all 64-bit Windows .. Trying not to get into trouble again ... But memory is fairly cheap now. It will give FSX its full 4Gb memory to play with leaving another 4Gb for the op sys and Addons.

If you are mostly interested in weather then no problem at all, no matter what, and even less trouble and demand on your system soon after we release the weather smoothing.

If you've tried the demo then that's pretty much worse case ... Note you can upgrade the demo with the latest beta zip file !

Hope that helps ..

Yes.

Its not a big deal, just wondered if anyone had that , and if so that is why the selection doesnt save. I just have to manually unselect all aircraft each time I assign an aircraft. Maybe its my machine, but the behavior doesnt do it in windows explorer.

Wow! I am excited, Stephen. Like so many of the other posters on this thread, I have been totally frustrated by the weather anomalies of FSX as well as payware products offered to date. I am a little disappointed that I can not tweak a destination METAR with OPUS, however. I enjoy landing and departing in severe weather and I try to always make the weather much worse, particularly at my destination, than it is in reality. It is great practice particularly with random failures activated. I am awaiting your completion of the winds-aloft portion. Keep up the great and exciting work!

You will have plenty of company, there are quite a number of simmers that storm chase, even in the NGX. They just look for the worst weather then fly there, you don't need true winds aloft to enjoy doing that. There is even a topic on our Flight1 forum 'Give opus some work to do' listing a site to find just about whatever bad weather you want.

A question Stephen, maybe already answered but when I fly on Vatsim will the wind on the ground match Vatsim ? In other words if KSLC is landing south will the Opus winds agree?

Just an interesting feedback on the TAT dilemma ....

Im at FL260 and my NGX struggling to climb. TAT is +26! UGH. But for some reason I found a temporary fix. Just keep loading dynamic weather until you get a better temperature. Had to do it 4x and finally the temperature dropped to +8. Weird.

Tried this on two different flights and two different aircraft. Both times alleviated the problem. For now.

Vatsim weather will be an option soon in a upcoming update.

Any benefit using vatsim weather vs real world weather? Isn't the opus weather more accurate?
